| Bed Color Opinions hello all i was just recently given a twin bed for my son and well lets say its not that its messed up its just not the nicest most up to date bed there is in fact the matresses are like from the 80's but anyway its a glammy oak color and its doesnt look like real wood, it looks like wood but weird and i wast to paint it blue like a dark blue color, but my husband said that it will look funny with the rest of his stuff since his dresser is oak and tv stand and such but this bed is ugly wood but i think in a blue it would be nice and my son agrees but i dont want some dark blue bed in the middle of the room and then oak furniture around it and it looks tacky whether hes a kid or not this will be his bed for while so i would rather him have a nice set than mis matched stuff, it is possible for me to paint the dresser blue to but would a room full of dark blur furniture look nice? his room is not huge its rather small and he will soon be sharing with my toddler boy and the toddler bed he has is oak also so maybe i shoudl just leabve it alone, or i can paint my toddlers bed to ???????? i just dont know, around here thats all the rage is colored beds right now so ill see but i thought i woud ask some opinions thanks guys

| First I'd buy a new matress. Hard to tell what all is lurking in that old one. Yes, it's ok to paint the furniture, but maybe instead of all med or dark blue, you could do the head and bottom board blue and the bed posts white. Do the chest white with blue drawers (white knobs)..........that kind of thing. |

| You could paint everything black. Black is a nice neutral color. I have seen a lot of nice black furniture at the furniture stores lately. Just a thought! |

| Paint the bed a tan color that matches the oak and add blue accents to all the furniture and the walls ( chair rail, border, sponging, stickers, something like that). Can you stain the bed? Maybe even a blue stain. If you paint the bed blue, there are many, many different shades of blue. (I work in the paint dept. at Lowe's - there are many options open, depending on how much effort, time and money you want to put into it.) Good luck!

| I saw on TV one time they did a project to make a wood headboard into a nice padded, fabric-covered one. They just wrapped it in a thin layer of foam and then made like a giant slip cover to go over it and stapled it below the mattress level. They used a sheet for the fabric and then had matching sheets on the bed -- looked very nice when they were done. But if you decide to paint the one piece -- that would be fine. It does not all have to match. Look at some of the higher end country furniture. They are all the time mixing paint and wood with natural stain. You could even just put a blue stain on part of the bed and leave some of it in the oak, like this: http://www.smokymountainwoodworks.co...roducts_id=184 and here are some other ideas for mixing on dressers: http://www.amazon.com/2-Toned-Finish...897430&sr=1-18 http://www.amazon.com/Youth-Finish-7...897430&sr=1-19 I would probably not go with all dark blue -- Too much dark will make the room seem crowded and depressing. But it sure makes a nice accent on the mixed furniture.

| If the rest of the furniture is oak you could paint the bed in a dark chocolate, use an oil base so it wears better....chocolate is considered a neutral....thought I'd offer my 2 cents

| Why not sand it down and restain it to match the dresser and table? It's so easy to do.

| What color is the bedding? You might want to have the bed color go with the bedding and the oak. I don't think I'd do a solid - I like the padded headboard idea or the knobs a different color. Whatever you decide, have fun with your "CREATIVE SIDE."

| now here are the colors i like and i dont know if they would go with a cars themed room as these are more like beachy colors but i like these colors but they most likely will not match the cars vinly border sooo that would leave me thinking of other stick up options but i would love the furniture color
