YT Dying Out?? I know that this is gonna generate a whole bunch of negative responses, but doesn't it seem that YT is in it's death throes?? So many of the old timers have jumped ship - it's sad! I miss all the old timers who were so experienced with Yorkies and had great advice for everyone. I understand that with a lot of other social sites, myspace, facebook, etc people have moved on but........ Seems like it's not the same site anymore |
I have not been around as long as you (joined in December 2008). But I agree. I think it's been in a rut lately. |
Interesting- I find it to be the most active dog site I have ever been on- most other sites, I could go days without going on and there might be a new page or 2 of posts- here when I just go 8-10 hours during the day without getting on there are too many pages of new posts for me to even read them all. Obviously, there are always time when people are more busy with there real lives and can't get on as much- but if someone has an emergency there is always someone here to answer them immediately. |
Ditto. I come on, read and leave, it is just not the same any more. What can we do, as a group to make things around here better? I can honestly say that I miss the "old" YT, I've been here awhile now and have seen many "friends" go, but why? |

I remember leaving for 6 hours and coming back to a ton of new stuff. Now I can go on vacation for days, come back, and it barely takes me time to catch up. But I think every community, forum, etc, goes through things like this. Different cycles and stuff. I'm sure it will pick up again. |

I admit a lot of the people I used to talk to when I first joined are gone, but I still enjoy the site. Hey...you all are still here! Who do you miss? Maybe you could contact them and encourage them to come back! :) |
I know that for some time a while back - there was a lot of "bashing" as to people's opinions and that may have turned some people off about posting their true feelings, but that seems to have cooled off a little - so can't really explain why some older members have drifted off - but it's sad and I miss them and their extensive experience with raising Yorkies. |
I haven't seen a slow down in posts. We average ~1,000 a day. But the past 2 days we've been above average with 1567 Friday and 1348 so far today. It is summer in the US so that does tend to slow the pace down a bit, but right now there are still 170 people online viewing. Members come and go, but YT's been around almost 8 years now I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. :) |
I agree with all of you and in some ways it's actually better because of the lack of "cliqueishness" ( is that a word - LOL!!) But I really enjoy all of you and your new ideas. |
I was just wondering if summer and vacations had anything to do with it. I remember the bashing...made me avoid anything controversial. And, at times I was afraid to make a comment on an innocent thread for fear of having people jump down your throat. I'm glad it is not as bad, but still makes you wary to post at times. |
Maybe it'll be a kinder, gentler YT - we can only hope -LOL! This is still the FIRST site I come to when I'm worried about Sadie and a new symptom she might have!! |
I haven't posted in awhile because it seems like there are more off topic subjects now. I joined this forum to learn more about Yorkies. Anything else that is posted here that doesn't regard yorkies I'm not interested in. |
A lot of people I talked to when I joined in 2009 aren't active anymore, but there seem to be so many new people every day. I am on YT a lot more than I will be when school starts, I have to go back to work. I think it is a great place and lots of nice people. I do notice that people join but never have post on their profile page they just post in threads. Couldn't live without Yorkie Talk. |

I agree - let's get back to talking about our Yorkies!!!! Not about the Casey Anthony trial - LOL!! |
I love YT and I love how it changes with the times, just like we do. Nothing is ever constant. You have to accept change otherwise you will not be happy. I mean that in general terms, not just YT. |
Im kinda new but I love YT. I would have been able to heal from loosing my precious Bunkey if it wasn't for the people on YT. I wouldnt of found my new sweet Mina if it wasn't for YT. I wouldnt of gotten to meet so many lovely people face to face here in TX or online without YT. I have figured out that there are definately some hot buttons. But I have also found soooo much great information about a breed that is different than any I have ever spent time with. I have had an oppertunity to pray for others in need, which in turn has blessed me. It has let me know that I am not alone in my love for my baby. Shall I go on? Because I can.... I do so hope that people that have been here for a while will continue to bless others with the knowledge that they have. You cannt just look this stuff up,experience can not be replaced. As for the forum not being as busy as it used to be. I would most certainly not get one thing done around here if there was much more to read. |
It seems like a lot of people read threads but don't post as much. I try and post on threads I read even if it is just to say good luck or I'm praying for your baby. |

Well, I would consider myself a newbie and I have to say that at first, not knowing differently, I was so surprised at what people will say on here. I even found myself getting caught up in a couple controversial threads. It got to the point that there was so much ugliness I was expending way too many emotions on these threads. So it is odd to hear that it is a kinder, gentler YT than a couple years ago. There are some brutal people on here and it's hard to imagine what y'all are saying - that there was a lot of bashing a couple years ago. Worse than now? Seems like a lot of bashing to me now. Between that and the "lack of variety" in the threads, I have found myself less interested in coming on. There are plenty of new threads and posts, but so much of it is redundant, particularly in the breeder section: "HELP! My 3 pound girl got pregnant at the groomer!" Aye, aye, aye! It's gets to be too much sometimes. But I love some of the people here! |
I will always love Yorkies, so in turn I will always love YorkieTalk...lets talk yorkie!!! |
Hey I learned how to pronounce "Bev air",didn't know they existed. Would love to learn more about them. History, connection with yorkies as we know them. I would like to see people connect face to face more and help each other. Dog walking, dog sitting, teaching to groom, helping us find places that we can take out babies (if it is important to us),finding specialests for different needs (I have seen some of this),even sewing cute things for your baby or where to best accquire some of the thing that you want to purchase (Ive seen this as well and they were fun threads). |
I'm a fairly new member to YT so I don't know how it was two yrs ago. I do know that it has been a great resourse for me a new Yorkie owner. I learn something new every time I log on. Like grapes are bad but they love frozen peas. The differences between good and bad food or at least what to look for. The part about not loosing baby teeth something I am now experiencing with Thor. When Thor had a bad tummy and I posted the symptoms and was advised to take him to the vet right away and I did and glad of it. The support and prayers that are sent when your worried about your fur baby. These are all the great things that I love about this site. My husband calls it my Yorkie support group and indeed it is. I'm glad you all are here and continue to educate me on how to make a better mommy to my little Thor. My two cents :) |

I haven't been on as much due to summertime activities. I just imagined that it might be that way for a lot of people. I love YT - on topic, off topic, the boring, and the controversial. It's all good to me. |
Yes, most people are being civil now. It's been much worse here. That is probably why some have left - it can get a bit heated... It does seem slower to me too. I think a lot of it is just that things have become redundant though. Another reason older members have left is probably that it gets extremely frustrating sometimes. Breeding, health, and nutrition questions can be very draining to answer when a lot of the people asking aren't interested in an honest answer. They want to hear what they want to hear or they want to debate. It's exhausting. It is mentally exhausting to me - daily. So I can see why they have moved on. Some have no intention of listening and just ask questions...for I dunno what reason? |

:pI find myself reading a lot lately and less posting. It's a circle post a lot. get pissed off, lmao at something, cry with someone even get to learn a few things. I do agree the cliquiness sucks as do some of the hostility. When all is said and done I love YT Andy is humping his teddy bear right now lol. |
I think the site is great. Over the years I have come to the site and looked for information for my babies. The first time was in 2005 when I was told my 17 year old Yorkie had mild pancreatitis. I was a member years ago (forgot my user ID and changed my email since then) and came back when my little girl was diagnosed with renal failure. It was nice to be able to get feedback from members and see that my vet was doing everything that was being recommended. I have recommended this site to all of my friends with Yorkies. I have also recommended people go to sites like this for their specific breed. I hope the site continues to thrive. I hope some of the ones who have drifted away drift back home to YT. |
