I thought these creatures only came out at night ? |
You are really brave bc I would have peed my pants as soon as I saw the thing. |

I WAS Scared at first till I watched him take the biggest pee all over my front door area.... and waddle away like he felt SO much better ! I've honestly never ever seen one.... |
be careful with those rodents, they can be dangerous and poisoness too. |
YUCK!!!!!!! That's GROSS!!! |
OMG!!! I thought they only came out at night too. I've heard they can be bad news.. What a sight tho  |
Yuck! I probably would have slammed the door so hard and quickly that he wouldn't have had a chance to pee... He'd have gotten slammed in the door... LOL They are gross and they can be mean I've heard.. |
Ewww. Those things sure are ugly. |
Haven't ever encountered one during the day, so your vistor may be sick. We have them here. I live in the 'burbs, but possums are alive and well. We used to leave our garage door cracked for our kitties to come and go, their food was out there too. One time we caught a possum munching away WHILE kitty just WATCHED  Another time, we pulled up in the driveway....here comes mama possum under the garage door then quickly following....3 baby possums. Guess she was teaching them where the easy food was. My father and step mother had them come INTO the house by way of a dryer vent. They were finding possums individually, and generally new poops indicated another visitor to look for. Now one time, they knew one was in the house, but hadn't discovered it's hiding place. My step mother pulls open a dresser drawer...guess who POPS up? Yep, Mr. (mrs?) possum. My step mother said she almost had a heart attack. And you think possum pee on the porch is bad....she had to wash everything in the drawer :D |
EWW! Now, I love ALL animals but, those are thee Ugliest things! I had one camped out in my trash for months, my neighbor caught him in a live trap ,and I didn't ask what he did with him after that. I would take the trash out and he'd move or his beaty eyes would be glowing at me.and you can imagine how many times I about filled my underwear!.And they are MEAN! I was always afraid Bailey would run into him. Luckily, your girls were not at the door with you. That could have been ugly. We have tons here,, and the correct spelling~ FYI~ is "Oppossum",,which I have NEVER understood. |
I remember seeing several during the daylight hours as we walked to school because the kids would throw rocks at them and sometimes kill them. Me and my friend would cry and try to get the kids to stop because it was horrible to see. But yes, they are typically nocturnal but some do show themselves during the day. Only you V would have one christen your porch :D . Sorry but I just have to laugh :rofl28ib: |
Oh well ...you guys made me feel SO MUCH BETTER   lol - I had no idea they were so common...shoot - I've never even seen one at night but you're right - they are UGLY suckers - but I sure couldn't stand it if someone tried to kill them - I wouldn't go for that at all.... :( I just watched him waddle away and the next time I saw him ...he was at my neighbors front yard :D |
Another FYI~ When they are out in the day, it is very abnormal and it is usually because they are sick, or possibly rabies, stay away from them or call animal control, My other neighbor had on in her garage, and they had to come out and get it for her. |
My sister has them in Florida. Coming from New York, she's seeing a bunch of critters we've never seen- she actually even thinks the possums are cute!! She was so depressed that her little buddies didn't come out when my bf and I were visiting. (Beleive me- I was fine with it!) That's quite an interesting start to your day, though! |
Piggy Possum! What a little piggy possum for peeing by your house! :D |
I don't know what part of Houston you live in, but I have friends that live in the Bear Creek Area (Hwy 6 and Clay Rd, Westside), and they get them in there backyard all of the time. One time my friend and I were cooking outside on the grill one evening, and a mommy possum with all it babies walked right past us like they owned the yard. They are a ugle, but it was kind of cute see mommy and babies. Also, my mom lives out in Katy, they see them all the time, but not during the day. |
Gross I saw one ambling across my back yard a few weeks ago it was so ugly and slow! But it was dark out. I had to wait 10 minutes to ley Maya out to make sure it was gone. She goes in a little fenced in area. |

That definitely would have scared me... I can't believe he peed all over your front yard! LOL He just wasn't expecting anyone to walk outside, I guess! |

never dreamed I'd be washing possum piss off my porch - I'm a CITY GIRL ! and Misty - you're so right - another reason to always be UP TO DATE on shots ! I'd hate to see the girls near one and now will be on the lookout even more in my back yard. |
I would've just "calmly" called "Possum Wranglers"!!! Yeah, sure!!! I would have been mortified! Do think he was sending you a message .... peeing on your porch?? :) Seriously, I would keep an eye out in back when the girls are out there. Wouldn't want them to get hurt by a rabid possum! |

Actually, with all joking aside...if I walked out to a possum, I would probably pee on my own porch. :embarasse |
I hate those things. We have trapped so many of them and the next thing I know there is another one in our yard. I live in the city so I dont know where they all come from. I used to try to keep fancy goldfish in my garden pond but one always gets in it and kills them. |
