| Puppy Survives Eating Metal Tent Peg IN their line of work, vets have come across most things. Three-month-old Disa, however, was something else. At first suspected of suffering from a stomach upset, the Staffordshire bull terrier had actually swallowed a 27cm metal tent peg almost as long as herself. The potentially deadly lunch was discovered by X-ray, the puppy was given emergency surgery and has bounced back to health Her owner Peter Jones, of Rotherham, south Yorkshire, said when Disa started being sick, he thought food had upset her. But when her condition worsened, he took her to the local pet hospital. He said yesterday: "I was shocked when the vet rang to say they had discovered a tent peg in her abdomen." Veterinary surgeon Liz Airey said: "I've never seen a case like this and I've worked in small animal practice for 15 years. We suspected a foreign body may be to blame but didn't expect it to be so big. " http://www.theadvertiser.news.com.au...%5E912,00.html |
