| Odd remedies Inspired by the following thread, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/peo...ets-share.html I want to know: What is the oddest remedy you've ever heard of? I want to hear crazy wives tales passed on through your family but is just too odd to try. For example, a made up crazy remedy for a crazy made up organ: There is an organ called vilis. I'm still unsure what it does, but you do get sick by it sometimes. According to my aunt anyway. To keep it from ever inflaming, and becoming a problem, she had my cousin buy her one corona at the corner store every morning. She would boiled her corona and then drink it. As far as I know, her vilis never caused her any problems.

| My former MIL SWORE that putting slices of onion in my baby son's socks would break his fever. He used to get ear infections a lot (one more and the doctor was going to put tubes in, but he miraculously stopped having them, lol) In the morning, he would stink to high heaven, but you know what? His fever would be gone

| For an upset stomach this one really works, because I've used it many times. Pour a small amount of Coke into a glass. Squeeze 2 or 3 limes and pour the juice into the Coke and drink. I've never had anything fix an upset stomach so quickly as this does. One I haven't tried but have heard from several people that it works to relieve arthritis, bursitis, and all those other " 'itis" ailments. Loosely fill a jelly size jar with golden raisins - has to be the golden ones. Then fill the jar with gin - any type, doesn't have to be the expensive brands. Cover and let sit for a week, then eat a tablespoon of raisins a day. It doesn't say what to do with the left over gin or the gin in the jar but this is a creative bunch, I'm sure ya'll can figure out something to do with it.

| When my older cousins had an earache, my Grandma would heat up olive oil and put a drop in their ears. |

| WARNING! The following is really gross This one will show you all how stuck in the stone age my grandparents are. My elderly grandma gets frequent nosebleeds. According to my grandpa, since the doctor's removed her uterus, the nosebleeds are her monthly period. No uterus, so the excess blood has to come out somewhere. One way to "cure" this issue, is to have a cup of fresh male urine, and dip a hankie in there and hold it up to the nose. My grandparents did this the last time they were here. I'll never forget how grossed out I was.

| When I was little our dog got distemper and the vet basically sent the Peke home with some type of medication and said "Good luck" but he didn't expect Tippy to live through the night. Tippy had a terrible time breathing and was choking for breath at one point, his little eyes bugged out in terror from struggling to breathe. My dad soaked a rag in turpentine and put it around his neck and sat with him, holding Vicks Vaporub under his nose and the rag in place throughout the night. Daddy would repeatedly dip that rag in the turpentine as the spirits would evaporate and replace it around Tippy's neck. Somehow, someway, little Tippy lived through that night, albeit his eyes were burned by the fumes and the vet, highly surprised he had made it through the night, treated his eyes for the fume burns with ointment and told Daddy Tippy had passed the danger zone, though he was still very sick a few more days. Tippy lived to be 16 1/2 years old - another 11 years after that distemper with no ill effects from the distemper or the eye burns.

| My grandma told me to use vanilla extract on the gums for teething. You have to use pure vanilla not imitation and it does work.

| For ear infections, peel a clove of garlic, put it in your ear whole (do not cut it, it burns) and then cover with a bandaid to keep it in overnight. I guess Garlic absorbs fluids and draws it up out of the ear canal.... VERY weird to me, but my friend does it with her kids all the time and it works!
