So, My Car Was Stolen, and How Is Your Day? Really goooood day over here. So, my car was stolen in the middle of the night from our garage (which was open bc we'd had a cable guy over in the evening to fix our cable, and we never shut the garage, grrr!). Also? Yeah, I had my wallet in my car at the time...so my license, IDs, credit/debit cards, health cards, money, etc etc etc....all gone. SUCH A FUN MORNING OVER HERE. Had to make a billion phone calls to deal with it, have the police come, now have to go rent a car for I don't know how long. I guess after 20 days, they declare your car a total loss...but I want my own car back! :( To add insult to injury, our PC keeps just powering down all of a sudden on its own, without warning - like 6 times today - ARGH! I think our fan is maybe going bad, but I have no idea! What a day... |
Oh my, what a way to start your day. It isn't bad enough your car was stolen but your wallet too... talk about a double whammy.!!! |
For a lack of better words... this suu...cks! I'm sorry this happen to you, I know how you must feel, this happen to us too but we got our car back 3 weeks later but it smelled so bad I think some homeless person was sleeping in it. Get this, the thief did something to ignition so that another thief could not start/steal the car. Damages was $$$ I hope you have a spare car, insurance coverage and/or eventually get your car back. (((((Hugs))))) |
Oh NO, I am so sorry to hear this. What a major inconvenience and total feeling of being invaded and violated. Grrrr, too bad the watch dogs didn't alert you to bad guys in your garage :( |
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles this week...I hope they find your car! |
What a mess, it's hard enough trying to figure out what was in your wallet but your car too! I hope the police catch that jerk. |
I am so sorry this happened to you. Can't believe they had the nerve to go into your garage. It must be the times...I mean when I and my siblings lived home...there was no garage, lived on a corner with a Corvette, Trans Am and Formula in the driveway. I sure hope you get your car back safe and sound. Such a shame the way things are going these days. |
Oh No! I am so very sorry - what a awful Monday - hopefully they will find your car and all your things! |
I know it sucks to go through everything because of this but you and you family are OK and that is the important thing. The thought of someone being in my garage while I am asleep is very unsettling. I usually don't even lock that door because the garage door is closed. Material objects can always be replaced. |
I am so sorry for you!!! Just the effort to call all the people canceling cards, bank accounts, .....they are always stealing stuff from people's garages around here, that is why I got those laser alarms! One goes right across the driveway so if anyone walks up my driveway, to either get into the back yard thru the gate, or try to get into the garage, they break the laser beam and the alarm goes off here in the house. I have a couple of yorkies that sleep in the sunroom, and they are ever diligent about hearing ANYTHING in the driveway or at the gate, but OMG!! I dont know what in the world I would do if they took my car!!! Makes you feel soooooooooo violated! |
Looks like you got a case of the Mondays! (Sorry I couldn't resist. :D) I'm so sorry! This sucks! What a nightmare with your wallet being in there too. I never leave my purse or wallet in the car. How can you get a rental if you don't have your ID? |
What a Monday Ann, so very sorry for what happened to you. I can't imagine the pain you are going through with not only the car loss but all your wallet stuff:-(( Again, so sorry, ((oxoxox)) |
That really is s*cky.... BUT! Instead of saying how sorry I am for your situation, I'll list positive things! 1. No one got hurt. Not sure if you lock the look that's connected to the garage but those burglars could've tried getting inside. 2. Your furbutts weren't stolen! 3. As pain as it is to replace all the stuff that got stolen, at least it can be replaced. :D Regarding your pc... is it a desktop? Could be the fan like you said or the RAM, power supply... If you have a old desktop you don't use, try switching out the parts. Have you tried running malware/spyware? |
Oh, wow Ann that is terrible!....I'm glad they didn't break in the home. I understand how this feels, been there a couple of times. It really makes a person take a closer look at how vulnerable they are in their home and how much more you can do to eliminate some of the vulnerable areas . I have cameras installed here and in another home I had intercoms installed so I could hear things out in the garage. One night we were startled awake when the garage was broken into and the car was pushed half way out. Some people just use baby monitors for this purpose........I hope they find your car soon. |
Oh poor you! Hope things get better. |

Been a stressful day, but really - it could've been soooo much worse. Worse things in life could happen like health stuff or whatnot...and, we're all safe and sound. But man, what a big hassle. I want my car back, I really love that car :(. |
Oh man! That really is horrible. I'm so sorry. |
Ouch I never lock my garage here. Maybe, I should start locking it up. |
I am so sorry this happened to you! I hope you find your car soon and in the shape it was in before it was taken. Hope you got everything else covered that was in your billfold. Such a pain to do all of that. |
Oh, Ann, I'm so sorry to hear this. And your Yorkies never heard a thing? Guys must have scouted out your home, knew to be extra quiet so as not to disturb sleeping dogs, which is occasionally possible. Even dogs can't hear everything when they are sound asleep. Sure glad these guys were just car thieves and didn't try to get into your home!!! That's so frightening to think they were only yards from you as you innocently slept - and thankfully they got the car and purse and just left. Still, be vigilant - cops told my sister after a jewel robbery that thieves will often return within 2 - 4 weeks for a second go around, just about the time people start to let their guard down and about the time many victims have replaced the stolen things or bought themselves something really special as a way of feeling better after a robbery! I can't imagine how you felt when you discovered your whole car was gone! I sure hope they find your car quickly, as long as it's not damaged, or never find it, whichever would benefit you most. Try to stay strong and don't forget - be on the lookout for people lurking about or parked down the street for the next few months. |
