True Confession Time - Spring Cleaning We've not had too bad of a winter here in Maryland and it's actually been pretty nice during the daytime lately. I'm getting spring fever and have been in the spring cleaning mode. I'm boxing up and donating lots of stuff and clothes to local charity organizations. I keep a relatively clean house but there are a few things that I only do from time to time. One of those things being pulling furniture away from the walls and cleaning behind and under them. I recently pulled the sofa away from the walls to vacuum behind and under them, oh my gosh! I cannot believe how much crap had accumulated. lol, I found several dog combs, grooming bands, clips and bows and even a couple of old bully sticks. lol I am now working my way around the bedrooms doing the same thing. Dust, dust and more dust! True confession time, how often do you pull your furniture away from the walls to clean under and behind? lol |
I'm like you and always keep things picked up/organized, but I have neglected real cleaning for far too long (Max and Teddy cured me of my OCD :p). I started spring cleaning this week. The dust on my large ficus trees was ridiculous. Worse, I moved a couple of beds to vacuum and found dust bunnies as big as some small Yorkies. ;) I also discovered that I am out of shape. :p |
:D.... I have hardwood floors in the bedroom.... I know what ya mean about those dust bunnies! :D I try to move furniture in the familyroom and vacuum under it every couple of months. The furniture in the formal livingroom has legs that my vac can fit under, so it gets done everytime I vacuum. Thanks for the inspiration.... I need to start doing some Spring cleaning, too!! (maybe AFTER I get back from Moochie and Co  ) |
Humm... clean under the furniture... is that some sort of lost art??? :D I definitely don't do it enough. |
I am part of the "don't do it enough" club. Another thing I neglect are my blinds, I dislike cleaning them so much. |
hmmmm.....moved into the house in October.....so I think that was the last time. I cleaned before furniture was moved in. :P I am actually in the spring cleaning process now though. Its amazing how much random stuff can accumulate in a short period of time! LOL |
We did some spring cleaning this winter but now Im starting to do it again. I got a basement that I need to clear 20 yrs of junk out of. We put things down there and never get into it again. Its time for it to go. I clean under sofas and beds and things once a yr. I always feel so much better after its all done. We also start doing alot outside in April. |
I don't pull the furniture out as much as I should. We have all hardwoods and there are dust bunnies the size of tumbleweeds blowing by. LOL! Seriously, we sweep alot! Prior to this house, I have always had carpet. There wasn't tumbleweeds! It's just crazy. I have a room called "the junk room" - it's the room that everything gets thrown in to when I don't have a place or time to deal with it. I keep the door closed. It's now time to clear out the junk room! It's going to be like shopping. There is some really good stuff in there. My problem is that I have toooooo much stuff and not enough storage. We live in an older house and the closets are tiny. The attic is packed and we don't have a garage - just a carport. I like things neat so this constantly wears on me. I'm going to donate, have a huge garage sale and reorganize! |

All my rooms either have tiny closets or no closets. So there's no where to store stuff. Fortunately, I do have a garage, but it's piled high with JUNK from my last house that needs to be sorted through. We had a big snow storm coming the other day, so I was dragging stuff around so I could JUST fit my car in the garage. I literally just fit the car in...there was no room to open the doors...had to climb in & out Dukes of Hazard style...that's not as easy as it was 20 years ago :p That experience (and the pulled muscles from it) is enough to motivate me to get going through stuff at the first sign of Spring. |
Luckily, we have a Roomba that goes under our furniture, so I don't pull the couch/beds away from the wall very much. I really should run her more often... and we wouldn't have any dust bunnies :p |

I am fixing to do a total spring clean. |
I detest cleaning blinds!! I usually do that twice a year. I have hardwood floors too and will pull out the furniture in the living room about every 2 months. I just vacuum under the beds, don't move those. I really need to move the dressers and chests in the bedroom...I shudder to imagine what is under and behind them:eek: |

I'm just so glad to know that I'm not alone in not moving things around. I feel a little bit better knowing that dust bunnies live else were too. :) |
[QUOTE=Mom to Hot Rod;3836461]Thankfully I do not have a basement, but my garage is pretty bad. In my defense though, it's a combination effort on hubby's and my part. Anytime he sees something to do with the dogs, it goes into my garage, we have separate garages and his garage is his man cave I imagine everyone has one room or garage like that if they have been together any length of time. You just get in a habit of throwing old stuff in there and after awhile its a full junk room. We are really trying to get our house organized so getting it done is a priority. We have an old delapitated mini barn out in yard we would like to get rid of but need the basement cleared to put the stuff from the mini barn there |
Maybe once or twice a year! LOL sad I know... I never have time to do a complete thorough cleaning! I did it maybe 4 months ago and I'll do it again in the near future. I did pull apart our bedroom on thursday and cleaned it very well. I pulled away furniture, dusted heaters and vacuumed the edges of the walls where a typical vacuum session does not get! There was soooo much dust it was crazy! I'm afraid to look under my couches! LOL |
I have been going through the house little by little all winter. We have had a very mild winter. I have been getting rid of everything we haven't used in a year's time, dusting, rearranging, painting etc. I need to shamppo the carpet in the bedrrom and living room and I would like to get some new window treatments and then the house is finally spring cleaned and clutter free. |

Ugh, painting is another task that I really need to take a look at. I painted the family room, dining room and 1 guest bedroom after we moved in. I just did the kitchen right before Thanksgiving. The next big project on our list is our bedroom. It has only been painted by the builder and it really can even be called a paint job. I think they just took primer and power sprayed the drywall with one coat. |
My house is pretty clean. The garage and basement are another story. My grown children think my house is a storage facility. One daughter has a table and chairs, my son has hockey equipment and a million hockey cards stored here. My sister (who moved into a small apartment in the city) and my other daughter are planning a garage sale and guess where the stuff is stored. There is a huge stereo in the garage (I don't even remember who it belongs to) and my husband is a empty box saver (Amazon come get your boxes). |
I may kinda be somewhat of a clean freak, so my house is pretty clean. I'd say we pull out the furniture and vacuum behind it in our well used rooms every 3 months or so. One thing I need to do more is take the cushions out and do under them! Oh, the treasures I find. Apparently that area is the furbutts favorite half eaten treat storage. I'm going to have to start cleaning them out every other week! One other thing, my baseboards! My entire house has oak baseboards aka dust magnets and I have yet to clean them in one day. I still don't even know what the best thing is to use on them. They get swiffered every time I dust, but I've never thoroughly scrubbed them down. I guess I'll add that to my spring cleaning list. |

've read a few articles about paints and the undertones it has and I found several blogs showing before /afters of painted wood trim. I always loved the looks of the painted wood in the blogs but I was sooo hesitant to do mine again... The painted wood in the blogs looked so clean, crisp and bright so I bit the bullet and decided to try it again. Last year I bought a "creamy" white versus a "white" white which is what I had used before. I have now painted all of my wood trim on the lower level and love it. I'm just not sure about the bathroom because of the amount that will be painted. The ceiling is about 15 feet high and it goes almost to the floor and it has some sort of shellac on it......Wish me luck because there is no way I will strip this off if I don't like it..... |
