| ***What Cocktail Parties Teach Us*** Here is a really interesting article about the capacity of our brain & focusing, multi-tasking, selective hearing - and seeing. Ever wonder why you missed something so obvious sometimes? Wonder why we can't really talk or text & drive safely? Read this article - it's not very long. What Cocktail Parties Teach Us - WSJ.com

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | Very interesting!! It reminds me that I need to be "present" in all that I do and focus on the important things. Great article!! Have you seen the "invisible gorilla experiment?" The first time I saw it I was not told about the gorilla and I completely missed it. After watching it the second time around I couldn't believe that there was a gorilla running around and I never saw it. If you haven't already, try it out on your family and see what happens. Thanks for sharing!

| I haven't seen that one but saw something similar & was focusing so hard, I missed the actual test person. But then, according to the program I was watching, so did the majority. I still felt like a fool but now this article makes me feel better. This speaks volumes about why it is so important to not multitask while driving or doing other potentially dangerous things! I'm going to look up the gorilla test. Should be easy to spot him now! 8)

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | Yes. You will see him now that I have blown his spot! LOL! You should try it though on someone else. It was referenced in the article. It does speak volumes about not texting or talking on the phone while driving. I am a firm believer in one thing at a time!! Also, I am working on trying to be more present in all my actions. It is hard to put aside my "things to do list" and be fully present throughout my day during my interactions with people. My list may not be an auditory or visual distraction but it is definitely a distraction. I started yoga and it is helping me to be a little more centered. Thanks again for sharing!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yes I am terrible at multi tasking. It is too exhausting for me to try to drive and say speak on the phone. I do very very well at single task focus kinds of stuff. And with that I can rapidly complete a task and move onto the next one.

| That is too funny....but sooo true! I remember saying things to my kids like...I can't hear you over the music or I can't hear you over the tv....but in a cocktail party atmosphere when everyone is chatting & dishing and you wanna tune in to the biggest gossip who is 1/2 a room a way...you can!!! Amazing how the brain can work...when it wants to .
