Teachers are teaching to the "test" because if they don't they will not be rehired. Things like writing and grammar is a lost art. The parents must take more control of what is happening to education and not let someone (Government) who does not know much about teaching make the decisions. Who profits from the test? Not us, not the kids, not the schools... it is the companies who write and print the test, the booklets etc
They are in with the elected officials who are making the test a requirement.
Also, it is changing... lol has been added to Webster! Think of what the kids hear in their music, TV and community... that is their true grammar teachers.
The problems are not just the teachers; it is a combination of parents, community, Government and the changing world. It is hard to have students understand concepts from our generation when they have more power in their smart phones then the first space mission!!! Spell check, auto correct, memory dialing makes our minds go to mush, imho
Well, I am sure I made grammar mistakes in my above rant. I will stop now.

I have some that really drive me nuts:

1) It's "taken aback" NOT 'taken back' (omg, BUGS!)

2) Say 'regardless' not 'irregardless'

3) And lastly, you don't need to say 'With that being said'; you can just say 'That said'

The their/they're, to/too and your/you're stuff can bug me, but sometimes those mistakes are just due to typing too fast or whatnot - rather than being due to not knowing their proper use.

With that being said, I'm still taken back by how many little mistakes are made - irregardless of spell check .
