| Sometimes it seems there's a fair amount of that going on on this very forum, people being what I judge to be unnecessarily disagreeable and ugly to one another. Seems as if some enjoy it! Reminds me of what seem like otherwise 'normal' people but let them get behind the wheel of a 4000 lb. vehicle and they act like children, drive like maniacs, cutting in front, cutting you off, suddenly speeding up to prevent you merging into the traffic from an entry lane. And these people get out of their cars and act otherwise fairly pleasant.

People on this forum just like other forums have different opinions.

Disagreements and differences of opinion occur all the time here and are normally responded to with interest and helpful or at least pleasant or good-natured comments, even when parties violently disagree yet no one feels they want to leave the forum afterward. I'm talking about those comments which satisfy the meaning I linked to, who just seem unnecessarily disagreeable for the sake of disagreeing, nitpicking even and whose comments even cause hurt feelings of some. I've read some have left this forum due to what they felt were rather nasty, even ad hominem 'attacks'. Honestly, some comments seem to me to almost purposefully harsh and persistent. This forum has shrunk from the size it used to be and some have said they've heard those people left due to feeling attacked. I'm always up for a good disagreement and I've learned a lot during some of them, others I saw too much real anger and hurt and what I would call trolling from continuing ugly remarks and insinuations on a supposedly informative discussion forum on Yorkies at times when a particular poster or group of posters keep on being particularly mean-spirited. We've even had a thread from a YT moderator started to address those types of objectionable comments and some have been suspended or banned. One male poster I used to particularly enjoyed reading left this forum and stated he was leaving for what I'd term being trolled. A good-natured comment can still show disagreement without hurting or outright angering someone else.

I believe the topic here has been lost on you; but, you have posted today with an apparent ax to grind. Gotta wonder if it is your ax or someone else's as I have not really had any "discussions" with you lately. Perhaps you might want to be a bit more direct rather than "insinuating" things. This constant complaining about people running people off is really old...people don't use these forums the way they used to because they go to Facebook and other social media. Anyway....WAY off topic.

Glad you called our attention to internet trolls and glad their numbers here seem to be tiny. https://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ge...rd-others.html

You posted a thread on "Internet Trolls" and it linked to a good, informative article. The topic made me think of all the members we've had here who've left this very forum, many with stated reasons as they felt attacked or hurt. We've had members here suspended or banned things got so overheated. A moderator had to post a thread essentially begging us to be kinder to one another in our comments, our forum has shrunk over the years and I realized many of us have been trolls here at times, far beyond disagreements but turning into disagreeable, bad-tempered, hostile responses, overwrought and some even personal. You yourself just commented on the "constant complaining" of people being run off so apparently it would seen they still are leaving, otherwise why has the forum gotten so small? Whatever would make you think I had an "ax to grind" with you personally over that? You brought the topic up and I commented on it, never thinking of grinding any axe but reminding those of us who've gone near-postal at times in various ways how recognizable it is when you see it and hoping we can change it, make this a welcoming forum, not as tiny as it is now. We need to grow this forum but if you maintain that trolling no longer goes on here and this forum stands troll free now, I'll take that statement at face value, though I see you bumped this thread after your response to me for some purpose. Linda, I've always felt you're a good-hearted, generous, kind and very helpful, sweet lady by nature, who's nursed ill/injured dogs, helped so man with their questions about dog health, etc. and always been incredibly and personally kind to me. I'll never forget your sweet kindness after my lumpectomy. I felt a kinship with you. What in the world is going on with you with this "ax" business? I've never needed anyone else's lead to comment on anything, as my history will show. I hope I've always done it without undue rancor or any hostility. You posted the thread on Internet Trolls topic and I simply pointed out we've had our share here. You even agreed with me and seemed to think I don't know the all meanings of the word "disagreeable", which I commented on, axe free I thought. What in going on with you?

| In this day and age with social media people are joining groups through there like on Facebook where it is more convenient then coming to a website. I am part of many Facebook groups relating to yorkies and there are thousands of people in those groups. There are only a few posting here mostly because of that reason. The post made about being nice was done a long time ago when lots of people were posting here.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yes I have wondered where all the posters have gone. This forum has definitely shrunk. I still come here as in the past I've enjoyed some of our discussions and links to other articles. I like to read about yorkies lives. How they travel participate in life with their owners etc. l

Wiki defines internet troll much better: "In Internet slang, a troll is a person who intentionally upsets people on the Internet by posting inflammatory and digressive messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses[2] and normalizing tangential discussion,[3] either for the troll's amusement or a specific gain." and "Media attention in recent years has equated trolling with online harassment." Basically trolls are just ugly people at heart. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll | |
