Thankful for my neighbors

Today my neighbor knocked on my door asking if one of the girls got out. I was holding them both so I knew it wasn't one of mine. I'm thankful that even though it wasn't one of mine that got out, she took the time out of her day to inform me.

BTW the little puppy who did get out, was a Maltese from up the street. We informed the neighbor, helped them locate her and she is now safe and sound. Thankfully we live in a cul-de-sac, low traffic street but I'm a little worried about her because she isn't wearing a collar and I found her outside yesterday too. . I hope they find out how she's escaping!

I hope that the owners find out how she's escaping and block that up quickly too...

That is wonderful! My mental next door neighbor, the cat hoarder (60 or so) has screamed at me that if Huey ever comes into her yard, I'll never see him again. No chance whatsoever of Huey getting out. He is always on leash to go out the door, and we cured the door dashing very quickly. Scares me to death...

Oh no, she sounds like a horrible neighbor! I'm glad Huey can't get out. Ella and Lily can't either, in Ella's early years we had a few door dashing escapes but now it's almost impossible to get out the door.

I am so afraid for or baby girl Sophie. She has escaped twice through the front door when it has been opened to go out or retrieve a package. We have been to training but definitely didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I started with that loud nasal "aehh aehh" noise, which slows him down. He never tries to get out of the basement door now. The only problem we have is deliveries, and since we have sidelights on the front door, delivery folks can hear and see the viciously barking tiny dog and always wait for me to put him out on the deck and close him out before I open the door. The one time he got out with a pizza delivery, he ran straight to the delivery guy for love , so delivery guy picked him up and handed him back. Putting him on the deck started after that. So I guess the door dash isnt completely cured, but controlled.

We have not "cured" door dashing but made it impossible with a baby gate. We always go in and out through the garage door which has a baby gate. At the front door which is rarely used, I either pick up the girls or I put them behind the baby gate in the hallway.

Yes it is! Thankfully, I've never needed the neighbors to tell me that the girls have gotten out but it's nice to know they would if they ever saw either one of them roaming the street. When Ella was little she was a door dasher, so I always SAW her get out.

Viv what great neighbors you have! I am glad she was back home safe and sound. Georgie used to be a door dasher and we used a stern no which eventually worked. I like the baby gate idea too!

With my front door, I have what would be called a medium size foyer, so I use a baby gate that I can step over to get to the door. I don't have to worry about the girl's then.

Like many of the other posters, I too use a gate in front of our front door. I got it from PetSmart.
