I have nothing against tinies personally but i would rather my dog have a bit of substance. I mean, I worry and obsess over Nikko now and he is a healthy 5.5 pounder. Can you imagine how neurotic I would be if he were 3 pounds? It must be so stressful to own a dog so fragile and delicate that the mere air can hurt it. Give me a standard or teapot Yorkie over a tiny any day!! |

I hate when people act like that! The other thing I hate almost as much as when they say she's not even a dog cuz she's so small!!! Grrr....I can't understand how someone can say that right to my dog and me!!!! |
I have never had that happen to me, there tends to be really big dogs around here and very few small dogs. But I don't know if I could have kept my mouth shut on that, I don't like "teacup" dogs, they arn't as healthy and it does not take much to injure them, plus some of them look like a stuffed animal, totally fake. Don't get me wrong I am not saying I hate them, just that they arn't for me. I would rather brag about my 7 pound yorkie than one that was really tiny. I love the standard size of a yorkie, at 7 pounds they are still perfect to me. I would rather have a 7 pounder than one that only weighed 1 or 2 pounds, jmo. |
What jerks! People are sooo stupid!! I would've loved to hear what they had to say about Kirby, a 13 lb. half-breed. |
People are just like that. My oldest yorkie is 3.5 pounds and they do that to her too. But its more like "shes a little girl. but not as small and cute as you". Usually happens at petsmart. My baby's weight goes up to 4.5 pounds during a heat cycle and honestly you can't tell. I haven't seen a yorkie yet that wasn't gorgeous. I prefer them 4 or over 4 pounds so you won't have to worry about thier health, but the tinies are all the rage. You did good in ignoring the remark. You proved you were the bigger person. 4.5 to 6 pounds is not big. My poodles are 8 and 10 and that isn't even big. Not to me atleast |
You probably did the right thing, to ignore them and their stupidity. I would have been tempted to educate them to the breed standards, but I found people like this don't really care about things like standards. They will be crass in their comments regardless of what they have been told. Girl, you must have some sort of self control though, cause I don't think I could have walked away w/o some comment:p |
My parents have a 12 lbs yorkie! Imagine the remarks they get! :D |
She would have went into cardiac arrest if she saw Buddy. All 13.7lbs of him. She would have thought he was on steriods! LOL Sounds like she is just tuned into her TINIES. |

They probably had a little puppie that is going to grow!!! I wonder what they will do if it grow up to be an enormous 5lb!!!! Silly people. Yorkies come in all sizes Alfie is about 7lbs and Lottie is 5lbs and I think they are tiny , my mums yorkie is 21lbs you should see the looks we get when we all go out together!!I think its sad that people are so preoccupied with weight!Give me a healthy yorkie and I dont care what size it is. |
how rude!   some people can be so ignorant (sp) take my cousins yorkie for example, she went to the vet to ask questions about breeding and all that and when this young intern was filling out a form and asked her the reason for the appoinment and when she told her why the girl looked at Sophie, my cousins yorkie, and said "Isnt your little piggy too big to breed?" with this kind of smirk on her face!!!!   but the outcome was that so called "intern" is no longer there after my cousin had a word with the vet. some people are so, just GRRR! :thumbdown |
I HATE HATE HATE when people say that to me too!!! Stewart is only 2.95lbs and Rellie is 3.8!!! They are both FULL GROWN!!! It makes me sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo mad when we see people with PUPPIES that are only 1-2 lbs, and they say mine are HUGE compared to theirs!!! IM LIKE WTF too!!!!!! I always think in the back of my mind, you wait, you just wait, yours is gonna grow DUH!!!!!! |
I have two bigger yorkies that are 8 & 9 lbs then I have 3 that are 4 to 5 lbs & one that is 6 lbs, I have had a run in with a few people at the vets well I'm very HOT temper so they got a ear full until my hubby heard my voice rise and he new somebody had pissed me off and they was going to catch hell well they caught some but he stop me, I could have ripped her head off.Everbody got a option there like buttholes, so with the little tiny ones all I got to say is good luck have lots of $$$$ there to sickly for me, and if you have one in good health good because there few and far between. |
The little one under my name is Weezy she weigh in at 5 lbs |
People are idiots. I will be sooooo glad when this teacup craze passes....and I OWN one!!! My 10 month old (who was given to us) is less than three lbs, and just me myself personally, I do NOT like it. I love HER, you understand, but ooooooh I wish she'd put some meat on her bones. I much prefer the stockier, more substantial build of my 14 week old puppy--I think she's much more cuddley! Anyway, my puppy already weighs more than the 10 month old, and when we're out in public she automatically gets "passed over" by all the people ooohing and awwwwing over my older tiny girl. So I'm BRACING myself for what it will be like when she's grown. I know it's going to tick me off! EVERYONE I meet who sez. that they want a yorkie is looking for "teacups". I try to take advantage of the opportunity to educate about the possible health and safety issues, and noone wants to hear it. They're all like, "But I just want a little dog to sit by me on the couch while I watch TV". What the heck?!?! Anything over four lbs. is too big to sit by you on the couch?! Someone forgot to tell that to my 16 lb. cat! :p |

