| Finding Kersone.... and returning her. Keroone is an IRWS that is owned by Kellyn Miller and was sent to Ontario to be shown by her breeder. It is a long story but one everyone should have a look at as it will affect ownership and sending dogs to breeders and show handlers throughout Canada and the USA. Did some of you know that after 3 days in some states that someone can take possession of your dog if they have them or you left the dog with them to handle or back with breeder to show or breed and the AKC papers are useless. Oh yeah I had a hard time thinking this was possible but it is... https://www.facebook.com/groups/Find.Kerosene/ Joyanne

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | AKC was never meant to prove ownership, it's only a registry for bloodlines. If you are using a handler to show your dog, you should have a clear contract. Many breeders who offer breeding dogs insist they be shown first and maintain part ownership in them, but that usually to protect them from unscrupulous breeders. I'm glad Kerosene has been found and hope they can work out their problems, but this is a good reminder to get things in writing.

| It is in writing and she is still with her breeder and not home. Thing is how many of you are aware that not even a bill of sale is or can be enough.... a vet bill and three days of holding a dog is enough to lay claim to a dog. where is honour and trust which is a vast part of doing business in the show world. | Verbal agreements are only as good as the individuals making the contract are honest. Written contracts are only as good as the individuals signing them are honest. In my humble opinion there are more honest folks out there than dishonest. Sometimes it's just more difficult finding the honest ones. |

| Missing the point... you dog leaves the yard and or is picked up... in some states three days and a vet bill that dog belongs to someone else. Might want to check what your state laws are.

| That last statement makes it a little more clear....... When I read your first post, well, I found it a bit confusing. It can apply to more than just a show scenario and therefore can affect more people and their dogs whether they show them or not. Thanks for clarifying! I'd have to look it up for Washington. |

| Well seems rather odd that people that are said to love their dogs are not finding the theft of one not more upsetting but then again it is not a yorkie.... had it been a members dog this been war. When it happens as this is the third time a dog has been taken with contracts in three different breeds to a yorkie remember I told you laws covering dogs in all states are different and you best check it out... this learned by watching a BRT, and aphgan and a IRWS go poof and their owners all but one to date has not got them back. Contracts and chips and registration papers mean nothing best bet is not to let them out of your sight.. And a darn sound reason to spay and neuter cause then no one is interested in the pups they may produce or a show dog.
