what does this look like to you???
 

yesterday, my 6 year old daughter came home from 2 weeks at her fathers and she had a bug bite on her leg that was bothering her. Last night at bed, she was saying it was itching. to me, it looked like a mosquito bite that she had been itching. so i put some campho phinique on it and she went to bed. well, this evening, i am looking at it and it has a sort of rash/ring around it. def. does not look normal. the bite itself has a spot in the middle of it that feels like a scab but it isn't a scab. and this rash/ring is there without her even scratching at it. it is a little puffy feeling...meaning that you can feel where it starts and where it ends.

any idea what this might be? i'm thinking tick bite (her dad lives in the boonies). we are heading to the dr. first thing in the morning but i dont think i will sleep tonight wondering what it is.

Whatever it is.. looks like a bite of some kind.. it is infected? Are you going to wait till morning? just me.. ( I take my boys to the hospital for anything!!) it looks pretty infected. Best wishes.. hopefully nothing serious

I think it looks like she had a reaction to a spider bite, but I'm not sure. I think I'd get her looked at. Wish I knew for sure, sorry.

if it was me i would be going to the hospital. reactions to insect bites/stings can be dangerous!

Did she get stung maybe? or maybe spider bite? poor little thing, glad your taking her to get checked, looks a bit swollen and pain ful, keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers, please keep us posted.

I HAD THE SAME THING IN JUNIOR HIGH!!!! Cept mines was about an inch bigger.. mine was HUGE! And it took like 2 weeks to heal... I think its a spider bite because when it was almost healed.. you could see bites of twos.. like 6-7 in pairs all around.. (you can only see it when its almost completely healed).. i dont know what kind of medicine/cream to use.. my mom just used whatever we had and smeared it all over my arm everyday :p

poor girl... hope it heals faster than mine did!

I am glad you are taking her to your personal physician first thing tomorrow, sometimes the ER does not pay attention to these things. And you can be there all night waiting to get seen.

I am thinking it is a spider bite as well, but I hope it is something more benign.

You should give her some benadryl. It does look like a reaction to some kind of bite.:animal-pa

OMGosh...that looks terrible! I hope it's not a brown recluse bite. I bet is is some kind of spider bite though. My son got spider bites on his thigh once and it was red like that and then there were 1" red marks going upwards from the bites, which meant it was going into his lymph nodes. He ended up in the hospital. I bet the doctor will be giving you antibiotics for that. Keep us updated. Maddie and Libby send kisses!

Nothing like us all freaking you out when you are probably worried enough..... I took my son to the hospital once because he had hives!!!! I never had seen them before. We got to the hospital, I could even find them.... the hives were moving!!! They were on his chest.... they went away to his legs!!! YES I am one of THOSE mothers!!! LOL!!

I say it looks like a spider bite too :(

Id definetly go to the hospital for a check if I were you...better to be safe than sorry..

I'm an LPN and I would have to agree. Of course I don't know for sure what it is not being a doctor but spider bites need to be taken very seriously. Some spiders (brown recluse for sure) carry MRSA Methycillin Resistant Staph Aurea. I have a friend who was bitten by a brown recluse that was hiding in her motorcycle helmet and it was a horrible ordeal. Her area looked more like a pimple and it grew a large whitehead that eventually popped itself. The drainage was green. I'm sure she's fine but a visit to the doctor is best.

My son got bitten by my ex's new puppy last summer...its was a TINY little nibble really on the edge of his finger nail...about 3 weeks passed and everything seemed fine, the bite was totally forgotten about...

Three weeks later my son got to the point where he couldnt move his arm...I thought it was because he had taken up tennis and strained a muscle..told him it would be better in a few days...

In a few days it was to the point where he had no range of motion in his arm at ALL...we went to the hospital where they checked his lympnodes under his arm pit and they were the size of golfballs...they told me to see my family doctor asap and sent me home...

We instead went to a different hospital and they ran bloodwork and tests for hours on end and found he had a SEVERE staph infection...he almost lost his finger!! The doctor said ANYTIME you get bitten by any animal go to the hospital...it wasnt that the puppy didnt have shots its because all animals carry lots of bacteria...which can lead to severe infections...we were at the hospital the other day when my hubby got bit by our cat...he got antibiotics right away...

Im am not trying to scare you...just inform you...dont let it go too long...Id try to get into see a doctor tonight..

It might be a spider bite, but it also looks like the classic bulls eye rash that one gets from a tick carrying lyme disease-whatever it is she definelty needs antibioitcs.

Sometimes tick bites get a ring around it like a target. This can be an indication of Lyme disease! Sure hope that's not what it is!!

My neice just had the same thing but from a kitten.

thats what i said a staph infection i have had one. dont let it get too bad it will start getting puss bubbles in it and they will have to pop it. mine got so bad that they tried to give me a shot of numbing medicine but it was too infected so she cut me with a razor and i felt every bit of it. and then squeezed every puss bubble inside of it.

or infected hair folicle my sis had one of those and it kind of looks like that

My first thought when I saw the pictures was a tick bite....it's the bull's eye shape that concerns me. It also looks somewhat like a spider bite. I am sending good thoughts to your daughter and hope she is feeling better very soon!!

cats bites are actually toxic i saw it on animal hospital show.

Let me also add to give her benadryl if it itches-Do not let her scratch it-that can lead to staph infection. Staph is everywhere and especially under fingernails. There is staph aureus that is normally found on skin and it is supposed to be there, but it can also cause infections if it is introduced under the skin, and as someone else mentioned there is MRSA methycillin resistant staph aureus and that is a huge problem and epidemic right now all over the US. I hope it is nothing more than a local reaction to a harmless insect.

I've had those too! In PR all the time, but they were mosquito bites that I would scratch and scratch and they would get that big.

I had a spider bite that looked like that. The skin around the bite where it was red got really thick and stiff.

I don't know what kind of spider bit me, I was doing some gardening and felt a pinch but I didn't have any marks or itching until a day or two later.

It went away in about a week.
