Netflix Anyone???!

So, with the 60% increase in price starting September 1st...I was wondering what other netflix users are going to do? Keep it or leave it? :D

DvlshAngel985 07-16-2011 10:29 PM

I might keep it. It's better than cable, and it's better than most other forms of renting movies. It's also better than hulu plus, at least to me it is. I really enjoy watching what I want, when I want it without having to buy a separate device from what I already own. I watch on my iPod, laptop, 360, and I am still able to share the access with my boyfriend. He watches on his PS3. Like I said, too many perks so far.

capt_noonie 07-16-2011 10:47 PM

netflix sucks donkey b@ll$

We tried the $7/month thing before they upped their prices. You get all streaming included but if you want one dvd out at a time, it's $9/month. (I can rent new releases at a local rental shop for $1.) Every single dvd we wanted to watch was "upgrade only" and not even just the new releases, it was anything good. The only streaming they had available was already readily available on hulu or youtube. Old stuff? dvd only. Obscure stuff? dvd only. what is the point of netflix if you can't rent out obscure old crap? I wanna watch Army of Darkness on dvd ok? Why should I have to pay $9 for it, when I can buy the darn dvd for $9 on ebay.

I cancelled.

I guess it is cheaper than cable. We don't have TV here, we watch everything on computer so netflix is not worth it anymore to us...we are going to watching online or download ;)

I have only had Netflix for a couple of months and like Priscilla, I'm not happy with the selection. With the rate increase, I will be cancelling.

stanziog 07-17-2011 02:31 AM

I have had netflix for about 2 years now and i think the increase sucks also. I am cancelling!

Lil Sis 07-17-2011 02:51 AM

I only had it for a couple weeks... I got it with my new ipad2 (yah)
I am not too happy with the selection so far.

SophieKatesMom 07-17-2011 04:54 AM

I switched to a streaming only package and will use Redbox for my movie rentals. I found I was ordering movies and never watching them so Redbox is a better solution. I only use the streaming on my IPad but it does get used so I am okay until they raise prices again.

Princess10 07-17-2011 07:35 AM

Luckily, our public library has tons of movies, it gets almost every new release lately as well, so we've been using it a lot. You can also request that they order something they don't stock & they almost always get it in.

I like streaming because I've found a lot on there that we like. But what's annoying is they used to have something then take it off, I don't know if they'll be doing that anymore. I think we'll stick to streaming for now. I've been hearing a lot of people will cancel & wonder if Netflix will reconsider.

Britster 07-17-2011 11:33 AM

I just got it last week on my Wii. It's $7-$8 per month, right now, I think? I am not sure. I don't have the options for getting DVD's in my mailbox, I just do the streaming thing. Is it going up for just that too? That SUCKS, lol. I JUST signed up for it and am enjoying it. I don't have cable in my bedroom so it's really nice to have. I am still in my free month, though.

I might do the free month thing, but definitely not going to pay for it! It's not worth it! My bf has it and their selection kind of sucks! For online streaming only, it's the same price ($7), but they keep increasing their prices so who knows. :thumbdown Netflix!!

Ellie May 07-17-2011 01:47 PM

I think we're dropping it. We have the computer hooked up to the TV (so the TV is the monitor), so streaming is great for us, but it probably won't be worth it.

We like to watch sitcom reruns, but we aren't able to stream most of them. And with the mailbox service, they only send you one sitcom DVD at a time which is like 4 episodes. It may be fair, but it's lousy. lol.

We'll probably just resubscribe to Megavideo or possibly Hulu Plus.

I think that's the new price. Existing members will see the increase later. Am I the only one that likes sitcoms from the 50's????? Everything I want to watch is on Netflix, including south park. :D

I think I was born in the wrong generation. All week long I've had "50's on 5" on my Sirius radio and I loooveee The Twilight Zone, I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, Leave It To Beaver, LOL. Love it.

I think my favorite sitcoms were from the 90's though. Boy Meets World is my favorite favorite. Full House, Sabrina, Friends, Seinfeld, etc.

Me too!! I LOVE Full House, Sabrina, and Friends!! I used to like I Dream of Jeannie too!! lol

yorkietalkjilly 07-17-2011 03:03 PM

I'm on the oldies and classics kick myself. For some reason, I am watching a lot of the 50's B&W Sci-Fi films this summer as Direct TV has them on and enjoying the heck out of them. Never realized how funny - and really good one or two of them were. "The Thing From Another World" (Howard Hawkes) has great dialogue and a lot of suspense without gore. Good film! Last summer I was into the movies on Lifetime Movie Network. Love Turner Classic Movies. Many of today's movies are so full of bad behavior and language, they are hard to watch, so I've not tried Netflix yet.

