I am 24 and didn't know who over half the people were that I saw on some of the NYE specials... sooo it's not just you... LOL... I'm not a prude at all, sexuality, profanity, etc doesn't bother me, it's more the quality of the music and the performances... so many "artists" of today just plain suck! I love certain hip hop etc, my play lists go all over the place on my iPod, I can go from listening to Eminem, to Backstreet Boys, and Michael Buble to Elvis and Frank Sinatra.... I have an appreciation for almost all music (except head banging rock stuff, LOL) but anyway, yeah most music of today kind of sucks. It's almost always autotune or they're lip syncing.

And with MJ at least his crotch grabbing could be justified, he was so insanely talented and put on such a great show, I think it was just all part of the 'moment' lol.

:D My kids love MJ too (but not as much as me!) and when they were little they used to ask me what he was doing - they were FASCINATED by his crotch....:p

But I just wonder what it is about some entertainers that makes them need, in some terribly strong kind of way, to reveal or touch/clutch onto their sexual or reproductive body parts when in the act of "entertaining" in song, dance or acting and what it is in their audience that enjoys seeing that. I think of what need is back of that and never can come up with a good answer and wonder where it will end, say in 10 years from now. Will out and out masterbation during performing be next? How many of us will be okay with that?

Just my opinion but, I don't think there is a need to do it in most cases however it just draws attention and people watch. That means more music sold $$. Maybe the ones doing it now learned it helped M.J. sell his music?? Who knows??

So it's not what most of them say it is at all - artistic expression - just a "grab"(sorry!:D) for still more attention and money? Do they need still more attention and money that badly? And when grabbing is not enough to stir the pot with TV audiences, don't you wonder what is next in order to help sell their music? Or will we one day be watching more and more aggressively suggestive behavior and where will we, as the American audience, draw the line in the name of artistic expression, drawing more attention or selling music?

I wish I knew how to highlight the sentence i wish to quote. The last sentence in the first paragraph - did you see Miley Cyrus "dancing" with Robin Thicke to the song Blurred Lines? If that wasn't vulgar then I do not know what is. Even the audience looked shocked. Have you read the lyrics to that song. Filthy.

I well remember that and don't know if we discussed it here but many of us did on Twitter. Sad how badly they need to do what they do, whatever the reason. Whatever happened to just vocalizing/emoting a song, maybe with great dancing ability, without overt sexualization of it? Do entertainers ever think their audience might have their own imagination, abilities to experience?

I think the main difference is that MJ was actually talented.

I feel sooooooo much better, knowing I was not the only one that found crotch grabbing repulsive and the lyrics of some of the songs these people are spitting out, are so nasty and degredating to women.....and women think being humiliated and defiled and physically as well as emotionally abused, is sexy and makes them desirable!

I used to work with this sweet, quiet, Christian lady....her son, 20-something, is one of those people that works the "music" at wild parties, working those computer generated musical sound makers, using his hands to twist records back and forth on turn tables.....and he made a CD of his "music" to use as advertising his "skills".....like that PitBull guy.....anyway, she was sooooo proud of her son, he routinely gets gigs in Las Vegas, she brought my son one of her sons CDs....she was passing them out proudly to everyone.....

I brought that home to give to Jimmy.....he came from his room and asked me, "Mom, have YOU listened to this CD? This is horrible! They are saying stuff I dont know what it is". I should have listened to it first, but I figured coming from a strict Christian home, and his momma passing it out all over the hospital, all over her church, to everyone she knows, I ASS-U-ME'd it was acceptable......WRONG!! No socially redeeming value at all.....horrible, disgusting, vulger, filthy verses, words and sex acts I had never heard of, let alone my autistic son!!! I went to my co worker and asked her if she listened to her son's CD before she passed it out all over her church and work/co-workers....obviously she had not!! Sooooooooo embarrassed when she did listen to it!

LOL, too funny! it use to be called "grinding" but not they call it "twirking" which in my younger days did the same thing but only to my husband and not to the extent of what you see today. It just way too nasty now a days.

Being old had nothing to do with it Judy it is more about having class which a lot of the musicians today lack considerably. In todays music scene a lot of the artist just take things too far with their rubbing and booty shaking and they just don't understand what kind of impact they have on our youth. It's Saddening!! Thank god my kids are not so impressed with it and I don't have to worry about them picking up any of their dance moved from the raunchy rap artist of today. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Old? I think not. Modesty is an old-fashioned concept though and, if we're honest, has been on the outs since the swingers challenged it in the 20's. Even Elvis was considered distasteful due to his own gyrations and style of singing which was a departure from the mainstream teeny-bop of the 50's.


I am a huge proponent of "less is more". I never show cleavage, I never talk about women things in "mixed company" or drop the F-bomb in mixed company even when I stump my toe and want to curse all of my ancestors and future descendants...lol


My husband calls this type of thing "class". Now, I think you can be modern and classy at the same time but that shouldn't have to involve gyration and nakedness!

Try Turner Classic movies, I think you will love them. I didn't care for the old movies on TV but these are wonderful. Hope you can get them on cable in the UK, you are right the rest of TV is pretty much dreadful.

Well, now I hear that one of the NFL football players from the Seattle Seahawks has been fined by the league for grabbing his own crotch after a touchdown - for the second or third time!!! What is it with younger men these days and grabbing onto their own private body parts in full view of a huge audience?!?! Seems like most men I know like more feminine parts and don't want an audience.

Yep, these young men, athletes and rap artists these days are obsessed with their plumbing and showing it off. Don't know why I just don't get it. Why? It's like saying "I have a big willy and here it is . . Enjoy" Yes its seems as that would be something to celebrate but not in public. Save that crap for the bedroom where it really counts.

I used to work with a male nurse that was also into rock and roll ....had a band that played locally....nothing he could make a living at, but he was having a ball.... He used to bring all the industry magazines to work to read during his breaks...he had one there that had TONS of guitars of every brand and description, pictured and all about them.....and in the back of the magazine, there were all kinds of advertisements for all the "necessary items" your rock-n-roll star needs.

Included in those necessities, were these "appliances" the rock-n-roll star could insert into the front of his pants, so he would look like a BULL! They had all these pics of these things.......all different sizes, they looked realistic when tucked into those tight fitting jeans or skin tight leather pants......I was absolutely stunned and amazed.....I have been rather sheltered and did not really know, nor was I actually interested in, learning about such appliances.....but I have never forgotten how repulsive and stupid that seems to me....and then, coupled with all the crotch grabbing and actaully extensive holding onto their "packages" during almost the entire song, I wonder if maybe it could be because that appliance is falling down the leg of those pants and they have to grab onto it and hold it in place....pants are all baggy and slouchy now, so there is not much to keep that "package" tucked into their slouchy, "crotch to the knees" pants!

I knew women wore "falsies" and wore padded butts in their panties but fake male "members" is just too much!!!
