This very same thing happened to me on my work computer. It disabled my security program then just had a hayday. Our tech spent all day on my problem too and had to do a complete windows reinstall. Thank goodness we back up to a server because I lost everything on my hard drive. My tech thought the bug came from dogpile.com and also warned about facebook being loaded with viruses. i dont use dogpile anymore and am super cautious with what I click on on Facebook. I've heard good things about Matt and would try him at home if I ever need a tech here.

I wish I knew, I would avoid like the plague He said I could have picked it up anywhere, just by going to a site. Lots of sites are infected and they aren't even aware of it

I bought and installed Norton 360 at his recommendation. The Norton that comes free with my Comcast internet is NOT a full version. You get what you pay for, ha ha

I don't need the backup or other features 360 offers as I do my own backup on my external hard drive but the package I do have has kept me safe at all kinds of sites - I go everywhere! I occas. get this Norton notice popup that they have just blocked or prevented this or that and apparently they have so far. Since I've had Norton, no problems. I got my killer virus before when I had McAfee that came free with my DSL. Its free version was no good for bad infections either! No more freebies for me either! Glad you are bug free now!

Just a note on websites - I had a big issue with both my work computer and my home computer (while I was working at home) at a previous employer. The work computer I had to send away to be fixed, and it happened again at home while I was working, so I was able to call our work IT people and have them connect to my computer and look at it. He said that basically I could have gotten it from anywhere, and he told me something that is really important to do is to always update Java and other programs like that when you get a little popup on your computer saying they are out of date. He said a lot of the new viruses somehow exploit the older versions and get to your computer that way, from any website, any ad or banner on a website, or whatever. He said it would be almost impossible to pinpoint where I got it from!

That is good advice, thank you, will do that. My daughter's laptop wasn't being updated at all, windows or anything. She didn't think it was important

I can't say enough about updates either. I update every popup I need & don't accept those errant things from whoknowswhere but all the regulars I do immediately - right then. Most are set to go ahead and install w/out telling me but some I don't accept like from all the iTunes offerings as I don't use some of those things now - all the rest I get ASAP. I use IE9 & got EMET, too. I thought it would be automatic with a Windows Update, but apparently not! There is an EMET beta version I passed as I'm going to wait until no longer beta and most of bugs gone. The safest way to go in as strong a protection program as one can afford, frequent updates & go get downloads that aren't automatic that close windows of opportunity for hackers and malware. Hope every one stays safe from the blackhats!
