I BIT My TONGUE!!!!! OH, LORDY!!! STUPID PEOPLE SHOULD NOT SPEAK...EVER!!!!!!!! Grrrrrr!!!!! So, I go into my vet's office to get some Frontline Plus. Even with treated lawn, we've gotten a couple of fleas...YUCK! So, there is a young couple in there that has a yorkie in their lap...a small one ("teacup"). I told the receptionist that I wanted ONE tube and to please do the calculations on doses so that I could take care of all 3 dogs with 1 tube ($19) instead of buying 3 tubes ($57). The receptionist asked for the weights of my dogs. I tell her, "Rebel is 4 1/2 lbs and Gracie & London are 5 1/2 lbs". OMG!!!!!! I hear these stupid people talking to their dog..."Well, you're not near as big as her dogs! She's got BIG dogs! You're a tiny!!" WTF?????:eyebrow2: Okay...this isn't the first time this has happened. I remember taking Gracie in to a vet around 10 months of age. She weighed 4 1/2 lbs. This lady said, "WOW! She's HUUUUUGE!" :scratchhe  So, back to today...I bit my tongue and didn't show my a$$ like I wanted to but someone PLEASE tell me! Since the craze of owning tinies or "teacups", people think that 4 - 4 1/2 lb dogs are sasquatches or something. Since when is a 4 1/2 lb dog a BIG dog???? Sometimes, I just want to slap the **** out of stupid people!:fainted: :thumbdown |
i've had this happen to me too. people are so vain. to judge an animal by how much they weigh. a vet tech called my 5.5lb dog a little piggy! |

I have had that happen to me too. Some people that own tinys are so rude. My next yorkie is going to be a smaller one and i will never act like that. |
Sissy is considered a "tiny" - she is tiny in size, but weighs 4 lbs. A friend of mine has a yorkie who is 4 1/2 lbs, but much larger in size. But I would never consider him huge, nor would I ever say that about another dog. There are always going to be rude people - no matter what. Whether it be size or breed, some folks will always have an opinion that basically says "my dog is better than your dog". We all know our babie are special - so just keep reminding yourself of that and nevermind what anyone else thinks! |
:tongue036 So Kimberley - why don't you tell us how you really feel:D You are tooooo funny and I can just hear you as you turn around to tell them just what you really think in your Texas drawl but I think I will leave that to everyone's imagination. |

txshopper73- I cracked up at your "WTF". Itotally understand about the 5lb.elephant remarks. My Jack is 5lbs. also, and when I look at him he's so tiny to me. I see this same kind of attitude on this forum also. I remember seeing a post saying they could'nt imagine carring around a 5lb. dog all day because it would get heavy for them. For petes sake a new born baby weighs 6-8lbs.I just shake my head and have a little chuckle. |
Wow Kimberely... if yours are "BIG" then mine are elephants. Man!!! 10-11 lbs. I bet those people would flip out. OHHHH well, I love my boys, and I like their "pigginess" :p. But I do hate people's ignorance and am with you on this one. They need to get over themselves because your dogs are NOT big! I think they are precious!!! |
You know, I feel bad for those that own the tinies and they feel discriminated against. But what about owning standards and being discriminated against? It's a two way street. I think tinies are precious and I'd love to have one. However, don't talk **** about my dogs just because you own a tiny. Am I making sense? |
Cali is 4 1/2 lbs and I have never seen a smaller dog in person, so I don't know where people think that 4 1/2 5 1/2 lb dogs are big. All my neighbors haven't seen Cali since last fall when she was a baby and they all say wow she got huge. Huge she's 4 1/2 lbs? People are ignorant |
Well, if your furbabies are HUGE at 4-5lbs, then how do I describe Baby at between 7-8lbs? LOL These people are ignorant. They know nothing about Yorkies....they just buy then because "t-cups" and "purse babies" are the hot commodity now. Everytime a child sees my dog, they think she is a puppy b/c she's small. Then I say, no this is how big she will get. And they get all excited! :D I LOVE the size of Baby...I love her tummy. I give it kisses in the morning when she turns over for me to rub her belly. :p |
I have had this happen to me as well and neither of mine are over 3 pounds. |
I deal with this almost everyday,, people " OMG that is the biggest Yorkie I have ever seen!" Like he should be on some freakshow,in the circus. I don't even comment anymore.. Oh yeah,, 10 pounds is amlost Great Dane size.. |
Boy would I love to have let them see my 12lb Sophie! They would have really been shocked. I have had so many people say rude things about Sophie's size. I just don't get it. If you want a tiny thats fine but for those who don't why do people have to be so critical. Sophie is still a small dog that we take every where and she is very beautiful. |
 , I would've slapped her where she needed it! Don't worry, I bet the babies are happy and healthy.:animal36 |
It's people like that who, in my honest opinion, did NOT research the breed before purchasing their furbaby or they would have known Yorkies come in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. And it's also people like that that make me wonder what in the heck they are gonna do with this same furbaby if he/she grows to be bigger than what they thought!! When I purchased Gabby, the breeder told me (and I saw the parents) how much the parents weighed and that Gabby "could" be around the same size. I was never mislead to believe she would stay around 5 pounds. She now weighs in at a whopping 16 pounds and I wouldn't trade her for anything!!! So to the idiotic people you encountered in the vet, she wouldn't be an elephant (some others have that title at 10 pounds) - she'd be more along the lines of the prehistoric mammoth!!!:D :D |
It's SUCH A shame that the tiny craze has many people thinking that Yorkies are susposed to be HAMPSTER size.... & they're huge if they are standard weight and size..... Kim - you did good not saying anything - but I would have stated your yorkies are a PERFECT size and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that ! Tinies are very adorable and I love them too - but people's conception is way OFF these days about what a real yorkie size is susposed to be. I don't have tinies - (I would never say no to one either) - but to me my girls ARE Small....I'd be scared to have them 1/2 the size they are now - I want to enjoy them ... not worry constantly...and I would if they were really small. |
I had Mandi into the vet for a check recently and she said that Mandi will probably be between 5-7 pounds full grown. Her comment was "the perfect size." She said it scares her that some yorkies are so small. She said it is really hard to treat them if they ever get sick--IV's and stuff. The little tiny ones are certainly adorable but with having 2 human children in addition to my dogs, I think it best to have a dog that isn't so minature. Gosh, I think 5 pounds is still tiny!! You know we'd love them if they were 20#'s it don't matter. :) |

