Yes, anyone with fingernails should have them. The fact that you don't seems to correlate with the idea that low thyroid activity makes them smaller.

Oh, wow! I've never heard that about bone thinning! I need to check with my doctor. I've been on thyroid replacement for years. However, if I wasn't consistent with my dosage each and every day, my thyroid count would be all over the place.

I have no medical problems at all and have vivid half moons on all my fingers and thumbs. Guess that means I'm still in good shape?

I have half-moons on 9 of my 10 fingernails...all but the pinky of my right hand. No thyroid problems, no medical issues. I think I've always had the half-moons. The one on my right pinky may be visible if I'd push my cuticles back properly.

Guys, all this talk about nails has got me worried. When I check for the half-moons. I noticed that the very tip of my fingernails are turning darkish grey.

I've spent a lot of the winter with that 'gellish' nail polish on. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the salon and had it taken off. I had a regular manicure with no polish just to let my nails 'breathe' for a while.

They looked so fantastic just natural and so healthy! But now I see the very tips of my nails are dark gray.

Could this be some kind of 'fungus' from the nail salon????

I have a prominent moon on my thumb and forefinger, barely a moon on my middle finger and nothing at all on my ring and pinky. I have plenty of energy 95% of the time when Im not sick or over tired for a reason. hhhmmm Interesting though!

Prominent half moons on my thumbs only, slight on index fingers, nothing on the rest. I have hypothyroid issue for which I've been on meds for several years.

Are you talking about the nail bed, or the nail itself? I don't know much about nail fungus. I know a couple women who picked up nasty FOOT fungus from pedicures. I love me a good pedicure, but those tubs aren't disinfected between uses... total germ factory. Hand nails, I suppose it's possible it the manicurist didn't clean her instruments...? Are you sure it's not just a leftover from your old nail color?

I have never had a professional pedicure. When I was a teen, I saw a CNN report about the foot tubs and a young woman whose legs were horribly scarred from an infection she picked up from a dirty tub while having a pedicure. She had shaved her legs right before she had her toes done and the docs thought that may have made her more susceptible to the infection. The report featured other women who picked up nasty things.

Well, I'm not sure if this is some discoloration due to the color itself or use of the Acetone. It's on the nail itself. I cut my nails all off on the left hand and am going to see if it comes back.

I've seen those things too but I love Pedicures!
