| ![]() I started out many years ago with the kennel prefix "Butterfly". A few yrs ago I built my small grooming shop on my property. I call it my "shop" because it's where I do all my yorkie's grooming other than a quick butt rinse in the sink...lol. Anyway I named my shop Dogwood Kennel because of the tons of dogwood trees around it and on my property. I used to do a bit of grooming on the side for toy-med size breeds and I would do it in my own kennel as a side job once in a while. I quickly found that it was just too much on me and my back. Keeping my gang all groomed is a job in itself and I found myself constantly in the shop, with someone's doggie and felt mine were being neglected. So I stopped doing any grooming on the side other than my close friends or family's dogs. I now just enjoy having my own little private place to groom my yorkies while listening to music. I was surfing the net once and I ran across another "Dogwood", then another and even a "pink dogwood" http://www.dogwoodkennel.org/index.htm I immediately thought, I do not want to ever be mistaken for one of these people because I know nothing about them. I just didn't want to step on anyone's toes or use their name when they did have it first. So, Butterfly Yorkies finally stuck for good. (here's my reason...they remind me of a butterfly, as they start out like little black and brown caterpillars and then blossom into a beautiful butterfly" Well, I got a very disturbing email about 30 mins ago and is the reason I felt compelled to write this... An anonnomys person wrote: "What are you hiding from Dogwood? People who change a kennel name are usually trying to hide their bad name and start over with a new one" since it's a hotmail address i doubt i could find out the true identity. I haven't written back. Why should I have to explain myself to such nosey, very bored people? I haven't broke the law. I haven't had any bad reports, and I have a right to make any changes that I please. My first thought was that someone was upset with me and trying to get at me. It is obvisouly someone who has known of me for a few years. I have contracts filed away that have the heading "butterfly yorkies" at the top, signed and dated back to 1995. I placed a few puppies for a couple yrs under "dogwood" because of tax purposes with my ever so small groom business. I also sold vitamins under the same name for Nu-Vet systems as I got a small % of what I sold. When I closed down Dogwood for good, I even made a statement explaining the change on my website and left it there for a good while. Do you think I should explain myself to this person, or maybe just give them a link to "how stuff works" so they'll have something to do! |

| ![]() Robbie, my advice would be to ignore it. There are so many idiots out there anymore. You never know what or who you might be encountering.

| I agree with Karen That person is creepy. Can you imagine having the nerve to ask a question like that? Obviously if they are asking anonomously, they don't have a WHOLE lot of nerve...they just want to be obnoxious. Ignore them. And forget about it. I do love the idea of giving them "how things work" as it is completely obvious they have too much time on their hands! You are so funny, Robbie! ![]()

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() Good grief - Changing names has NOTHING to do with how a business is run. My husband changed the name of his business twice - for reasons that were perfectly legit...one of which was to appeal to a different type of client. what a STUPID email that was - I wouldn't even bother to waste ONE Key stroke on someone like that. The person obviously has a mean streak and WAY too much time on their hands to sit down and write you an email like that. ps...BOTH names are very pretty - I love Dogwood trees - that's my mom's favorite tree and I guess I've always loved them because she does. |

| ![]() What a jerk! I agree with others here, just ignore it. That email doesn't deserve your time or effort. And please don't let it bother you. I think there are some people who just spend all their time looking for ways to cause people problems, and grief. You have already done all you need to do to let people know why you changed the name. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | ![]() I'm sure it was a misunderstanding. I'd send them a link to this and hopefully you won't hear from them again. I also have to wonder how many other people have either written or received e-mails like this because they didn't understand the whole situation and came to their own conclusions. How many times have kennels been discussed here that have changed their names and the worst is suspected. Keep an open mind on this.

| ![]() Once you establish a kennel name it can be hard to change..but why not if you want to do so? I have seen many Dogwood kennels...it is a common name..who would think there is only one, not me. I would always add the word YORKIE to any kennel name..if you come across another Dogwood Yorkies you could have added your state..Dogwood Yorkies NC..but now you are Butterfly Yorkies.and do not need to explain it to anyone..least of all someone who is being mean. I saw a Primrose Dobie kennel..but we both use the breed added to our prefix. |

| ![]() While I agree this is someone trying to start trouble, I would put your explanation back on your website. There is no telling what this nut will be telling other people. When they come looking, they will be able to see your reason behind doing such.? Just a suggestion. Good Luck! |

| ![]() Sometimes there are moments when there is NOT a need to justify yourself. This is one of those moments. ![]() Ignore them all together. ![]() And...by the way, I love how you described your name of "Butterfly". I never thought of a Yorkie this way and you are so correct!! ![]()

| ![]() I know. all of you are right. I haven't and don't plan on responding to this person. They can think what ever they want. I just get so p o'd when people try to intentionally upset me. When I first joined yt there was some person who was sending me ugly stuff on aol instant messenger. It did stop, but i tried everything to find out who it was. There are just people out there who use the internet as a weapon against others because of their own in-security. Really sad. Who ever sent me that email is no exception. |