I am just so sorry that you have to deal with all of this! In an earlier life I dealt with these sorts of losses for an insurance company, and the overwhelming response from most folks was just the violation of the feeling of safety. Make sure to change or add to your locks--just in case. I hope that your car turns up soon, but as many have said, it is "just" a car, and way less valuable than you and your family. People are way more important than stuff! |
Yep, totally sux:eek: But....everyone and every Yorkie is fine , Lost/stolen billfolds are, like you said, a real hassle, but can be dealt with. Be safe! |
Wow, so sorry Ann, big pain in the butt having to cancel cards, reporting drivers license stolen, Worst yet, to have someone enter your garage and steal the car, just wow. Believe me, you DON”T want your car back. Some years back my car was stolen from the front of where I worked. Several hours later I received a call asking if I had a car stolen. The thief after breaking the driver’s side window then ripping out the ignition and hot wiring the car parked it on a street filled with stores. A store owner spotted the broken window, saw the ignition was ripped out, he found my insurance card in the glove compartment. My last name is very uncommon, this was before cell phone was even a word lol, so he looks in the phone book and there’s my name. I went with my mechanic to get the car. Mechanic hot wired car to get it started, I had to drive my car while my mechanic drove his, I had such a feeling of being personally violated, I couldn’t wait to get out of it. After it was repaired and road ready I couldn’t stand to be in the car, and I LOVED this car. I had the interior detailed, the thought of a strangers butt sat in the seat I was sitting in freaked me out. I had to sell my car, that’s how personally violated I felt. If your car is found I pray you can handle it better then I did. At least there was no hassle on getting the rental. So much stress in one day. (((HUGS))) |
I'm so sorry, Ann. I'm really glad that you and your family weren't harmed, but it's such an awful feeling to have this happen to you. Please take care of yourself. I hope tomorrow is much brighter for you. |
Ann, I'm so sorry this happened to you. It is so sad that people have to steal from good people like that. You work hard to have things and just like that someone steals them. I am glad they didn't come into your house. I think I would ask the police to keep watch on your house for a while. Hugs. |
Oh Ann, I am really so very sorry for you. That is really very violating and so scary that it happened so close to your body and family! when my car was stolen we had left it parked at my fathers place of business (usually a fine thing to do) while we borrowed a big enough vehicle to visit the zoo on my beloved's birthday with all the kids. We were just shocked when it was not there upon our return! Honestly though the purse feels so much worse to me!!! I have also had my window smashed and purse stolen and that is so seriously awful and personal to lose your purse (aka..brain extension)! I hope you didn't lose a bunch of cash or anything terrible like that :( it's those pictures and sentimental things that are the most heartbreaking. When my car was finally found (it was abandoned within days but due to a less than thorough officer finding it, I didn't get a notice until at least a month had passed- and it was from the towing company who had the sense to check the vin number!) it was disgusting, full of beer cans and lice spray and quite obviously had been camp for homeless people. It was full of stolen tools and had been smashed into a guard rail totally destroying the front end and abandoned only a few miles away from my home. We did not have full coverage on te vehicle so it was just a loss- not a fancy car but the only one I had to transport myself and my five children to school and work- I hope your rental will be covered and your vehicle replaced or repaired upon its reappearance. Ultimately, we got a car that met our families needs better and the timing worked out pretty good. I hope that everything goes as well for you ann, and please follow the urges for added safety- that is terrifying to have had them so close to your home! So glad you guys are safe! Ps- maybe the cable guy messed with your computer lines? I am so not tech savvy, maybe that isn't possible. |
Oh, wow, I'm sorry to hear about your day! How traumatic, annoying and stressful! As you probably know, I have always worked in insurance and all I can say it THANKFULLY you are covered. That would have been extra stressful and traumatic. I'm glad you're okay, though. I hope you get your car back.... Sending good thoughts your way for a better day today x |
Oh Ann, this is a person's worst nightmare, the thought of someone that would steal your car with all your personal information is too much and yet like others have mentioned, they didn't harm you and your husband in any physical way. Glad you have a rental now that will at least give you the freedom you need. Did the police look for fingerprints, this probably was not the first time, I suppose they just jumped in the car and took off so there wouldn't be much in the way of fingerprints. Hope they took it for a ride and left it somewhere however it's your purse I'm more concerned about. Oh dear, why do such bad things happen to such good people? |

I totally hear you about being the lookout - I feel like they could come back, ya know? Such an odd feeling. Quote:
Thanks everyone, for your kind words -- it's made me feel better, and I'm also surprised how many others have also gone through it, wow! |
Ann, I am so sorry you are going through this. :( I'm mad and frustrated for you! I'm thankful that you, Tony, and the pupsters are all safe and sound, but grrrrrr! The nuisance of taking care of everything that was in your wallet, and missing your car -- I totally get you about your car (mine is now irreplaceable). I bet the thieves rolled your car out of the garage, down into the street before starting it -- another reason your dogs probably didn't detect any sound. That is what they did to us when we lived in Scottsdale, on the Ranch. A neighbor happened to see the men and called our house, waking up my parents. Dad ran outside in his underwear to chase them. The 3 thieves ran off without our car and were arrested a couple hours later trying to rob the A&P grocery. They had guns! I'm so glad you are safe and I hope brighter days are ahead for you. |
