To be fair, she didn't actually degrade anyone's religion at all. She was merely discussing faith/blind faith and cited religion as an analogy/comparison since religion, as it pertains to blind faith, is usually something we all can digest and understand. Discussing blind faith as it pertains to religion isn't degrading anything, it's just a discussion of blind faith (not that religious discussions are allowed here, but I'm just clarifying).

I frankly find all the comparisons of this man's story, having blind faith in his story equivalent to blind faith in a singled-out religion's foundation document insulting and demeaning.

Which singled out religion are you referring to, bc there is no mention of any one religion anywhere...I just checked the entire thread, including the deleted posts. I can assure you there was no mention of any specific religion. This is why we don't allow religious discussions here, bc people can't actually discuss anything when religion is brought up, it upsets them too much...and when emotions are that vulnerable, no reasonable discussion can ever happen.

The posts were apparently deleted that referred to "the bible" and "that book" in another post right after it, which also denoted the book(paraphrasing here as I didn't Print The Screen) having bad things in it and a revered foundational figure in more than one major world religion taking his child up a mountain to kill him. Both posts are gone today. The posts clearly referred to and singled out a single religion.

Anytime anyone compares faith in one's religious beliefs to that of simple beliefs in a story in the news today or belief in a political leader is very like the hyperbole of comparing one political foes to Hitler or college football players or other groups without much power to slavery. It's over the top, overly simplistic and painful to many to their very soul, and usually best left unsaid unless one wants to be considered insensitive and hurtful.

Between 12 years of Catholic school and seeing men travel to the moon and back alive...... I've come to accept that nearly anything is possible.... I'm giving this guy the benefit of the doubt because I find his story inspirational.... even though there are very few details available about his story, it's simply not in my interest to doubt it.

Life of Pi was a good movie..... for those that haven't watched it... the msg it gave me was: you can choose the painful truth or the fictional, happier story. It's truly up to you, what you believe......

Just want to reassure those who've asked privately (or are about to ask me privately), there was NO single religion mentioned by anyone in this thread. No one mentioned Catholicism, Lutheranism, Protestantism, Judaism or anything of the sort. The bible was mentioned; mentioning the bible does not denote any one single religion. Hope that helps clarify.

This side convo is the perfect example of why we are unable to discuss religion here. It seems the only way we'd be able to have a discussion is if we all agreed to the very same exact tenets, and that's not a discussion at all. When questions/doubts/curiosities aren't accepted/allowed in a discussion, a discussion can't actually occur - and that's what we ran into in the past that resulted in the current rule. Hope that also helps clarify why we don't discuss it here, for those who asked.

Can I ask, why the posts were deleted if it was just the bible mentioned, and not religion??

I didn't delete the posts, but my guess is that bc the bible, faith, and religion were mentioned (again, not a specific religion)...it was seen as a discussion heading in the direction of a religious discussion/debate.

We're pretty cautious about deleting religious stuff. Sometimes, people will just post a religious quote from the bible and even though they're not starting a discussion about it, we may still delete it bc it could be offensive to others and/or start a debate.

There are new photos of the man after being released from the hospital. He's now clean shaven with a short haircut. The most striking thing to me is the lack of a demarcation in the skin pigment and texture between the exposed and previously covered areas.
