I just really feel for that guy because I lost my home (lanlord did something stupid) and my job in the same month shortly after getting Kaji. If it wasn't for my mom and dad that took us in, I don't know what I would have done.

I also see this desperation where I work. I work with low income families and they do some things that doesn't make sense. They do it out of desperation thinkig it's their only way out. It's pretty crazy how far people go, and it doesn't make sense to "normal" people.

Yes, what the guy did was stupid. Why kill a healthy dog and then go kill himself? Unless your in he same deep dark place he was in (I'm imagining here) you wouldn't understand. I think there's information missing in the articles and they don't paint a clear picture. I was trying to fill in the gaps with my own experience and what I see others go through.

I'm sorry about your parent. I have a few that did that in front of their 3 year olds because hey had no money to feed, clothe, or provide a roof over their head at work. It's insane and keeps people asking "why?" there really is no simple answer.

I agree, I certainly don't want to blame the guy for what happened. The article says he grew up in orphanages and foster homes, this dog was his only family. I think it takes good parenting to teach good coping skills and obviously he didn’t have any. We must not forget that serious depression is an illness, and it colors our view of the world, and in many cases these people feel that this is the only choice. I also agree with QuickSilver, why is it so easy to put a healthy dog down?
