So get this....2 detectives stopped by my house on Thursday to gather more info about the crime. Apparently, the thief got out of jail on home arrest, BUT, they don't put the ankle bracelets on at the jail. Instead -- the criminal is responsible for going and getting it put on -- HELLO??!! Anyone see a problem w/ this system??! So of course, he just blew it off and went right back to stealing and robbing -- so a warrant was out for his arrest due to the bracelet and then he was caught thieving. The officer said the upside of this is bc he committed a felony while on release, he will now for sure do significant time - so that's good. But seriously, wow. What an awful person.

Well, the insurance company cashed out my car on Monday since it was never found. It was an okay/fair settlement. We were hemming and hawing over what car to get next...were caught btwn getting brand new, vs used. In the end, we decided to get my all time fave car in the world - the older, more classic body-style Land Rover Discovery!! Woo hoo! It's always been my favorite car, but I've never owned one bc I always went more practical...but we thought, why not? It's older, it has a lot of miles, it could come w/ problems...but we went for it nonetheless. And, I still have money left over from the buy-out in case anything goes wrong w/ my new classic toy. Attaching a couple piccies....isn't she kinda fun!!??

It's an oldie! A 1996 - almost 20 yrs old. I think it'll be a really fun car though. They can be expensive to fix, but we'll see what happens. It's in amazing shape. Are you also a fan of Land Rovers?

Yeah, if I wanted to engage the diff lock or whatever or switch from H to L, there is a really funky way to do it w/ this car. I still need to figure it out properly, but for now just having it in H is fine. Doubt I'll ever need to go into L, to be honest. But hey, at least I LOOK LIKE I CAN :D.

On the legal system...I won't even go there except to say common sense is nonexistent!

Yes anything 4x4 or old. Anyone can have a new car but the old clean ones like that is a hard find.

Same here. I just love the really old Landcruisers, old Ford Broncos, old International Harvester Scouts...and all stuff similar to that boxy look; but the Land Rover Discovery is probably my all time fave. Do you have any fun old cars?

Never known a Land Rover owner who wasn't totally in love with it. Congratulations on your new, tough baby you can go anywhere in. I've always loved classic body styled wheels - my eyes just eat them up! They look so cool anywhere.

I've been in two of that version Discovery before. One was my A hole ex bf. His was in good condition, but I don't know the year. We went off roading quite a bit. The other one was BIL's and his was a POS. But then again everything he buys (used cars) always are. :rolleyes: He had a problem with the suspension. It ended up going out eventually and it looked like a low rider.

The newer ones aren't that great, esp the cheaper LR3. My sis had that one and always complained about it.

Ah, what a shame to ruin a wonderful brand like Land Rover if there are more than just your sis' with problems. I've always known one or two co-workers or friends with Land Rover's and they all almost cried when they finally ran the tires off them and had to trade them in. It seems so many of the old, tried-and-true car companies are having the same kind of complaints - newer models not as reliable as the old versions.

Well BIL had the older Discovery 2 and he was the one with the problem of the suspension, but I think he just bought a dud, just like all the other used cars he buys. He thinks he's getting such a deal but it's only bc no one else would buy it.

LOL - I've known a guy or two like that - that get such great cars but wind up with them always being towed to the shop.

He has three sitting in his driveway right now that he said were great deals and he "can make money off them!" :rolleyes:
