I saw on the web a place called Chelsea is going to lose power due to flooding. Is that around Brooklyn or somewhere? Does anyone know what the HMS Bounty was sailing in that storm? Was it a leisure trip or what were they doing out anywhere around that storm yesterday? |
I heard that two cruise ships left port yesterday.... can't recall if it was from here or NYC. Glad I missed the boat, lol. |

Haha! The news again: If your roof blows off, go to your neighbor's house. My neighbor has 2 pit Bulls. I'll be sitting here getting wet, Thanks! |

Here is a NY neighborhood's map. Chelsea is on the left mid Manhattan. I just spoke with my parents in western Massachusetts they lost power about 1/2 hour ago. http://www.citidex.com/map/neigh800.gif |

Uh yeah I wouldn't be going over there either. Nothing against pitbulls but Georgie thinks he is one which is a problem lol |
THAT is exactly what caused all my damage in Ike....the shingles peeled back all the way down one side of my house, down to the decking....and all the rain poured into the attic, soaked the ceiling and walls, and EVERYTHING came down! Once the water violates your parameters, thru the roof or the windows, you are SUNK!!!! Quote:

We are very windy, wet, and cold here in Northern Virginia, but escaped the worst of the storm. The power flickered a couple times. Trees are likely hitting power lines. I was shocked when UPS showed up at my door with a package. Wishing everyone well. This is going to be a really rough couple of days. Hope no one is without power for extended periods (including us!). The doggies are already over it. I don't know how they are going last 3 days without outdoor time. |
Just clicked on EarthCam in Times Square and people are carrying umbrellas and wearing raingear but flags aren't whipping around or even anything blowing when I was watching. Guess it missed NYC. |
Oh no Jeanie it's nowhere near over. |
my family is on Long Island and my sister on the south shore on a canal, in a town called Babylon, two doors down they are taking a lot of water in, she says she thinks they will be OK because they are higher, hard to believe but they still have power, a lot in their town have evacuated. My parents are in a town called East Meadow and I heard that has really bad winds, some of my FB friends that still live there have lost large trees and have broken windows and flying sheds etc. my dad at 85 just bought a generator, not sure what is worse him trying to operate it or them without power, typical their cell phone is not turned on and we can't talk with them, they are probably OK, but talking to them gives me some comfort, here in MI we have 50 MPH wind and it's scary so I can't even imagine what it must be like for you on the east coast. please be safe everyone. |

Make sure your Dad has the power generator properly set up because of the exhaust fumes. I remember a lot of problems caused by improperly set up generators and the carbon dioxide fumes when we had the power loss last Halloween due to the snow storm. http://www.pinellashealth.com/PHP/He...or_Dangers.pdf |

just talked to my sister, a lot of her town is under water she has friends that are huddled on the second floor along with neighbors that have only one story, she is still dry. oddly even with the water flooding those other homes still had power but shut it off because of the water. My parents are still not answering their cell ten to one they are conserving electric power, my sister is really PISSED at them for not checking in, we of course are assuming they at least have cell power, but my DH said maybe not, but since I don't get their answer machine I am def. thinking no power. but wish they would pick up their phone, glad you other guys are OK, |
Well so far we are doing ok. We had one time where the power went out for one minute and came back on and we were so happy it came back on. The office doorway does have a decent leak that soaks a big towel every two hours but is running down the door frame so a bucket cant be placed there. Callie could not care less she is curled up sleeping in her new fleece cloud 9. Glad everyone seems to be doing ok. |
Am watching the special hurricane coverage channel on Direct TV and Jersey has a lot of water and Long Beach, NY, Nassau and Long Island Sound flooded some areas it sounds like. Still watching the EarthCam in Times Square and streets still partially wet but some areas drying, no wind. They showed the water in Battery Park really rolled back out with low tide. Looks about like the flooding we had in Fort Worth Spring of 2011 I think it was when some areas had 13' of water, trees down every where and flooding widespread, that accumulated from just several hours of rain and wind! Back in NY, there are some blocks burning from a fire in or around Long Beach but don't know what they think caused it but then Brooklyn in general and all around there, Coney, etc., got a lot gof trees down, flooding, general mess from top to bottom. |
The HMS Bounty I think capsized... they pulled most out... the Capt is lost, one crewman dead. All had survival suits on. Sometimes bigger boats do better out at sea... sometimes not. Prayers sent for all in harm's way... Sorry I've been gone... DH came home early and I passed out, then we ate and here I am. House is still here, TG. Looks like electric's out across the road... still hearing the wind and still raining. Pups don't get why they can't go out.... |
Glad you were able to rest some, kjc. Probably very tense and got relaxed momentarily and went out cause you needed rest. Glad you are okay. I can't help wonder what the Bounty was doing in that storm or enough near it that they got in so much trouble! You'd think they would have put her to port in a quiet area, well out of harm's way, or anchored offshore in a safe place. It's odd that this happened to her! |
Good luck from New Zealand:) |
On down from Long Beach, there's fires in several sites Rockaway Park, Queens, according to WABC - New York tonight. Firefighters have been trying to save people from the apartments and homes. No word yet whether the fires are from downed power lines or gas explosions or what. Firemen can get to a large fire they see in the distance for reasons the reporter is not making clear. Lower Manhatten is dark, has flooding as sump pumps off. |
Well our leak just got a whole lot worse the ceiling has many lines and big spots of water leakage! I moved everything electronic and important out of the room. Been in this house like two weeks ugh. |
Good luck to all who are in the path of this storm, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I had to evacuate with my 4 doggies from our Maui home Saturday night, due to the tsunami warning (caused by earthquake in BC). Always, scary, but that was the 3rd time in 2 1/2 yrs. so I've got the drill figured out. Luckily there was no damage and we returned Sunday after overnighting at my daughters. Stay safe everybody. |
