I live in Pittsburgh but I didn't grow up here and they have their own dialect here (Pittsburgh-ese) dahn for down worsh for wash up_air for up there saa-side for south side EVERYBODY SAYS AIN'T THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON.... (T-shirts are sold with Pittsburgh-ese on them) I don't like when people say supposebly for supposedly...and my personal favorite...irregardless...I remember my English teacher in high school used to cringe whenever the principal would make announcements and use the word "irregardless" |

uh no there's more important things than worrying about silly or mispronounced words i can't correctly type right half the time anyways. |
I have to say that growing up, my Mom always said "youins" you-ins!!! Instead of you all - it was youins! Very country! Course, I really do not like when my MIL says "huh" right after she asks you a questions or says something to you.....she will say something and then push you or poke you and say "huh"! Dang......that drives me NUTS!!! |
Ax...omg that gets on my nerves more than anything, LOL In the town I used to live in, we had murals painted on the floodwall, and my ex MIL would say she was going to go see the murials...omg that would crack me up, so I started calling them that all the time :D My fiance, he pronounces words wrong just to be funny...a Mercedes is a Merkadees, a yacht is a yatchett, a knife is a Knife-the K is not silent, LOL the list could go on and on...LOL Great thread!! |
one Aunt would call yarn----yard another would say stofe instead of stove. |
I have spent the last twenty minutes reading this thread and laughing my butt off! Thank you so much!!! My husband says ignoring for annoying and I tell him "THAT is ANNOYING!!" so now he says "it drives me nuts!" LOL |
My best friend of 31 years, God rest her soul, would say fein instead of fend. As in, fend for yourself. She did that with a lot of words, but for some reason that one always made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I'd give anything now to hear her say it again! PS Thanks for the post as I REALLY needed the comic relief, just aks my son! |
