Sounds exactly like me. I was 58. NEVER been sick a day in my life. But my world sure came crashing down. But I also battled the long road back. My doctor also told me another cigrette could mean death.

I am 46 and me and my husband quit almost 3 years ago. I quit cold turkey, but he took Zyban. Our doctor told him if he was serious about quitting then this mild anti anxiety pill would work. I could not believe it. I had tried to quit unsucessfully about 4 differant times because my husband would start up again and I couldn't stand to see him smoking so I would start up again. When he started taking the Zyban it calmed him down enough to quit for good. If we can quit so can you. Don't give up

ok my friends, first day without smoking... i am now chewing the gum, i want one so so bad right now i cant take it...im at work and its so tough...help!

My FIL is laying in ICU right now with lung cancer. Went in on Wednesday. He's been in and out of the hospital so many times during 2005 that I've lost count. Hard to say it, but I honestly don't think he will make it through 2006. He's in his early 70s and has smoked since his teens.

Cancer is a HORRIBLE disease. My hat is off to all of you who are trying to quit. Good luck, and if you need another cheerleader, let me know.

That is so great to hear!! darn I wish my kit was here maybe I will go and get that gum and start now!! hopefully it will be here Today!!

have you downloaded the quit timer? it will count the days & min that you are saving you life by not smoking and it gives the hours you stoped, days etc!
It's really a great divice to watch and encourage you!

ok hate to say this, but i just blew the whole darn thing...i got stressed out and i had my boss get me a pack and i just had one.. ooh i hate myself for that.. i have no control. once i get aggravated thats it... this really sticks.

I will also try to quit with you. Im 46 yrs old and have been somoking probobly since around the age of 14....On December third of this year I had a heart attack so I really really need to quit! Stop smoking now! I am not an avid stop smoking crazy person. But I do strongly recomend one think about the future if you expect to be around. Don't do as I did...listen up! You just may not be as lucky as I am. I am back to doing everything I did before the heart issues. I feel great! But again....listen up. That next cigarette could be your last...and I mean that literally. It could be the last thing you ever do!

Wow, This really hits home with me because of my recent heart attack at 46yrs old. I have 2 children one 16 and one 18 and my 2 pups to think about too. I really HAVE to quit! Thanks for the post.

Lexi Rae, dont get so down on yourself just start over again.....I need to hear more about these aids that help you to quit. What is Zyban? Im gonna look up some websites that have info on helping to quit. I tried the patch and that did NOTHING for me. I need strong drugs i think! lol. Well, Im gonna go check it out and I'll let ya know.

Thats Ok!! Trying is a good Thing! don't beat yourself up!! It's not going to be easy for any of us So Please let us continue to encourage one another because I for one will be wanting to cheat! or fall and run for the pack!! that urge that controls is pretty strong it has had control of our lives for quite some time! this is all we know additction, habit, and wanting the oral fixation :rolleyes: well you know what I mean :p so this is not going to happen over night! it is a struggle just the fact we are even on this thread talking about quitting is the first step! the right step and we may ponder the idea of threatening to quit! Im the queen of this! :( But we take each day as it may come.. we may stop for a few hours and then light up that ciggy, but
we will be cutting back and fighting back, I think the whole Idea is trying to detox and rid our bodies of nicotine and that in itself is not so easy! So my point is Dont beat yourself up because you had a smoke! theres always the next day :confused: wow I just scared myself. Im going to keep my pack around thinking that If they are available and within my reach I might not want them, otherwise I would most likely buy another pack.. so hang in there!
