| Do you really know anyone? What if you thought you knew someone and found out later you didn't know them at all. ... I met someone on a chat and thought I kind of knew this person only to find out this person was pretending to be someone else. Once it was explained to me I understood why this person did what they did, but now I am wondering if I know anyone from chatting. ....How can you tell? Anyone ever had this happen before? If so what did you do about it? DO you understand their point or do you not trust them again? Does anyone know how to check someone out? I need some input here. |

| unfortunatly, you never know who you are really chatting with. i think this forum is pretty good. i've run into weirdos online. a good rule of thumb is not to reveal too much personal info. |

| Oh I would never give out personal info... But I would like to think you can get to know decent people on line, rather it be in here or some where else. |

| To me it doesn't matter if you meet a person at a park or chat or..bar or wherever.. you never know what exactly the person is really like..... Just have to be cautious .. anyway.

| I would like to think I am cautious, and I guess it doesn't matter really that the name was actually different then what they said in the beginning. But what if it was someone on here for instance? |

Although I did see on one of the news shows where the cops were on the Internet pretending to be young boys in order to lure pedophiles. (You wouldn't believe who they caught-a rabbi, teachers, just plain ol perverts!!!!!) So sometimes I guess there is something to be said about actually seeing a person.

| Makes ya wonder, Huh? It's sad that you have to weigh everything and wonder, but these days you just can't be too safe.

| I am a domestic violence counselor.. so... I see people having really rough time with a long time partner.... 10 yrs.. 15 yrs.. 20 yrs... When people start dating... the relationship seems to be so perfect and nice... but then... things can go really bad.. and it is definitely not survivor's fault.. so.. you never know how the abuser turns out.. So.. this is actually a scary world.. Sorry.. to talk about something depressing!

Actually, it's gotta be so easy for mean spirited people to pretend and hurt people on line. That's why it's been years and years before I joined any chat or posts. This is the only site I participate in because I feel everyone here is genuine. That why I only trust secrets with my Girls - Dogs are incapable of deceit!

| It is true, sometimes you never REALLY now a person. A close friend married a girl that was about 11 years younger then him. They didn't date long, but their families have known each other for a long time. Her family was big and did everything together and was big in the church - his family was fun loving and crazy - liked to have a good time - they were complete opposites. She was always prim and proper, never left the house without makeup or dressed up, had to always look her best and have the best of things - he liked to camp and have the guys over, pass gas (whatever the guys think they have to do), etc. They were married for only a few years (had a daughter not long after they married) when she was arrested for stealing money from where she worked. She stole money (a really huge amount) for 6 years (they had been married 4 at the time). He never know because any extra money he knew of was said to have come from her at home business (makeup). So, she lied to everyone, stole money, and put on a huge front for the years that we all knew her! Talk about shocked!!! No one ever could imagine her doing this and for this long. She even had our friend going to counciling soon after they were married, trying to change him into the perfect husband, when she was the one who needed to be trying to change herself!!!!

| Wow that is an unreal story but it does go to show you never know about people. I have know people on the internet that say they are someone and turn out to be someone else but no one ever got hurt as it was just to cover up their true idenity because they didn't want anyone to know who they were and they said this way they could speak freely. |

In this case, my friend always told me to get into this side job of selling this make-up (won't go into which one it was) because his wife made so much money - HA - the only money she was making was what she stole from where she worked. The sad part (well, he's a great guy and is trying to work it out - don't know many that would have) but he had to sell all of his stuff, she kept just about all of her stuff, he had to put his house on the market (his before they were married) and they moved in with her family! They both had brand new cars/trucks and guess who had to let his go??? HIM!! He even has had to double his hours to come up with extra money, since she is not working and can not get a job. It is crazy.......course, I bet this next court date, someone will be going to jail...but you never know! People are NUTS!!!!
