Anyone in Ohio? Used to live in Ohio? Hey Everyone! Well, I'd like to get some info from anyone & everyone I can. My fiance & I are looking to move out of California. As much as we love it here, housing prices are completely ridiculous. $500,000 and up for literally, a shack He works as a lineman for S.B.C. (telephone co.) and would need to transfer somewhere where he could keep his job. We've been looking at moving to Ohio. He's been researching housing out there and it's in a range that we can afford. I've never been, he has, but it was a long time ago. We're planning to take a trip out there soon, to check it out, but can anyone give me any info on Ohio? I think pretty much the whole state is SBC territory, so anywhere SBC is, we'd be able to move to. I'm in school though and we'd need to be near a university so I could finish up. Anyone have any suggestions on cities? Schools? Do you like living in Ohio? What are the pros/cons? Any help would be appreciated

Awesome! Thanks for the info Rhonda. My fiance is at work right now so I couldn't ask him what part(s) of Ohio SBC is in, so I just assumed. I've never even been to the east coast before, farthest east I've been is Nevada So I'm sure it'll be quite a change. And I love the cold. I'm originally from Alaska, so I'd rather be in the cold than the 110 degree weather we have here for 3 months... Is Ohio pretty 'flat?'

Hi Gidgetsmom, thanks for the response. We're not sure on an area yet, as he needs to do a little more research into housing costs/nice areas/schools/ect. Do you have any recommendations? We're living in a pretty small city right now (pop. 70,000) and I think we want it to stay that way. We come from Los Angeles and can't stand living in a huge city with traffic. We're actually thinking about buying some land and building a home. I want horses where ever we move.

Geauga county might be a good place. It is close to Kent State main branch and there are other satalitte branches. I have 4 acres, we had a horse but sold it and I might get another one but I'm so busy right now. We have fun. we are in a snowmobile club. There are 52 miles of trails around here. We boat in the summer small lakes and Lake Erie. We have alot of camp places, so we go camping with the yorkies of course. Where I live its 35 minutes to Cleveland and the same to the Warren Youngstown area but I have the county setting. I live on a dirt road and no one bothers you when you ride an atv or dirt bike down the road. It is cold and alot of snow in the winter.

| PinkMartini--We too live in N.E. Ohio near Youngstown State. It depends what you are looking for. The closer you are to any city, the higher the cost of living. Where we live we are 1 hour from almost everywhere-from Cleveland, from Akron, from Pittsburgh. 3 hours from Columbus which is truly wonderful. Its definately a growing area. In Cleveland the town of Solon is extremely beautiful. So is Lyndhurst. But a bit pricey. Kent too is a great town. Its a bit older though. But there is soooo much development everywhere. I have a ton of clients though who work in the city either Cleveland or Pittsburgh, but live in my area because cost of living os soooo cheap compared to anywhere else. You can get 4x's bigger house in my area for the same price in Cleveland and have a very small home. Please do your research though- Any questions- I would be glad to help!!!! Mandy PS $300,000 will buy you a 5 bedroom house. Probably close to 3,000 sq. feet. Taxes are very cheap and so are utilities!!!!!!!!!! ( in my area where I live!) | Thanks for all of the info! I totally appreciate it Got a question for you all in Ohio... What 'natural disasters' occur in Ohio? Here in California we have earthquakes (which I am deathly afraid of) and droughts occasionally. So I was just wondering what you all have there? |

We usually get really bad thunderstorms with the occasional tornado warning, but the tornados rarely happen. Along with storms, you get flooding if near a river or a srtream. Every so often, like every 5 years, we may have a very small earthquake-usually 3.0 or less. But other than that-not too much happening around here. Oh--in the winter lots and lots of snow. We are actually under a winter storm warning for Sat & Sun and its April 23!!! The past few days, its been in the upper 70's and into the 80's. And now we are supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow!!! Thats Ohio for you!!!! Mandy
