| Anyone a Hotel Manager? or Employee? I was just wondering. I am putting my experience time in & have completed a hotel management coarse. I would love any advice on how to snag a job & other helpful info- common mistakes, managing employees anything else anyone has learned that made them say "wish I would have figured this out sooner" I am learning alot by watching & listening, but mainly just what not to do's. It is hard to find someone who is a good example of what a manager should be. I plan to approach the owner where I work & let him know that I am interested in management &/or more training incase...I do think a position may be coming up soon & have expressed to the manager that I'm interested but it would be replacing her so I dont think she is relaying the message to the owner. I hate to go around her but if it does come available someone is going to get it, why not me-right? I would also love any advice from front desk or housekeeping present/past experience on why you left, what could have made you stay. Anything. I'm a sponge , I decided this what I'm going to do & want all the knowledge I can get. Thanks. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have experience working for a "mid-scale" hotel chain. I would tell you to go and stay at a few hotels that are in the same scale as the one you want to manage. Observe from a guests standpoint what made that particular hotel either a pleasant stay or not. Also, your hotel chain should offer seminars/work shops etc. that would help you tremendously, ask your manager about attending some. Good luck!!

| Mid-scale is where I'm aiming to stay. These people already want to be treated like royalty for their $50 room so I wouldnt want to deal w/5 star guests. I just had a horrible situation tonight. I'm the night auditor right now...so anyway he calls down & asks about buying a movie w/cash which means I will call & turn it on for them. I had heard a little girl in the background so I'm wondering Little Mermaid or Snow White? Then he asked what adult movies were available & if he could watch it over & over or just once I wanted to kill him. I just said I would have them call him in his room, so he left. I called & asked if I could restrict adult movies because I know there is a child in the room. They said yes but if he figures out how to do it himself he can but they wont turn one on for him. I asked that she not mention to him that he could do it on his own. I was just sick. Needless to say he wanted a refund, no other type of movie would do. He & that childs mother need to be.......something really bad. So discusting. Is there any hope for our kids with parents like this |

| I got a promotion!!!!!! I remembered asking if anyone here was a hotel manager or employee. I decided to get in this career field. I took a coarse & have been putting my experience time in. It was only the end of January when I first posted about it. Now here in April I got the job!!!! I am so happy. I love being in the right place at the right time & I have a habit of that . I start training Tuesday & will officially be manager Monday morning the 23rd I am so excited. I get my own suite w/large whirlpool to stay in anytime . I am smiling ear to ear. I told my kids Its the "SUITE LIFE" for this summer. They can enjoy the indoor heated pool all summer long |
