I Am REALLY Old!!! I was just watching some of the New Years Eve Celebrations on TV......I am getting tooooo old for this stuff.....I see absolutely NOTHING socially redeaming about all these male singers, flopping around and singing with one hand firmly clasped around their family jewels, like someone is going to run off with them......then the females seem to have an insatiable need to rub their behinds up and down on the men.......Lordy! Then I found on TCM, what a REAL singer/performer does!! The King of Rock and Roll, the all time great....my man Elvis on TCM.....Elvis on Tour!!!! As I am watching, it is a conglomeration of appearances from all over, all around the USA!!! THIS is Rock and Roll!!!! |
Ha! I'm watching the iheart radio music special. I absolutely love rap and hiphop music...but these people can not sing well live to save their careers! And many of them don't even sing along with the backing track, they just dance around and shake their ass. So much of todays music is so autotuned and digitized that with your eyes closed, you wouldnt even recognize the "singer". |
I'm 24 and hate most modern music. I listen to the award shows and stuff list performers and I don't want to hear any of them. I mostly listen to classic rock, but I like 50's music and some 80's-90's music too. |
Don't feel too out of it, Judy. I saw that, too, with the young man grasping his testicles in one hand and a young woman who twerked her buttocks at the camera throughout the entire "song" and changed the channel after I'd seen enough, wondering how that is ever considered "entertainment" or even socially acceptable for a mixed TV audience that includes young men and women, even kids. Wonder what is considered too raw or crude to show to the public on live TV and where will it all end? What will the next generation of "entertainers" feel they need to do to express themselves? |
Um, what about Michael Jackson? I think he invented ball grabbing. But I'd like to add... I hate pop music and top 40. |
Oh, no one's forgotten Michael Jackson's need to grab his own testicles to get attention and plenty complained at the time when he did it live on TV but his audience should have known he would do weird, crude things. But others have picked up where he left off and now TV is running their need to try to shock (and disgust) live on a New Year's Eve show aired early enough when many unwary individuals and families with kids are watching. Lots of parents let kids stay up and watch NYE shows but after this, I bet at least some will be a little more discriminating what they let their kids watch on NYE. That group with the twerkers and the crotch-grabber was just plain repulsive trying so hard to be sexy and shocking. I just wonder when crotch-grabbing and butt shaking, bumping and thrusting won't be enough for them anymore and they will escalate to worse in the name of expressing themselves while "entertaining" the unsuspecting on live TV. |
I ended up watching the show with Carson Daly, the music was pretty good, especially Lady Gaga with Tony Bennet and Seth Macfarlane (family guy creator), I can't believe how well he can sing. I think a lot of guys do the crotch grap thing to keep their pants up. |

Judy, I was right there with you watching the Elvis tour, were you one of the 19 watching lol. I have the TV guide down loaded on my computer, it shows how many ppl are watching what, don't know if it is a local count or state wide. I was NEVER a Elvis fan, I had 2 45's of his, "love me Tender" and "blue Swede Shoe's" lol I do like "I Did It My Way" by Elvis. I saw him on his first appearance on the Ed Sulivan show lol. I must be getting old too if I sat and watched Elvis lol, but I did enjoy it. Michael Jackson was my boy, my son as a young boy and young adult had ALL his records, his crotch grabbing was a suck my breath in lol, but still my boy, he was a fabulous performer. Madonna picked up on the crotch grabbing, now that was gross lol and her pointed breast attire . I must say, over the years I adjusted to the music industry ways of entertaining, After Michael Jackson and Madonna nothing today freaks me out lol. HAPPY NEW YEAR |

A million people in an area from early in the day without a Toilet or let out to use one. Of course the police were being careful but couldn't they have brought something in for them to use. |

We flipped threw all the NYE shows because we wanted to see the ball drop and the fireworks, the options were Carson Daly, Ryan Seacrest, or Kathy Griffin. Carson had by far the most tolerable group. |
Every year it gets worse. I used to love watching the old Dick Clark's NYE and a couple others to enjoy. I ended up watching Titanic on DVD and then watched the New Year come in. |
Nothing surprises me anymore. Lol. TV is out of control. It will continue to get worse because we accept it as a society. It's sad really. And Judy if having good taste is old then I am right there with you! |
Too funny LOL. That is so funny. You made my day. Guess I'm getting old right there with you". Happy New Year Quote:

I guess I'm older than old. I went to bed at 7:30 and arose at 7:30 am. Then I watched the Rose Parade from the start for the first time ever. All the crotch grabbing and butt tweerking - umm umm. How does one expect young people to ignore these antics and not emulate them? |
I just watched the Rose Parade. Now watching Billy Idol opening for the Winter Classic. Old dude can still sing and rock it out! |

Elvis I had to ad one more thought, I remember staring at Ekvis on the Ed Sullivan show My mother was horrified, and the Television would not show below his waste! I guess times are changing |
Another oldie here. I watched the 5 and 6 o'clock news then watched the Hallmark channel till I fell asleep around 10:30. Elvis, I would have watched but didnt see the listing. He was my favorite for so many years. So, tragic. |
You are not old! We watched Dick Clarks (Ryans) Rockin New Years Eve and I was laughing at my Mother-in Law and my DH. They watched and complained the whole time about not understanding the words to the songs and of course the costumes. I love to see how different people dress when performing. Not that they really have taste & style but I think they are trying to be trend setters and sad to say that some of them are pretty successful at it. As far as music I like it as long as I can dance to it. My husband just shakes his head at me because I know the words to most of the songs that were played last night. My brain & soul do not know how old I am. Anytime I get a chance to shake I will. Doesn't matter if it's Elvis or New Direction. I can do without the crotch grabbing but having two brothers growing up I wonder if these guys on TV maybe have an itch they need to scratch? Anyway stay young no matter what kind of music you listen too! |

Maybe the Tony Bennett/Gaga part was pre-recorded before an earlier audience, like some of those NYE performances from L. A.? |
Ok so now my 7 yr old nephew is singing that stupid song! His older brother was saying why they put that on at 9pm. And he said no one wants to know what you're going to do w butts, esp of fat people. Lmao. He's11. |
What's sorta funny is just about a week ago the NFL fined Marshawn Lynch $11,000 for doing a split second, hard to see, mid air, crotch grab during a touchdown. This is the same Seahawk player that has been fined $100,000 for not talking to the media. That's right, for NOT opening his mouth and for NOT saying something stupid he was fined $50,000 last year and another $50,000 this year and $11,000 for grabbing his crotch momentarily in this weeks game. The NFL admires but hates this guy. Wk 16 Can't-Miss Play: Beast quake 2.0 - NFL Videos |
