Villette .... you are scary! As I read the post before yours, scrolling up to say "tell them it's for someone else" ... there, you said it!!!

That's exactly what I would tell them .... and a step further .... would actually have a friend come over and remove it to someone's house where they wouldn't find it again!!

we bought one a few years ago a yellow ine the 1st around here to get one for christmas then everyone else got them! those buggers are expensive! we all use it and love it even my toddler and princees my female yorkie love to ride it!

My son had the most nimble little fingers when he was small. he would sneak and unwrap everything. We always told him that Santa only left it for awhile to see if he was going to be good. if he wasn't, then Santa would take it back christmas Eve night if it was something big or if it was in a box, we would tell him he would open empty boxes if he wasn't good so it was still kind of a surprise.

My dad has always been bad about picking up his packages out from under the tree & shaking them & guessing exactly what was in it. We have never been able to figure out how he does it because he doesn't cheat...he just guesses. Well, one year, my Mom got him good. She waited until a couple of days before Christmas & we wrapped all his stuff into one HUGE box. He couldn't even pick it up (it wasn't full, just BIG). He had no CLUE what was in it. It was so funny to see his face on Christmas morning when he opened it up & it was just smaller packages wrapped inside.

My sister and I found our presents one year, and my mom made us go with her to return them which was heartbreaking. She did go back and get them later because we did get them for Christmas. But we never went looking for a presents evey again because we new mom would take them back to the store.

The way I would do it is sit them down and explain you are sorry , but you were letting a friend store it their to surprise their kids for Christmas. the go on and explain to them you know how much they want one but you really can't afford it this year and maybe they all could make a plan how for next year they could get one if they all followed a plan.

of course if you already told them it was for them.... LOL.. this is all useless and I say MAKE THEM WAIT

If you give it to them now you will feel obligated to get them MORE for CHRISTMAS

We were not going to give credit to Santa for the 4 wheeler, we worked too hard saving for this thing. LOL Besides we don't want to encourage them asking Santa for something as expensive next year! My oldest is on the cuff of believing in santa anyway. He wanted to know if there really was a santa, why are there so many people hungry and without homes. And why are we donating a toy to the salvation army for a child who may not receive any, won't santa give them one?

My kids have been asking if Santa is real lately too. I wasn't raised with Santa Clause, but my husband was. My mom taught us as kids that SC was a fairy tale and was fun for make believe. My husband believed in SC until he was around 11 I think.

I didn't want our kids to think they got whatever they wanted just for being good, because what happened if one year we couldn't get everything they asked for??? Then they would think they weren't good enough. I always thought I wouldn't do SC like my mom did, but when I got married my husband said SC is the fun part of Christmas. So we compromised.

We told our kids that the presents they get aren't based on good/bad behavior, but based on SC's price list. Every year, Santa sends mommy and daddy a catalog with a detailed price list. The kids tell us what they would like to have, and we consult the price list to see if we can afford it. Sometimes we pay Santa early and he delivers them earlier than Dec 24, cuz how else can he get the presents delivered all over the world?? We told them they arrive unwrapped so we can be sure the right gifts arrived LOL We also told them that when Santa comes on Dec 24 we pay COD. LOLOL So far so good, and the kids still enjoy the SC tradition.

I agree with everyone else - tell them it's for someone else, and you were just holding it. Or if there's no doubt they know it's for them, then really, the surprise wasn't RUINED it was just given to them early! They were still just as happy to get it!

My mom was telling me the other day how when she was younger she and her brother and sisters would always BEG my grandparents to let them open their presents on Christmas Eve. And every year they said no. Then one year my grandma said yes and so they opened them all. Then they were really dissapointed when they got up Christmas Morning and there were no presents - they never asked again after that.

I found out there was no SC at around age 9 I think because of my older brother, somone told him LOL But my mom used to put cotton on the window pretending that Santa's beard got caught on the window. I used to leave cookies too and milk and someone would eat them....Finally when I found out the truth my mom told us but my dad didn't know we knew so he kept trying to tell us to be good or else santa won't get us stuff. My mom also never put presents under the tree until Christmas because she didn't trust us
