Just have to say THANK YOU both for mentioning Coronado. We went to the Hotel del Coronado yesterday and LOVEDlovedloved it! It was built in 1888 and is stunning, just stunning. We could not believe just how huge it was to be built so long ago. We had a drink and some oysters and walked about the hotel and grounds. Gorgeous. We have a real love for old, historic hotels - so this was just perfection.

We may go the USS Midway today before we leave SD.

Mission Bay I just beautiful It is really close to the freeways. Seaport Village is a nice place to go and walk around. If you like the bay, you can rent a kayak and cruise around. The hornblower gives a really nice bay tour. Fashion Valley is close and that is fun shopping. I love San Diego. We live out east and love coming to the beautiful beaches. Little Italy is close and has really good pizza and food. Enjoy your visit!

Right past the M idway museum on the water there is a statue of a sailor kissing a girl WWII. We had dinner at a restaurant close to there. It was good but not great.

Yup, Mission Bay really is gorgeous. So nice and cool w/ the breeze! I've actually been cold/chilled here since I'm so use to Phoenix desert weather, lol! I'm so bundled up compared to everyone else, lol. It's just lovely being around the water when you live in the desert every day, such a treat.

Oh, yes, is that that famous statue? Did that original kiss actually happen in SD then? If so, I didn't know this!

The story as I understand it, is that it was created after a photograph was taken in Times Sq N y on V J day celebration. Others claim, since the Woman didn't know the sailor, it was an assault. Hmmmmm

The kiss happened in NY and the names of the nurse and sailor are known but I don't recall them. A google search would reveal that.

We never did make it to La Jolla . Next time though! We don't live too terribly far (5 hr drive), so we'll be back.

I lived in La Jolla for 12 years and miss it every day! It's one of the most gorgeous places ever. For next time, I highly recommend La Jolla Cove for awesome ocean views, the Pannikin for coffee/tea and a drive up the coast to the north county beach towns - Del Mar, Encinitas, Cardiff by the Sea

I can't resist - here are a couple of pics of the LJ Cove area. One is Shell Beach, taken by my friend Bob just recently, the other is the main beach at the Cove taken by me in 2010. I used to swim waaaaay out there, the water is so warm in summer.
