Ok Ladies, let's hear your fave makeup items....again

Now that I have a little bit better budget, I wanna upgrade my makeup. What are your favorites, whether it be drug store or department store?

I am particularly interested in waterproof/smudgeproof liquid eyeliner.
Mascara for people with thin lashes.
Good foundation with medium coverage.
Best brushes.
Eyebrow pencils.

I found a Maybeline eyebrow pencil that was a good copy of the Diorshow brow pencil, and was so happy. Now that I'm on my 5th or so stick, the formula is WAY softer now! So it's not lasting long at all, and going on too thick.

I only use sheer powder now, but for going out I need a good foundation.

Recommendations? :)

KazzyK810 04-21-2012 04:40 PM

My makeup bag is such a hodge-podge of highend department store and lowend drug store items. I just stick to what I like.

For foundation, I love Chanel Mat Lumiere. My daily use mascara is Maybelline Great Lash. Evening mascara is Rimmel Extra Super Lash.

When I use eyeliner, it's Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel.

capt_noonie 04-21-2012 05:42 PM

I saw a new brush style for the Great Lash, it's like a spade or heart shaped. It's tiny so I may try this one out. I need a tiny brush for my tiny lashes.

BabyGirl Rosie 04-21-2012 05:44 PM

Waterproof/smudgeproof liquid eyeliner - I am using a liquid eyeliner from Avon. It is called perfect wear. It lasts a good while and I have been very pleased with it.
Mascara for people with thin lashes-I am using mascara from Avon as well. They have a few good ones that really give you fullness and length.
Good foundation with medium coverage - I use Estee Lauder right now. I have been a Clinque girl for years but they discontinued mine. :(
Best brushes - I use the brushes that come with the mineral makeup you can get at Ulta (Bare Minerals). The brushes are great but I didn't care for the makeup.
Eyebrow pencils - Sorry don't use.

Don't know if this helps.:D

capt_noonie 04-21-2012 06:43 PM

Thanks! I am going to have to take a look at Avon, I keep hearing good things about their products.

jebsmom 04-21-2012 06:43 PM

I have permanent eyeliner. That was the best thing I've ever invested in.
I use bare escentuals mineral foundation and eyeshadow. Also there brushes.
Wash off waterproof mascara from Avon.

capt_noonie 04-21-2012 06:46 PM

Permanent makeup has always scared me. My mom has her eyeliner and brows done. Not that they don't look good, it's just, what if you want to change your style? I don't want my brows to look dark bc I used Shiseido brow pencil before and ALL the time people were asking me if I had tatted brows. They said they looked too symmetrical for me to have drawn them. but I didn't take it as a compliment. My brows are very sparse.

shelimcallister 04-21-2012 06:49 PM

Brushes- I would go with a set from Sephora (best prices and quality)
Eye shadows- Mac!!!!!! Mac has great make-up..especially eye shadow
Foundation- If you go to the Mac store, you can try different types from sheer to full coverage. Otherwise, Bare Essentials is very good.
Mascara- I am using Lash Blast from Cover Girl and have had many compliments. My lashes are long but very thin.

I hope this helps!! ;)

Bobbi Brown is very good make-up as well. Expensive though.;)

Ugh. went to put in an order with Avon after reading reviews for hours, and the site is now down for maintenance!

Harrysmum 04-22-2012 01:04 AM

Good morning! :) Apart from Avon - do you have The Body Shop over there?

Their all-in-one compact face base is fantastic. You can use it from the compact like a powder, or damp the sponge and it goes on like a foundation - you can kind of adjust the coverage.

All their products are brilliant, hypo-thingy, not tested on animals etc etc. Their coconut body butter is amazing too - I could eat it... :D Sally x

gumbysuz 04-22-2012 01:20 PM

I love Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer w/SPF 20.
2-3 times per week I use Latisse to thicken my lashes. When I wear mascara it is Maybelline Lash Discovery (has a very thin brush for individual lashes). Clinique also makes a tiny brush mascara for lower lashes, but I often use it for upper also.

dlaureanonw 04-22-2012 01:28 PM

Bare Essentials are great products, Chanel foundation for whatever your skin type. Loreal foundation is also very good. Mascara Maybelline they have a great variety i use Falsies.

Since you mentioned Mac, do you use something under the eyeshadow to make it stay? My Mac eyeshadow creases bad, and I have to touch it up every few hours.

