I'm sorry you don't live in Houston, there is a lady in south HOuston who makes the best champurrado in the whole Houston area. I used to live in Mexico City, so I know what a good champurrado is, sorry I don't know how to make it:D |

Mexican chocolate, name Nestle Abuelita Chocolate tablets cinnamon about 2 sitcks sugar ( I dont use use sugar, I use a mexican hard brown sugar bar, but sugar will work too) Masa or you can use mexican flour for corn tortillas also known as maseca milk water I am soooooo bad at giving recipes as you can tell:D I learned to cook when I was very young (11 years old)from my mother and she taught me to cook by taste not measuring. So everytime my friends ask me how I make something is hard to explain so I usually cook it for them to teach them:D Champurrado is a recipe that is hard to explain because if you dont stir it around enough it will not be thick enough:p and will not taste the same okay here it goes: put a little water(1/2 cup) to boil and add the cinnamon stick in with the water. After it starts to smell like cinnamon and you see the water turning color add the milk, I usually make 3/4 of a gallon(regular gallon of milk) let it get to where it is hot not boiling(never let boil) and add the tablet of chocolate, stir, stir and stir until the tablet melts:D and your arm hurts:D j/k In a cup, mix cold water not hot with the maseca or masa(remember corn)about 4 tsp until is not lumpy and then slowly add to the pot of milk, water, etc. It will start to thicken up, dont stop stiring. After everything is mix together you can add sugar to taste:D remember the chocolate is sweet so try to taste as you mix(careful not to use the same spoon, your mix will thin out, you dont want that. Let it boil as you stir, the key is to never stop stiring:eek: See I told you I am horrible at giving out recipes. Or like someone else suggested try to find someone who makes it, I just believe: "It will never taste the same as if you make it" Well let me know what you think. |
