YT Brides to Be Who here is getting married this year or next year, and are in the middle of planning? I thought I'd start a thread so we can discuss our planning details, our colors, our dresses, our flowers... everything! So tell me about your wedding! Oops... just realized I posted this in the wrong section! Can it be moved to Off Topic Discussions? |
Just engaged and wedding date is set for May 5 of this year. I had started another thread about the Vegas wedding, but looks like family has stopped that in its tracks :( So now we will try to find a venue in our community, which has pretty much NOTHING :(:( and try to stay under a budget of $1500, which is nearly impossible :(:(:( Sooooooo.... ok, I'm venting a little, sorry. I am super happy that we are getting married though!! So far my fiance has bought a really nice suit to wear, but I have no dress yet, and now need pretty much everything else!! |

Oh no! I was reading your thread about your Vegas wedding! It sounded awesome! We toyed with the idea of a destination wedding but my fiance's mom said absolutely not... her daughter had a destination wedding and it was too much hassle and too much money for the family. It is also important to me for my grandmas to be there and one wouldn't come for sure if it was too far away! It might be tough to stick to a $1500 budget! Do you know anyone with a large yard you could have the ceremony in? An old coworker of mine also did a backyard barbeque reception after their wedding. I think they kind of did a potluck for that! We have also bought a TON of stuff on Kijiji. We got vases for our centrepieces, tealight holders for the tables, a cake cutting set, and I can't even think of what else right now! But people will sell things pretty much brand new that they used at their wedding, or even bought and didn't use, and then you can sell it again later! I am hoping to make back a lot of the money we spent on our decor so far. |

My son is getting married on June 16th this year. His fiance bought her dress....i couldn't believe it.....on-line! It was risky but has certainly paid off. Her dress could rival any other costing several thousand dollars and cost only $150. As brides to be maybe you all can help me out. The colors for the wedding are black/hot pink and I believe touches of silver. The brides' mom is wearing black, which is what I originally thought of wearing. She has her dress already, I do not. Should I continue with the idea of wearing black also, or should I try to find another color? My problem is, most dresses that are hot pink are nothing a 52 year old woman should wear, IMO. I'm afraid something silver, and I would look like a 70's disco mirror ball. Would it be okay for me to wear black too? |

My worst issue is that I'm an accountant and we are just starting into tax season, our busy BUSY time, and now I have to plan a whole wedding with no spare time. I'm stressed and I haven't even started yet!! |
YAYAYahhh!!! My wedding is September 8, 2012!! I love love love wedding talk!! So far we have our church, reception location, band and photographer (one of the most important things on my list ... I had a very specific idea in mind for what I wanted so I really researched this one!). Oh and I got my dress...which I LOVE!!!!! And picked my bridesmaid dresses - very pretty navy blue Amsale. I am designing our save the dates since I work in marketing/design. So I am hoping to get those out by month end. What else...would love to hear how everyone's planning is going!! |

If you want to dry something silver you could do a more muted silver or grey so it isn't 70s disco mirror ball esq. Also, they make great sashes so you could always add a pink or silver sash to your black dress! Hope that helps! |

We have our venues booked, a block of hotel rooms booked for our guests, photographer booked, DJ (fiance's uncle... this one was a compromise on my part), limo booked, tuxes rented, my dress and bridesmaids dresses ordered, some decor bought and rented, invitations and programs bought (but not yet printed) and I just ordered my flowers today on my lunch break :) We are doing an engagement shoot with our photographer soon (I wanted snow, and it finally snowed!) and yesterday I asked my brother to make a slideshow for the reception. I know some people hate slideshows but they are honestly my favourite part of every wedding I go to! I'm always a little sad when there is no slideshow lol. I think we're doing pretty well for our timeline! |

You are doing amazing for your timeline!! Has your dress come in yet? I cannot wait until mine does! I will get pictures of all things wedding up later too :)! And, I LOVE slideshows...im a dork! We are doing our engagement shoot in April...when the weather gets a little warmer. Trying to decide where in the city we want to do it! We live right near central park, but I feel as though the meatpacking is true NYC cobble stone streets and all! Pups will definitely be in some of those picces! |

How many dresses did you try on before you picked yours? I think I tried on about 15, 20 max. I went to a few different stores, and at the last store when they pulled the SAME dress for me, I knew it was the right one. But I went back to the first store to buy it because they were way nicer :D I loooooove NYC :) I say I wish I could live there, but I'm a small town girl at heart and I can't take all the hustle and bustle for too long! I'd love to go back and visit again though! You need to post a couple of pics when you get your engagement shoot done! We have a river running through the city that looks beautiful all times of the year, but I just feel it's a little more magical in the winter. There is an outdoor skating rink there too, and that's where my fiance first asked me to be his girlfriend :) We went skating one night and then sat on a bench looking at the stars. So I would love to have some engagement pictures taken there! |