Princess10 07-17-2011 03:11 PM

For those that haven't seen anything "good" on streaming, you should check again. They have added a ton of stuff that wasn't on there even a month ago, esp. lot's of T.V. shows. I've even added a lot of Dragnet!

I was pretty mad at first when they started changing things--they added all 4 seasons of the Tudors (my fave ever) but they didn't add 1-2 episodes per season! Each DVD has about 3 episodes & you would've had to order two DVD's to make up the loss! Glad they fixed that!

ArmaniMan 07-17-2011 03:21 PM

I had it for a short time on my IPAD and ended up canceling it- I didn't think it was worth the extra money every month. I have cable with tons of channels and DVR. So I can almost always find a show to watch or watch something I DVR'ed. I sometimes rent movies from the on demand channel and they are only a couple of dollars. I suppose it would be worth it if I didn't have cable.

yorkietalkjilly 07-17-2011 04:14 PM

That's me, Armani, I have Direct TV and so many channels and a DVR and I always have a long, long list of things to watch and more am recording so no real need for Netflix. And there's all the sports we watch - our family are sports nuts from generations. Plus, most of the channels I get they bleep out the bad language and it saves my delicate little lady ears:D. And then there is all the streaming TV and movies and audio books we can get online. So far, I haven't really needed anything like Netflix. But for those that use it, that price increase is really hefty.

We get free ESPN with xbox live, so my family ended up with Netflix. It made more sense for us to do it this way. We are debating whether or not to continue once the price changes.

My lil friend 07-17-2011 09:12 PM

We just left BlkBuster and have been doing the streaming thing with Netflix. So far we are happy with Netflix. Dont and probably wont have cable or dish. Not real big tv watchers, usually a movie here and there.

Mom2TwoYorkies 07-18-2011 04:30 AM

I switched to 1 DVD out at a time unlimited a month for 7.99. So we'll see how that goes . . .

I have the same plan and the price for it is going to increase 60% starting in January, if I understand correctly.

MaddiesMommie 07-18-2011 08:24 AM

If I understand correctly, each service: discs in the mail OR online streaming is $7.99 each instead of having both for $9.99. If you want both, you will pay $15.98. However, you can choose to only keep one option for $7.99.

We are planning to cancel. I get frustrated that so many selections are available DVD only. Just the other day my dh watched a movie and wanted me to watch it. When we searched for it, it was available DVD only now. ???

My understanding is Netflix is trying to persuade more users to use the streaming option instead of DVDs. Why isn't everyhting available via streaming is my question.

Most of the movies on netflix are older and we still rent from RedBox occasionally if we have missed one in the theater.

TatumsMom 07-18-2011 09:20 AM

We just started with Netflix about a month ago. I really love the streaming because I've been wanting to see a few tv shows from the very beginning. I watch them at home and on my phone. Loving "Bones" right now! BUT I will probably cancel my dvd side of the plan. There are very few movies that are available through Netflix that aren't available through Redbox. I hate that I have to make that choice though because when I want to find an older movie, Netflix is pretty much the only option. I just don't think $16 a month is worth it.

DvlshAngel985 07-18-2011 10:32 AM

I wonder if it would be beneficial for all of us to let Netflix know just how many customers they will lose when they increase the price. I'm sure if it's enough of us, they'll reconsider.

Lindzorz 07-18-2011 10:42 AM

I cancelled my Netflix a while back. The biggest selling point for me was the online streaming, but back when I had it, all the stuff that you could stream was old as the hills and / or crap. I forget to mail the movies back also, so that's no good for me. I'd rather just rent a movie for $1 / night from the redbox / Blockbuster Express machines. Well, I'd honestly rather to go the real movie rental places, but all our local ones were closed down. I look for all of them to soon enough.

Woogie Man 07-18-2011 11:09 AM

We do Blockbuster Online. We get 3 movies sent at a time. It's right at $20 dollars a month. The good thing is that we can turn them in to the store and it shows that return immediately so the next movies in our queue are sent right away. It works out that our movies are less than a dollar each. We don't use the feature, but you can also get games and blu-ray with the same package at no extra charge.

Netflix has already factored in a significant percentage of cancellations and determined that their profit margin will still increase. Investors feel the same way and Netflix stock jumped after the announcement of the rate increase. :(
