| Don't mess with Texas... So my nine year old daughter has a project to do. The students were asked to pick a state to write about (make a billboard, etc) and she chose Texas. I'm not really sure why because we don't have any family/friends who live in Texas... Anyways, one of the rubrics include naming 3 vacation spots. I'm thinking perhaps Galvaston??? I don't really know anything about it other then a massive hurricane hit it along time ago. Can any of you Texans recommend some vacations spots? I've also been looking online at Texas websites but my daughter asked if I'd post something on here to see if she/we could get some Texas info. Also, if anybody would be willing to send me a postcard or Texas trinket, that'd be awesome. I could pay upfront for postage or any other fee incurred. Thanks! |

| I'd defiently mention San antonio as a HUGE vacation spot in Texas(its my favorite city in this state)- lots of cool stuff to do there and also Dallas/Fort Worth area as well as the houston Galveston area. So when is the project due? Im about to go out of town but if I have time before or when I come back I know I should be able to find some texas trinkets since Ive been in this state for 17 years now

I was looking at the sheet the teachers sent home (all the third graders are doing this project). It doesn't have a due date it just says the students will be presenting the projects in May, in a travel agency format. I told my daughter to make sure she asks her teacher. Thanks again for the info! | |

| I can pick somethings up - just let me know what you are looking for. Did you know Texas is the only state that can fly their flag the same height as the American flag? I know we have some funny stuff like a texas snowman (its a snow globe with water, a hat, and carrott floating around). Just let me know what you are lookin for, I will be out and about shoppin this weekend. I agree with Shana on San Antonio, its beautiful. Galveston, San Antonio are the two main ones I think. What about Dallas/Ft. Worth area? or Padre for a vacation spot. Ive lived here my whole life but never been to Padre lol Lake Texoma is one of the largest man made lakes if I remember correctly.

| Ft. Davis, in the Big Bend area of west Texas, is a wonderful vacation spot. Ft. Davis has an observatory--one of the largest in the US. Right outside of Ft. Davis is Balmorea which has the largest spring fed swimming pool in the US. Another vacation spot would be Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo. It is a beautiful canyon. Also Ft. Worth which is the gateway to the west. They have the stock yards which has long horned cattle drives every week. And Dallas has where Pres. Kennedy was killed, and 6 flags over Texas. If you need more just let me know. My husband and I spent a year and over 10,000 miles just traveling in Texas. |

| There are a lot of cool facts you can find out about Texas (like the above mentioned flag fact...there's TONS more). I would say San Antonio, Galveston, Dallas/Ft Worth, Padre/So. Padre are the primary vacation spots.

| A lot of people go to Corpus Christi, too. Another place (it's not a tourist spot or anything, but there's some interesting facts about it) is Texarkana. (that's where I'm originally from)

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | There's some really nice places to vacation here during the right months....Galveston (Beach and Ambiance) - San Antonio - (Culture and shopping & eating) - New Bransfels (river rafting is awesome) and Padre for the beach....all were mentioned already but they're each unique in their own way....I'll look to see what Texas things I have...I'm not a big trinket person but may have something if not - I can always pick up a postcard for your daughter |

| Here is a place that I loved going when I was little! http://paleo.cc/paluxy/dvsp.htm Real live dinosaur tracks....who can resist?! http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/f...nosaur_valley/ Heehee at those corny old statues...the same ones that were there when I was little! It looks like a hokey place, but these are confirmed actual dinosaur prints. (and if you care, this site has also been used to argue against evolution, since human footprints exist there along side dinosaur ones. http://www.bible.ca/tracks/tracks.htm) If you pm me your email, I think I also have something I could forward you with lots of interesting Texas facts. I'll have to dig through my inbox and see if I can find it, though!

| In Houston you have The Space Center(NASA) Houston is also known as the Space City. The Alamo in San Antonio. New Braunfels is very nice small town. I've never been in Austin, but I've heard is a very nice city. Galveston has a lot of islands where you can go bird watching and is a small but really nice town too.

| My son lives in the Las Collinas area. So I had to go to Dallas & see where JFK was shot. Loved walking around there. If we were closer to San Antonio we would have gone to see the Alamo.
