| Harley Trys to Eat Anything and EVERYTHING! HELP! I just got my first yorkie puppy Harley this past Friday and I've discovered that he has a taste for anything and everything. He picks up anything that will/or will not fit in his mouth, chew on it, suck on it and "try" to swallow it before I see him. I firmly say "No" and remove whatever the article might be (bottle caps, dog hair, lego's, shoe strings.. ANYTHING) from his mouth. This morning he even got a hold of some kind of mint and swallowed it before I could pull it out! Now his breath smells fresh but all his antics are really starting to scare me to death. I'm afraid he's going to get a hold of something and it's going to really hurt him. I vacuume and pick up my house every day to make sure there's nothing for him to snag but no matter how hard I try, he still manages to find something to put in his mouth. He has toys but prefers playing w/ odds and ends he finds laying around. Is this normal behavior? Does anyone have some advice? I've been considering purchasing a containment pen for indoor and outdoor use so there will be a much smaller area for me to have to monitor for stray items he could eat. Is this a good idea? Thanks. |

| Yes it is normal! They will pick up any little tiny piece of paper on the floor. I have a puppy playpen but I also I have a baby playpen that I just stick her in when I am doing something and can't keep and eye on her. |

| Oh how funny and totally normal. They are like little human babies and yes will want to eat anything that is not allowed. You are doing your best it sounds by picking up anything "forbidden" that you can find, but yeah they will still manage to find that last little hidden object and go at it! Good luck!

| Yes this is very typical. A pen seems like a good idea. You should also have the kids be more aware about leaving things around. I am always harping on my Hubby. |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Both of our girls are the same and they are 6 and 8 months old!!! Magic has gotten a little better but there are times where she will eat whatever she can find just because...Sailor likes to eat stuff outside and will find any bug that is around and try to eat it...I think as they get older they stop doing it so much but until then we keep our house clean with nothing we don't want chewed up on the floor!!!
