Our lab, Rusty was tied up outside one night and he was barking his head off. Megan looked out the window and there was one laying in the drive way. We brought Rusty in and called the animal control officer. We thought it was dead. By the time he came out it was GONE! He told us that when they are threatened they pee all over themselves and then "play dead". He said that is where the term "playing possum" comes from. Once they aren't in danger any longer they escape. So, your possum probably was sick or something. They usually only come out at night. |
EEEW! I love animals, however EEEW!! I am completely terrified of thing's like that!! We live near woods and I've been told that we have them as well as bats! |

Hey that is really gross about the pee on your porch. Be careful of those possums!!!!!!!! There was a racoon in the tree right next to our front door. I took KimMee out there to get a better look and it charged us. Me- running in flip flops with KimMee climbing to the top of my head. My husband was LHAO |

LOL Vilette, get the Pinesol out! They usually are noctural...but if the food source is scarce...they will come out during the day. We have tons around here....I used to bring the baby possums home when I was little...to my Mom's horror! He peed on himself because you frightened him...I'm surprised he didn't play dead! Francie |
I would have ran for the hills!!! Hate those things... |
I'm telling you.......I KNOW I would have peed myself!!!!! Just tonight, my daughter and I were outside with our 2 dogs (Yorkie & Aussie) and the Aussie was digging by a tree. I watched him and then saw him turn around with something in his mouth. He dropped it and it ran. I went over there because they were having a stare down. When I got close the little rodent started charging me with it's mouth open. Of course, I screamed like a girlie girl and ran. I turned around and saw the dog with it again. My daughter headed up to look and it charged her too. I was so worried trying to get her back that I didn't notice I hadn't really moved and it ran all the way up to my foot and all I saw was teeth. Now, I could be exaggerating because in a moment of fear you see all kinds of things. I honestly don't even know if it had teeth. My dog grabbed it again and this time it bit him in the mouth and he yelped and let it go. So now, I have to capture this thing and ask my husband when he gets home what it is so I know if I need to have my dog vaccinated. Now for those of you worrying about now, my daughter had the Yorkie in her hands at this moment and my husband was due to pull up in the drive in a matter of minutes (so it wasn't like my dog was going to have to wait for hours to find out if he was going to live or not). Capturing it was comical in itself. I didn't think it was a rat but didn't really know what it was either. It ended up being a gopher. Never have seen one of those though. I wouldn't allow my husband or the boys to do any harm to the creature so I took it over to our neighbor we don't like and let it lose in their yard. But that scared me enough and it was just a little creature. |
Oh My Goodness!! That would have scared me to death!!!!!!! How freaky!! :p |

Villette, you should have sent them over to your favorite neighbor!!! |
Oh my, I am behind on the posts today, LOL! I have been @ work setting up my new office so this is the 1st time today I was able to sneak into my coworkers' office and sit down on her computer during her lunch break (hehehe). GEEZ girl I would have freaked out too! In the CITY no less! We had groundhogs and possums and stuff (a few but not many) in the country where we lived in TN....but here pffhhh, I would be just as shocked as you. Sully says he'll be right over and he and Chanel will do some teamwork and scare that rodent off for good! He says that if growling and barking doesn't work, they can kill it with kindness by asking "wanna play? wanna play with us? Oh come on, wanna play with us?" until it gets so annoyed that it leaves. :p |
Do you personally know Renotta Oliver? Do you personally know Renotta Oliver and have you "checked her out" as to her reputation and history as a breeder? The fact is, I do and you (and others - in a recent postings to the website) have said some things that don't jive with what I know from both personal and professional experience with her and her furbabies....It saddens me to think that people would speak out with an opinion and make it sound as if it was a fact in such a way that might damage someone's character and reputation in an undeserving manner... :( I invite you to fully discuss this with me either though this website or personally: My e-mail flevans692@AOL.COM Sincerely, Kimberly Evans |

We have a funny oppossom story. We had an outside cat that had kittens. We had a couple of big dogs that we were afraid wouldn't leave the kittens alone so we put the kittens in a rabbit hutch that didn't have the legs on it. We fixed the door so that it was only wide enough that the mother cat could get in and we set her food inside the cage so the dogs wouldn't eat it. We came home late one night and my husband put the mama cat in the cage and locked her in (he didn't have much light when he did this). Well, the next morning when he went to open the door there was a oppossom in the cage with the mama cat and her kittens. The mama cat didn't look any too happy!! We had quite a laugh over it!! I bet nobody in that cage got any sleep that night!! |
