What's your occupation? There are so many different walks of life on this forum. What do you guys do for a living? I'll start...I am a high school teacher in Texas. I got out of school last week and have been sleeping in ever since. Anyone else? |
I'm a photographer. Lately, I've been concentrating on sports action photography for the newspaper even though I still do portrait sessions. I'm not the main breadwinner of the house so I have the ability to allow my hobby to be my career. If I were the breadwinner, I'd either still be teaching or working in the IT industry. My degree is in CIS but after graduation, I was asked to teach high school computer science and computer literacy. I really enjoyed teaching but chose to quit so that I could develop my photography business. Lisa |
My sister is a teacher at Irving Nimitz. I am currently retired (I say, but too young), mother of 18 and 14 yoa boys. I managed a nurse staffing service for Olsten for 6 years, and was an Admin Asst for the past 7 years here in Wylie. Not far from you! Now I am painting my house, gardening, I dug a pond by my pool, just doing general slave for three men and 2 (+5 pups). What do you teach? Do you have big plans for the summer? |
I am an elementary school teacher. I will begin vacation after next week. |
Hmmmmm. that's hard to answer! I am an attorney by profession but I am also a mother or 4 so I am a juggler, a taxi driver, a cook, a house keeper, a maid, a counselor/psychiatrist, a vet tech (4 dogs, 1 cat), a gardener, a contractor, a handyman, a seamstress, a party planner, a teacher, a social calendar organizer, a CEO, treasurer, secretary, accounts payble manager, chief financial officer, and ..... I currently manage my husband's 2 dental offices. No different than most of the other women (and men) on here, I would guess!! |
Attendance Clerk I am an Attendance Clerk at one of our high schools. I keep attendance for 2,200+ 9th and 10th graders. Not only do I have to deal with whiney students, but their crabby parents too. This is my first year with the school district and 9 months felt like a full year. I am so glad that it's summer break! |
I was a manager of a mental health clinic for 8 years and LOVED IT! But I decided to be a stay at home mom two years ago, I still do medical billing on the weekends for them. But now I mostly, and happily, sew doggie clothes for a living. |
I'm a full time college student and work part time in retail |

I have to say that I absolutely love my job-- I get paid to do something I truly enjoy!! I am a hairdresser!!!! ( and psychologist!! hehe) I work 4 days a week 10-12 hours a day except for Saturdays!!! I started in a salon when I was a junior in high school as a shampoo gal, and loved it soooo much- continued on!! My father wanted to kill me! I was enrollled in college, had my classes and books and last minute decided college wasn't for me!!! I get to be creative, stay with all the new fashions and trends and talk all day!!! I also get to make my own hours and schedule and vacation anytime I want to!!! :p :p And I am only 27, and have already worked in my salon for 12 years!!! :grin2: |
I used to worked as a Medical Biller but had to quit in 2000. Now I'm out on dissability. I was dx with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Depression and Stomach problems. I have 2 kids (12 yr old son and 4 yr old daugther) and Gucci my 10 months old Yorkie. |
Profession I am a registered nurse and graduate nursing student right now. |
I am mainly a homemaker. I have raised 5 kids, youngest is going on 19 in July. My oldest is 31 and I am raising her first 3, so I'm a mom for 10 more years. I have worked off and on, Fast Food, Service Station Manager, DES office, Nurses Aide, and for 2 years as a many hatted Administrative Assistant to an Alternative School/Night School/GED classes. I did it all, plenty of help from my fantastic boss who did it all alone before he hired me. Problem was he "didn't want to stand in my way" and I ended up having too many bosses, none of them him so even tho I still worked with him, I quit. Now I am a Housewife/Mother/Wanna be Yorkie breeder. I love to read and crochet. Haven't figured out how to make them pay yet. Any of those jobs reading for publishers are hard to find, won't pay those middlemen. And when people see or hear something about crocheting I think they think "Hot" and I don't sell much. By the way, I do make some beautiful things. Sylvia |

What a wonderful idea for a thread! And so interesting and moving to read all your stories - I have already been through most of the emotions in the register! I have been a searching soul in all ways of life. 2 years ago I met the love of my life and settled down in Skagen where there is 12.000 inhabitants after I had lived in Copenhagen most of my life (1,5 mill inhabitants). Moving here was greatly timed - I finished the basic psychotherapist education and could continue in a city 3 hours from here with the 2-year group and family therapy add-on. I opened my clinic and had 4 clients in the first 6 months. I then heard about a 1year temp position with a project called "Skagen-health" - 100 years ago Skagen was the finest spa and wellness city in Denmark and now the entire community wanted to go together to make it so again. And they needed a projectcoordinator. Since I had tried so many different jobs in my life (and 5 years of selfemployed IT projectcoordination was one of them) I was the perfect choice for that. I could slowly build up my clinic on the side and our bills would get payed. But at August 12th the job is over and there is no chance of getting it extended - the leaders need to apply some fonds and they can't do that this side of summer. Maybe there will be a job for me again next year, but until then I have to make do. I have 5 clients right now and I can't live of that, so I might have to do some cleaning or computersupport on the side. But it's all ok, since my husband and I love to be together, so we have bought a cheap house and live cheap and hope to both have parttime jobs some day so we can spend the most of our lives together instead of being at work :) After the summerholiday I start offering my services to buisiness and industry - let's see if that doesn't improve the income - I am a great teacher and coach! :) I have always gotten by and so has Thomas, so we'll make it - even if we have do cleaning jobs at night. |
Hi, I used to be a manicurist until my second son was born 2 years ago.Now I am a stay at home mom. This is the hardest job I've ever had.24/7, no pay or vacation time. |
I am a mom to six....yes six kids all under the age of 12, four of which are 4 and under  other than that I am a student working to get my degree in criminal justice and forensic science. |
I work part time as an office cleaner that funds the work I do with a dog rescue group and allows me to be home all day with my dogs. |
By profession, I am a Graphics/ Web designer and have been so for the past 3 years. Of late, I have started it full-time and am waiting for a call back from a great company (thanks to Christie [Whitech6])! I am also a full-time student, but took a semester off to concentrate on the "real life". On the side, I am also a girlfriend (which is hard work puttin' up with these men!) and a mother (of Fred, that is). I am also an insomniac! It's 5:30AM right now. This is the time people wake up. I haven't even slept yet! |
