Help!!! Last night there was the strong odor of a skunk outside our house. We figured it was in the woods next to the house....well it wasn't!! The @#$#@% THING is under the house in the crawl space. We found a little space under the heat pump where we think it got in there and have set a live trap. I am scared senseless!! Bogie loves to play ball and he is whining and I am afraid to throw the ball and have him running and jumping, what if he riles it up and it sprays (must have sprayed last night because when the heat comes on you can smell it faintly). I am also scared if the @#$#@% thing chews through the duct work...it could get in the house:eek: Has anyone ever had this happen??? OMG I am freaking out right now. I am tempted to pack a bag and take Jada and Bogie and go stay at our house on our other farm till the darned thing is trapped.:mad::( I am also afraid to leave them here when I go to work in the morning..what if it does get into the duct work and gets in the house...I think I am gonna cry.:( |
We have skunks in our neighborhood also. Smelt one just last night... god awful smell! See if you can put some moth balls under where you think it may have gotten in at. Not too many because the smell of them can cause upset with your pups. But just enough to get rid of the skunk. It worked with the bunnies we had under our shed. |
oh my u need that billy guy from tv. sorry i have no words of wisdom but i will pray it doesnt get in and you and jada and boogie are safe and remain stink free. |
sorry i meant bogie.. try to relax a lil your much bigger and its probably just as scared as you are. good luck. |
Ewwwwwee. Nasty little skunk. He's probably afraid and wouldn't bother you or your babies. I am not sure what it could do to your house. Do you have any PTO you could use so you could get someone out there asap? If you have a man in your life, you could try craigslist for an emergency pest control person to come out now. I would totally be freakin' out too. Get that little @#&*@$! out of there! LOL |
DH just got home and told me to let Bogie play and bark maybe it will scare the stinky skunk out from under the house and into the live trap...we can only hope. |
I don't think it can get into the duct work of the house since it should be all closed. I'm with you I'd be O.U.T. O.F. T.H.E.R.E! |

 I don't blame you Michelle for being upset, and I would call out the National Guard. :p I agree with Jodi that I don't think you need to worry about the stinky pest getting into your ducts or into your house. I hope you can get him out without getting skunked. |
I would not let Bogie out there to try and scare it....he will end up getting sprayed. :( I would be like you...totally freaking OUT. |

This is the time of year that they have babies. Maybe he is a she! You wouldn't have just one under there then. Don't they have like 8 or more babies??????????????? |
You may be safe. I just read they usually have babies in May.:) However, I am offering some help: Skunk Trapping Specialists - Skunk Removal and Skunk Trapping |

I feel for you.:( |
Could it be a female in heat? My friend had this happen to her a couple of years in a row... I cannot for the life of me remember what they did to get rid of it though. Good luck! |
My aunt said they had problems with skunks and they called animal control and they brought out some cages and they caught them. I would be scared too, mostly for your babies because those things carry rabies. |
I had a nice little experience with a skunk in my garage. OMG it is horrible! My beagle trapped it in the garage and barked and barked and barked. And it sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. The old tale about them only being able to spray once is a big fat LIE! I think that stupid thing sprayed 100 times. And yes, the house smelt horrible. We had tears from the odor. Anyway, I happened to be alone without DH so called my daddy at 1:00 am to save the day. He tried to kill it but no luck. Needless to say, the beagle finished it off. And left the body in my garage. It took days to get the smell out. So here is my answer Michelle. Get a beagle! :) Ha ha. Ok, no seriously. I hope it goes on its merry little way and you don't have to deal with it much longer. |

There ain't nuttin cuter than a baby skunk. :D Let her stay and raise a family! |
Michelle, I had a bird fly into my living room and I was just as scared as you! The bird died, and we disposed of it. Maybe you will have the same good luck with your skunk. |
Well either the smell is dissipating or we are getting used to it:( and we are just hoping that it was scared under the house, sprayed and then left. Ain't no way we are getting under the house to look:eek: I am thinking it is not still under there. Wouldn't Jada and Bogie be going bonkers if it was under the house, smelling at the vents or barking. They don't act like anything is out of the ordinary. |

I hope your critter really is gone by now. |

I have the perfect solution! Instead of hiring an exterminator or critter control guy, have Cathy come for a visit. She can say "shoo" to the skunk and scare it to death like she did the bird. :D |
Michelle you have been given such wonderful advice! Mating season, baby skunk pets, guns, traps, and just moving out! Whatever would you do without all of your YT friends and our support  But I do think the best advice given was to call in the bird whisperer. I hear she has been working on her skunk shooing.............. :p |
How about throwing some human hair under there...My Mom does this to keep rodents ..ie...chipmunk, squirrels..etc out of her garden....go the a hair dresser and ask them for some.. |