MAC has this eyeshadow primer called Paint and it is basically a miracle worker! I always had issues with my eyeshadow staying on. Who wants to take all that time to put it on and halfway through the day it's gone???? Not this girl! Bare Essentials also has an eyeshadow primer which works just as well. The MAC primer is thicker and available in a lot of colors:D

As far as mascara I use Tarte primer and mascara and it works great! I bought it one day in the little size just to see how well it worked and I love it!

horsnaround 04-22-2012 02:39 PM

Bare minerals when I put make up on :)

Yes we do have Body Shop. Didn't know they had makeup, just thought they had lotions and stuff. I actually did end up order a few things from Avon last night. There was a deal of two for $3.99! I got an eyebrow pencil and a lip liner.

How is Latisse working for you? I think if I used it my lashes would grow long, but not in quantity, and bc being longer, they'd be heavier and be even harder to curl.

I tried Lash Discovery before and found the formula was too thin, or the brush too small, that it was not apply enough, if any, product on my lashes. I did like the small brush though. I ended up using that brush in a different mascara.

I used to love Bare Essentials and not I hate it. I don't know what happened, but it just looks so cakey and fake on my skin now, whereas before it would disappear and look great. So strange!

Is the primer greasy at all? All the primers I've tried are so greasy, seems to be counterproductive. I hardly wear shadow, and when I do it's for going out, and I go all out with my makeup. I hate for it to wear off. Esp next week I'm going to a concert, and I"m sure it's gonna be makeup meltingly hot.

Not greasy at all! It's slightly thick and works wonders! They even have a nude color so it doesn't change the color of the eyeshadows you apply.

I'll second that! I have Mac Paint too in Bare Canvas. Love it! It really locks in the eyeshadow.

Yes Bare Canvas that's the nude color. I couldn't remember and didn't feel like getting up to look in my make up case LOL. It's good stuff!

I know what you mean. I'm not big on makeup, but I do wear some because I feel it makes me look less like a child. Not that it makes me old or anything, but just not 13. I made the mistake of going to work with no makeup, jeans, a cute top and my trusty converse, and ever since then Everyone calls me little girl. No one at work knows my name, they just know me as little girl. Anyway, back to make up. Isn't shadow suppose to last unless you spend all day rubbing your eyes? I was so excited to buy my Mac eyeshadow since I finally had enough in my budget to allow for good makeup. I get compliments on my eye makeup, but it irks me that I'll have to buy a second product just to make the first one work. :( I will be trying the primer though.

Do you use foundation all over before applying your eyeshadow? That usually does the same thing in anchoring the shadow. The paint just makes the shadow glide nicely.

Exaaaactly!!! But you and me both know we will buy it anyway.

I think some kinds of makeup makes me look old too. And plus I'm asian so I already look younger than I am. But it's come to the point when my customers (most of who are in high school) are calling me "the lady" instead of "the girl". I guess that's good right? I'm 32.

I use liquid foundation when going out and using a full face of makeup. For everyday, it's just loose powder and no eyeshadow only eyeliner. I will have to look at this Paint stuff.

Ok ladies, so I went to Target and bought the Maybeline Great Lash with the new "heart shaped" brush. It does really get down to my miniscule lashes, but just made me more depressed about how pathetic my lashes are. I should just stick to falsies, WHICH I BOUGHT SOME! :D But if any of you are wondering, for anyone who has decent lashes, I think this new brush would be awesome.

No I don't. I don't own any foundation. I have 3 shades of eyeshadow, 1 tube of mascara, and ...... That's it. That's all you'll I find in my make up bag.

I use Clinique, I been using the whole line for years and I love it, never had a problem, it keeps my skin looking healthy and young..
specially love their line of mosturizers..
eye shadows are always changing and their lipstics last for hours..

Just wondering....have you ever had, or thought about having - those individual semi-permanent eye lashes applied?

I used to have them years ago, when I used to swim in the sea a lot - mascara wasn't that waterproof, and eyelash tinting wasn't 'thick and dark' enough....:D Looking back, they were excellent....:)

That tiny brush may be for the lower eye lashes. Clinique just came out with mascara for the lower lashes and it has a tiny brush.
I have a really hard time with mascara. I have tried all kinds of drug store ones and they dry out and flake off into my eyes by the end of the day and I'm constantly rubbing my eyes, smearing it off and making my eyes red. Its annoying. I switched to Clinique, they have a brush that one side is a comb. Its perfect to brush on and thicken lashes and then comb up and lengthen lashes. Plus it does not dry out and flake off. I do find now though, that 6 months is the longest I'll go on 1 mascara. A new mascara every 3 - 6 months is ideal to keep it from drying out too quickly. I hear Christian Dior mascara is great, but its like $25 a tube. A little steep for me.
