Is anyone here from Dover, De? Krysten is totally lost. She thought she was in Baltimore but we figured out she is in Dover. That is how good she is at reading maps. She wasn't even in the right state. She made 2 trips to the ER last nite for an infection on her cornea and was supposed to go back this morning but headed out to SC instead. The Dr. said she could lose her sight if they don't get it taken care of. After over $200 worth of prescriptons so far, they aren't even sure how to treat it. Went to the King of Prussia Mall and it has been all downhill since then. It is slippery and there are accidents. She has a horrible headache and can't see out of the one eye. She is crying and stressing. I, being her Mom, know nothing so she took the advise of some guy in a gas station who said just take Rte 1 South and it will take you right to Va. Beach. She is going to her brother's in Hampton tonite. Any help? PLEASE:hands: Forgot to mention, she is out of money because of the cost of the prescriptions which the Dr. said she could get in generic - no generic avail. And the bank messed up her debit card so she can't access her money until her new card comes. It's gonna be a long nite.

Somebody, please let me know if route 1 will go directly into Va Beach.

If she takes Rt 1 it is going to take her about 5 or 6 hours she need to find US13South and stay on that till she see's Rt 64 West it should take her about 3 1/2 hours it is 200 miles

Doesn't Rt 1 run parallel with Rt 13? Rt 13 does take you to Va Beach so I would think Rt 1 would take you there too although it may take you to Chesapeake VA. :confused:

Rt 1 swings out along the coast and Rt 13 is a straight shot i was looking at a map

Plus i used to go to Williamsburg, Va all the time so i no the area

does she have some money on her because part of the road is a toll road

if she does not have any money you have to let me no right away because she will have to go a completely different way since you have to take the toll road if you go Rt1 or 13

Thank you, she just called and said she is going to take 13. Her words to me were "Jeeze Mom, if I can drive to the mall, I can certainly drive to SC". Yeah, sweetie, same thing with only 700 extra miles :) . Does 13 cross the bay? If it does, she will freak out - she is terrified of bridges. At least it will be dark so she won't see as well.

i hope you are getting these yes she will have to go threw the bay bridge tunnel have you ever done that it is very different from the bay bridge she will be going down threw ocean city, maryland and at the every tip she will have to take the bay bridge tunnel into va.

Is it all tunnel or both?

it is both you go in and out of the water does she have enough money for the tolls

she has her best friend with her and she has some cash on her. She is worse at reading maps than Krysten. The little bit left on the card will have to be used for a dr. I put money on the card tonite but it won't be avail to her until Tues. am. Now, just pray she remembers to stop and get gas.

I have, when I first moved to Dallas, someone gave me directions to a mall in Lewisville. Well I went north instead of South and ended up in Oklahoma.

she is gonna freak going over the water. She is terrified of bridges. She hides her eyes. At least it will be dark so she won't see as much of the water. I think the tunnel will be ok. She may never want to drive again after this.

ok good luck to her if she stays on 13s then 64 west she will get there fine.

just talked to her. She is at a gas station trying to figure out what to do. She started getting a panic attack just thinking about going over the bridge so they told her to go back to 95 which will be another 2 hours. She talked to her brother and he said the ferry doesn't run at nite, so that's out. She will let me know when they figure out what they are doing. The people at the gas station are trying to help them.

she really has no choice it is either go back and go down 95 which yes will be an extra 2 hours or go 13 and go over the bridge tunnel that is her only choice

oh goodness! I'm glad that she is not alone. I hope she gets to her destination safe!! Let us know.

BTW-when I was a beginner driver, my mother gave me a credit card JUST FOR EMERGENCIES!! Maybe thats something you can get her for circumstances like this.

She has a card coming in her name for this account for that reason. She also has a student's first card - a prepaid card - but not every place will accept it and it does have restrictions - except for gas. They let you go over if it's a gas purchase. She has been trying to get her own card but that's kinda tough when you have no credit. I don't remember ever having this many challenges to face when I turned 18. Just figuring out how to climb onto the dinosaur in a dress for a big nite out at the school dance!:D

Hope she is on the right track now and safely at her destination soon. My dtr has our visa card with her name on it since she was 16 and knows to only use it for gas or emergencies and with my permission.

OMG V, you saw someone go off one? That would scare the heck out of me. I have always gotten the willies going over bridges but it's pretty tough to avoid them altogether.

Just talked to Krysten - They are in Seaford, DE and found a motel to stop at. She said it is so slippery and she is starting to see double and the pain is spreading to the back of her head. She also said there are police cars all over the median and accidents everywhere. Probably a little exaggeration there, but none the less, not good for traveling. They have been in DE for ovre 5 hours and still have a ways to go. Well, a good nite's rest should help. But she really needs to get to an opthalamalogist asap. Luckily her brother is a pharmacist so he should probably have a little pull at getting her in quickly. I will keep you all informed as things progress. Thank you guys, you are the greatest.:)

She forgot to tell me she is taking 13 and is going to do the bridge. Let's hope for the best.

Holy smokes. First off I have to ask why is she even driving herself in the first place? Secondly, couldn't her friend drive over the bridge why she closes her eyes or sleeps?

She is driving herself because she will need her car for school and work. Her friend doesn't have her license yet. The biggest reason is because she is eighteen and has a mind of her own and a stubborn streak a mile wide. She left me a message this morning and said she felt alot better, had gotten exact directions to her brother's house and should be there any time now. He is a pharmacist, so he will be able to get her in to see an opthamolagist.
She just called and is at his house. She made it over the bridge unscathed. So she is half way there. The rest of the trip should be a piece of cake. No malls :D . Just Pedro's South of The Border!!! I sure feel better knowing she got that far.