Shylah is a tiny yorkie, but not what I was looking for. It just happened to be a female available from this breeder. You worry a lot more about the little guys then you do the bigger ones. Starsky is a hefty 9.5 lbs and never has had a health problem. I do get questioned about what kind of dog he is since he is so big, but he has a cute yorkie face and it isn't hard to figure out when you look at that. I can't wait for little Shylah to grow more!! |

Sorry, but to me. 4 1/2 lbs IS small. We 'share' Kasey who is almost 3 lbs bless his soul. Although my daughter is SO careful with Trixie and has NEVER treated her roughly, I wouldn't even DREAM of having Kasey at our house "full time" right now. People don't realize having a small one has a HUGE downside as well. |

Last time that has happend too me, i just said : And i bet i wont be making as many Vet trips as you , turned and left !!! |
That is rude...I mean to me any dog smaller than the size of a newborn is going to be tiny! LOL. I wonder what these people would do if they came in contact w/ a bull mastiff? |
Oh, yea they are crazy 4.5 and 5.5 are small to me. I have a 2.5 pound yorkie and people tell me they have one that is smaller. This one lady said she has one that is 1.2. Is that even possible for a yorkie to be that small full grown? I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't care what size yorkie you have there is someone out their that always will tell you they have a smaller one or yours is too big. |
I took Lola to the vet for her 16 week shots & they weighed her & said I should "really moniter her food intake", and cut back to 1/4 cup a day. I asked him if that was safe because isn't she still growing? and he told me that overfeeding your puppy can cause problems & he was sure I didn't want her to be "chunky" or overweight...But I'm sure you are wondering how much my my little girl weighed....3 pounds 1 ounce. Its unbelieveable that my vet, who SHOULD know standard sizes, can say to cut back her food so she doesn't get "chunky". I think she's on the small side, and by no means is she overweight. I am still feeding her 1/2 a day, which follows the guideline on the bag of Royal Canin. |
 OMG - this is just too hysterical. My Oliver is a whopping 14 lbs. I wonder what they would say about him! lol. When I get those kind of responses, I just say he's a TeaPOT yorkie. Boy...you should see their faces! :D Priceless expressions, and usually, they don't know what to say! lol. Some people are just ignorant! |
I am so sorry you had this bad experience. We are all laughing, but it is a sad day for Yorkies when 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 lbs. is considered HUGE! I would hope that maybe these people are ignorant (meaning lack of knowledge) and will learn. |
I guess if it made them feel superior because they're dog was smaller than yours, they don't have too much going for them. People like that are to be pitied. Nothing you could have said would have gotten through to them anyway, so you may as well have bitten your tongue. Some people are just too dumb to get insulted. |
Unbelievable. I have a 6.5 pounder, so I suppose by those people's idiotic standards he's humongous  !! It's ignorant people like these that keep unethical breeders of tiny yorkies in business. Sadly, it is the dogs that suffer in the end.:( |
