| Kinda need advice on a sensitive topic. We'll be doggysitting a friend's poodle for a couple of days. It's the second time. Last year when we had Lui with us, I was kind of concerned because he felt very skinny. Rufus was heavier than Lui. I don't know if it's a poodle thing. Today she'll bring him to our house. My question is: If Lui still feel skinny, what can I do to figure out if he's just skinny or if he needs more food. My friend feeds him some kind of raw food and last time his poop was very runny. Is this because of the raw? My following question: How can I tell my friend that I'm concerned about Lui's weight? It is a very sensitive topic. I really appreciate any kind of help

| I have read in other forums that thinness can be a challenge on raw, especially with the prey model raw. We know a pug who eats raw. At first we were really impressed how great he looked because most other pugs we know are overweight. Now he looks scary thin. Runny poop can be caused by so many things, but is not normal on a raw diet. If he has problems while staying with you, that might be a good place to start with your friend. If Lui's ribcage is really prominent, I would just point it out to your friend in a matter of fact way. Suggest a vet check the runny poop, and the vet will automatically assess the dog's weight.

| If I had a concern, I would definitely voice it - gently and in a non-accusing manner. Perhaps when your friend comes to pick up Lui you can make some casual observations about "feeling his ribs" or noticing that he has runny poo. You would be doing an injustice to both little Lui and your friend if you didn't. Good luck! |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | If you have concerns just say so, also keep in mind too that some dogs have a very high energy level and can appear as if they are not getting enough nutrition when they are. Its just that they burn more energy than another dog that just lays around the house and don't get the same amount of exercise. (mine for instance) They are on a three meal a day diet but because they are very lazy and a bit over weight. A Poodle who is typical a very high strung dog would probably get lot of exercise burning off the pounds. Here is a weigh chart for dogs to give you an idea of the proper body type for a canine. | I agree... your concerns can be said -- just think HOW you are going to say it. Maybe just comment on one thing, like the poo or the weight. If you address too many issues she may feel attacked or be over whelmed. good luck

| And I agree that it's better to tell her than to keep it to myself. If the situation was reversed, I'd like her to tell me.

| Good luck. I agree with the others. If you bring it up the right way, it can be done. I'd definitely say something!