I'm afraid I wouldnot have been so nice, to me and this is my opinion, but a 1 1 1/2 pound dog can not be healthy! I would think it would always be sick! And just think, one wrong step and bye bye yorkie! some people really need to get there head out of there a$$es! |
wow my dogs must be great danes !! |
i've had my first encounter with this at the animal shelter! when i was getting Oreo and Ginger's licenses.. a man was like wow is that a yorkie? i'm like yes sir.. and he was saying wow she must be a mix of a silky cause she's huge.. mind you Ginger is only 7 lbs, but is skinny and long.. he said he knows his silkies really well and my ginger must have silky in her.. i'm like :thumbdown no. she's purebred Yorkie and normal one at that. |

LOL - I have an unused hampster cage! Seriously, Kimberly, I feel your pain. My teapost elicits LOTS of comments...yet, when she's curled up in a ball in the middle of my livingroom (like right now), she still looks like a tiny little peanut to me! |
Well..I'm thwee pounds and Peanut is six pounds and Mommy wuvs us dust de same! My uvver sister, Gwacie, who is at da Wainbow Bwidge was 7 pounds, and Mommy and Daddy wuvved her soooooo much! It don't matter how big or wittle you are in dogs or people! JMHO. Wuv, Wexy:p |

4 1/2 and 5 1/2 lbs are HUGE? They are well within the Yorkie standard......what a strange thing to say, not to mention Rude... Francie |
It is sad that the craze nowadays are the tinier the better when it comes to pets. I personally wouldn't want a Yorkie or any dog that was so small! I just couldn't imagine. I picked my daughters friend up last weekend and seen her mini schnauzer for the first time since it was first brought home. I mentioned how big she had gotten since the last time I had seen her and boy, did I hear about it. I didn't mean it as being overly big or overweight or anything, just how much she had grown up since I had last seen her. Boy, she was so ticked off for the longest time. Course, the sad thing is, she is now looking for a small long hair chihauha (?) and I just hope it wasn't because of my comments. - This coming from a 12 year old animal lover - yeah, sounds like she loves her animals if the one she has isn't good enough anymore, huh? Then again, I understand people saying how big your Yorkie looks, even if it isn't big at all. I have had numerous occasions where people will say something about how Mojo is bigger than their dog or so on. I just tell him his weight (between 5-5.5lbs) and that he is healthy. Course, to me, with his hair long, he looks bigger than normal, but in my eyes, he is perfect!!! ha! Anyway, I wanted to add to my other post that my vet (not tech) told me that a man came in awhile back looking for Yorkies to breed, but he did not allow anything under 4.5lbs. She couldn't believe it. She said that she thinks 5-10lbs is ideal. Everyone is different though |
