| Christmas Traditions Another thread got me thinking about Christmas, and Santa in particular. I doonot believe in Santa Clause anymore, and I'm not sure I ever really did (after around 5 or 6 years old) My parents never REALLY tried to hide it, and it was earthshattering when I found out. My mom still signs specific packages "From Santa" even though Me (20), my brother (20) and my other brother (14) know they are from her. We STILL leave things out for santa to nibble on... Weird though... Santa (and my slim mom) now prefer CARROTS and RANCH DRESSING instead of COOKIES and MILK.... So... I guess my tradition is a little quirky but I love it Anyone else?

| We try to keep Santa real for as long as possible in our family. It's fun and we've been pretty good at it. Even when we can tell they have learned the truth, our kids pretend to believe for a year or two more. We leave cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. We pretend to hear bells or see something flying in the sky. It's always so cute when they hear or see them too. We make boot prints in the snow and leave the gnawed carrots outside. Sometimes Santa accidentally leaves something behind like a glove and we have to put it in a package to be sent to the North Pole. One year, when my nephew was starting not to believe he wanted to call Santa at the North Pole. It took some doing but his mom was able to find the special number. He was amazed when Mrs. Claus put Santa on the phone and Santa knew (thanks to his older brother) all the special presents he wanted. Now that my kids are older, our tradition is we all decorate the tree while listening to and singing Christmas carols, drink eggnog and eat homemade Christmas cookies. And we each have a special ornament we "fight" to see who can get on the highest/best spot of the tree. The entire time the tree is up the ornaments keep getting switched. We try not to get caught changing them. Now, I can't wait for Christmas.

| "We make boot prints in the snow and leave the gnawed carrots outside. Sometimes Santa accidentally leaves something behind like a glove and we have to put it in a package to be sent to the North Pole." That's AWESOME! I've done some similar things, but for times like Easter w/ the Easter bunny. I'll have to do this sometime-that's awesome! I had a neighbor once that had a daughter that wasn't really feeling the whole Santa Claus thing and to turn around her opinion, I stole a Neubian goat from a friends house, put a belled harness on it that wasn't built for the goat...it was interesting trying to get that thing to stay put, strapped on my friends mucking boots (they were like a size 11 or 12 mens and I'm a size 7 womens...no fun in the snow, lol) and walked that goat up the driveway (it was heated...so no prints) spooked it so it jumped into the yard from the driveway-I did the same and it actually looked liked we had "landed" in the yard! We walked across the front yard leaving our prints and let the prints disapear into the road. It was a lot of fun and she believed come next morning. She confessed that she had heard bells and got up earlier than usual and saw the tracks and poop (rofl, the goat had left his own presents in the snow!) and she was a believer again and it lasted for the next two years easy. Simlar concept, but I didn't think to leave a glove!!! And then MAIL it back to him! That's awesome. |
