| I had braces as an adult (just a few years ago) for 3 years I had people twisting wire and metal in my mouth... I can handle the dentist after all that!!!! Bracese hurt a lot!!! But they were well worth it!

Kristy is right. I got a tiny chip in my tooth trying to open a bottle of nail polish. When I went to the dentist I mentioned it and asked if it needed to be filled. My dentist told me no. A year later after a different dentist took xrays, they tell me the tooth is in bad shape - I never felt any pain - they are going to try and fill it but it might need a root canal. The filling didn't work out. It was too close to the nerve and omg the pain, so I ended up getting the root canal. All of this could have been prevented if my first dentist had just taken care of it in the beginning.

| This is weird, I had the same thing happen yesterday. Lost a large chunk of my tooth to a piece of bubble gum. Whatever possessed me to pick up that piece of gum, I don't know. To top that off, it was one they did a root canal in last year!! The tip of my tongue is raw this morning -- I must have been rubbing the jagged edge of the remaining tooth while I slept. Probably what woke me up all too early. Guess we will both be calling the dentist this morning.

| ok this is something i know alot about as far as having it done goes thanks to the past few years! to start with one day i found a whole in my back lower left tooth on the bottom one of the big rear ones! well i went to have it checked out the "dentist" came in with a needle going to get ready to work on it i guess and didn't even look at it ask me anything tell me anything needless to say i said no got up and left! i was terrified and freaked out about all of this also! so i went to someone else my bosses dentist come to find out he's been doing dentistry for ages literraly i mean sense they didn't have anestisia..he told me that! experience GREAT right ? well in some cases but not when it came to this mans dental tools! he had the oldddddd antique ones!!! i'm not trying to scare you but he had the big old needles with metal casings and the circle at the end you push down for the med. it hurt! but he filled the tooth almost my whole tooth on the inside was gone now with a big ugly filling in it i hated the way it looked! ok years down the road i'm at work chewing gum yeah shouldn't do that the dang thing comes out YUCK! so i go to another dentist not the old one with midevil tools and i had to get a root canal and a porcelin crown . they numbed and gassed me and honestly i didn't feel anything it's kinda freaky having someone dig out your tooth but it's REALLY nothing like people make it out to be! no where near what the filling was like! i think it had a huge differance because of the tools he used are more updated the numbing needle was tiny and hooked up to a machine that dispenses the numbing meds!! they put pn a temp crown and ordered my porcelin made to fit and look like a real tooth! it looked better and didn't hurt anything at all like i thought it would i went to work that day!! anyways they did xray that day come to find out my 4 wisdom teeth never came in and 2 are impacted one sideways against that tooth i had so much trouble with! i made an appointment to have them cutt out yes cutt out from under my gums all 4 at one time! they put me under and did it i woke up hours later and well asked them was it done already? yeah funny i don't remember anything don't feel anything!! i don't know what meds they had me on but they worked!! gave me a pain prescip and went on my way had to take them for maybe 2 days?? i had no problems with the healing no dry sockets nothing! i think one had stitches my face swelled and neck bruised looked like someone smacked me. i went to work like the next day or maybe 2 days later! then a few months later i got braces!!!!! they were sore when they put them on for about a week and when they change the wires but i have a new kind i only got every 2 months. now it's been about 3 years i think and i have a wire the size of a paper clip on my tops more bands than a office supply store but they have made a huge differance! i never knew had jacked up my teeth really were until they started moving around! yikes! anyways remember that crown? well a few weeks ago about 10pm i bit down on my teeth really hard i guess and i broke it! a big piece off the corner of it it came out also . i went back to the dentist they numbed me and pryed it off! it couldn't be repaired now i go back today to get my new "permanent crown" let's hope this one's stronger! they aren't supposed to break . i asked for a porcelin with metal biting surface this time! anyways the moral of the story is don't wait to get it fixed things REALLY aren't as bad as you think and people hype it up to be and it needs to be done! i really believe that the tools & meds make a huge differance and the whole dentist experience much more tolerable!

| Well I can relate also. I was supposed to have a root canal done on my molar but due to lack of funds I didnt do it. And now I have to have it pull. It has a huge hole on it's side. Good luck girl. I guess im the exemption to the rule because Im dont mind the dentist, actually I love the cleaning. |

| They don't always hurt. Sometimes when they fill a tooth, they kill the nerve so that you can't feel it anymore. I have a birth defect in my teeth (not one that's visible unless you ARE a dentist though) so they had to do that to several of them...even though I didn't have to have fillings. Hey, consider yourself lucky that it isn't sending you throught the roof when you drink something. |