How exciting! I love weddings! I wish I could go back and do that whole wedding planning over again. It was so much fun! I will love reading about all of you guys' plans and post lots of pix! :) I'd love to see dresses, cakes, flowers! So fun! :) |
No wedding for me (married 17yrs and am happy as can be) I just wanted to say congratulations to everyone. |
Just wanted to say congrats to all the bride to be's . |
So.... I got an email from 'ourweddindday.com' kindly reminding me that our wedding is 2 months and 1 week away!! Eeeekkkkkk. As you can imagine just about everything is done! My dress is at my house, first fitting is feb 16, bridesmaid dresses are here, color is Sangria. Wedding colors are the red wine colors ...from deep purple to deep burgundy. Invitations went out last week, getting the RSVPs back now. We had all our final vendor appointments and finalized the menu with the hall. We wrote our ceremony, and got our VIP readers committed. The only major thing left is getting the rehearsal dinner date and menu finalized and send those invitations. We also need to finish the favors and centerpieces. |
Congrats to each and everyone of you, i love reading about your plans and Linz06 that winter scene is breathtaking, i love it :) |
Thanks for the congrats :) Quote:
What did you decide for a menu? We are doing a buffet but we're deciding between two options. One includes BBQ chicken and roast beef, which is pretty standard at any wedding. Our other choice includes BBQ pork back ribs, honey garlic roasted chicken, and pan fried pickerel fillets with herb citrus butter. I think the second one is a little more adventurous since most weddings have chicken and beef, but then I've been told to just stick with what people will expect. My MOH does not eat pork, but she still would have chicken or fish to eat. |
My Dress 4 Attachment(s) Here are some pictures of my dress :) My MOH took these when we went bridesmaid dress shopping, and I decided to try on the sample again to show them. It is a couple of sizes too big, and I will be removing the flower (it is just safety pinned on) and probably adding a beaded belt. It's more "me" than with the flower! By the way, I went shopping thinking I would come out with a mermaid style or other slim-fitting gown. This ended up being the one lol! It just felt a little more fun and more comfortable! Please ignore the flat hair  |
4 Attachment(s) Linz, your dress is STUNNING!!!! I will attach some pics of my gown..not on me because I don't have any with it on me. But I love it! Mine is in all white though! Even the sash that looks colored in the pic, is white. Our menu has 4 passed hors d'oeuvres, shrimp cocktail, tiny grilled ham & cheese sandwiches, bruschetta and cranberry, almond salad in an endive cup. Then a stationary display of fruit, cheese, crackers and baguette. Our main meal is either a Chicken breast stuffed with Ricotta, spinach and fire roasted red peppers, or slow roasted dijon crusted pork loin, or vegetarian portabello spinach lasagna with fresh ricotta, basil and tomatoes. All sound soooo yummy to me! Here is the front & back of my gown on the model! :) My bouquet and my bridesmaid bouquets (roughly) My bouquet is being sprayed a deep purple, the actual roses are a very light purple, but the color when done will be dark purple. It takes away the beautiful rose smell, but it gives me the look I want. |

2 Attachment(s) Oh my gosh I LOVE your dress! I had looked at some like that too, except everything I found was strapless. I actually did not really want strapless to begin with, but I do love mine now. I really love the lace on your dress! It looks very classic! Your menu is making me salivate!!! I love your flowers too! When they spray them, does the color stay on the flowers well? Like it won't rub off? I hope my bouquets turn out like this... Oh and here's the inspiration board I fell in love with, which decided my wedding colors :) |

Your bouquet is very similar to mine too, I love it! The purple spray on my roses will make my roses dark purple and it will stay on them until they die! |

That sounds like a great idea for your roses! I remember watching I think it was Rich Bride, Poor Bride, and they were spraying some flowers blue, and it got all over their hands and all over everything! But it was just a DIY job and I don't think they used the right stuff for it. So that's why I asked! I am sure yours will turn out wonderful! |
linz and celstu, your dresses are fabulous! I really like your colours, too. We are now looking at having our ceremony in a local heritage house (1920s), then reception in our home. It's been snowing so bad here I haven't been able to look for a dress or do any real planning :( My fiance and I are going to check out the heritage house this afternoon. The colours we\'re going with are a dusty, dark purple with pink and ivory. We\'re going to the Seattle Premium Outlet store on the weekend, weather permitting, so hopefully we can also check out some Washington bridal stores, too. Seems like they\'re getting hit pretty bad with snow today! |
