Hubby now in icu---another update Dh and i got up at 6am this morning and played around with our computers. Highly unusual for me I often sleep to noon with my work schedule. About 8 am he sd he was constipated and sd his stools (what he could pass)were still black. This time I looked at them, black as licorice. . He wanted a laxative. I refused to give him one till I talked to the GI lab or his dr. Called gi they sd call stomach specialist. Finally after an hr i got a hold of them and told them the problem. They talked to dr and asked how far away I was from hosp, I told them where i lived, they asked how soon i could get to hosp i sd as soon as i changed clothes. They sd get there as soon as possible. I told dh. Would you believe we got into a shouting match because he refused to go? He finally sd "FINE!" Got there and he was very pale. After doing tests they sd he had lost a little over 1/2 of his blood in his body. The dr actually told him he owed me his life because he had not got there when he did we would have lost him. I am still shaking as I type this. They did another scope, still found no bleeding but they cauterized the ulcer edges. They think the ulcer is opening and closing. It is very large and is 1 1/2 inches deep. He is in icu tonight with 2 surgeons keeping watch over him and a reg dr. They sd the ulcer is actually setting on veins and vessels (?) and it could cut them in to. If so if not caught very very fast I will lose him. So it may mean surgery. He will be in hosp at least till monday. He is getting 4 units of blood. They actually had to give him one before the scope as they did not know if he would make it without it. I am sitting by my phone. Please pray for us. |
Oh my how horrible, half his blood, he does owe his life to you! So glad you insisted, you would never have been able to forgive yourself if you hadn't gotten him there in time. I'm praying for your husband and you, and hope they can successfully treat his ulcer. Hugs to you! |
Oh honey, I am praying for DH and send thoughts of strength for you. |
Boy, you've had a rough go of it lately. Sending prayers your way. I'm so glad you made him go even if he hesitated..... |
Oh my! Thank goodness you were on your toes and contacted the doctor. 1/2 your blood is a bunch! He is a lucky man. Lucky to have you. Hope they are able to get everything under control. Keep us updated!! Sending prayers and hugs! |
Oh thank God you were on top of it and insisted he go. I will keep him in my prayers. |
Oh my goodness!! I am sending prayers up for your DH. He is lucky you wouldn't take no for an answer and made him go in. |
Wow! Keeping you both in my prayers... |
Oh no, many, many prayers going out to your hubby. Keeping you in my prayers as well. |
Glad you put your foot down and stood your ground. Will be saying an extra prayer for you and your dh. Hugs to you. |
I am so sorry that you are going through this..hang in there...i will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers |
Thanks to all ! All prayers and good thoughts greatly appreciated by all of us. I am going to try and get some sleep. Something that is not easy for me to do with him not here. It will be a long weekend. I came home and called a friend and went over everything with her. I shed some tears, ate a bit and watched a little mindless tv. I had to share with my friends on here also. I can not live without him. BTW, he did say he guessed I did not over react and I was right. THAT does not happen often. Will update tomorrow night. Phone is by my side and my kindle is charging for the next few days. Thanks again. |
How terribly scary! I will certainly say a prayer for your hubby and you. *HUG* |
My prayers are with you, Thank God he finally gave in and did what you told him. It is a blessing that he told you instead of being stubborn. It is hard on the wife when the husband doesn't worry about their health. Maybe you can get some rest even of you are at the hospital but you know he is being well taken care of.Please keep us updated. |
You guys are in our thoughts. Hoping for a great outcome and a total recovery. |
How scary for you! I am sending positive thoughts and prayers your way! |
I am keeping you both in my prayers and praying for a complete recovery. |
Hey all. Thanks for prayers and thoughts they are helping. I am at home as he did not want me sitting in the waiting room just being able to see him ever hr. He is asking for his laptop (farmville withdrawl) and his cell phone so I will take those when dd and i go tonight. He looks better and is complaining a lot. Good signs. They wound up giving him 3 units of blood. There is a number (can not rem name of it) that is suppose to be 35 in a man his size. When we brought him in it was 5.2 and for the past 12 hrs it has been 22.0. anything below 22 and they give blood. good news: staying steady, bad news not improving. They may let him have clear liquids today. Surgeons are still watching closely. I spoke to one today and they sd if one of the arteries or vessels burst under the ulcer, they have 10 minutes to get it to stop or he will not make it. He keeps telling me not to worry. Yeah right! He did say (hold on to your hats ladies) I was right in getting him to go to the er. He is no longer as pale as he was. They again told him he lost more than 1/2 of his blood and needs to rest. He wants up and out of there. I love him and can't help but worry, but i did get in an i told you so. Told him i was entitled to say it at least for a week. |
Haha! Glad he's doing better... and coming to his senses! Prayers for whatever makes him better! Hugs to you, the good wife!:D |
So glad you were able to get him to the hospital in time; you must be a really quick thinker. Prayers for a full recovery. |
So scary! Prayers being sent your way! |
Thanks all Ringo1: not a quick thinker, just a worrywart that has been sick enought myself to know when thinks do not seem right. I am a firm believer that is something seems wrong healthwise, have it checked out. Just heard from his sister who went to see him after i came home to rest. The associate of the stomach dr who is seeing him, sd he could have soft foods and he will be going to a regular room tonight or tomorrow. Things seem to be getting better. |
Glad to hear DH is moving to a regular room. Hopefully he will be well enough to come home. Keeping the prayers going. |
Praying he continues to improve. |
Many many thoughts and prayers are with you both :heart to |
I'm glad to hear your husband is doing better this evening. We went through the same thing with my dad last month, so I know how scared you must be right now. Good for you for holding your ground and making him go to the hospital. The 35 number is the hematocrit. It's the percentage of total blood volume that is taken up by the red blood cells. It's good news that it is holding steady, that means no active bleeding. I hope he starts to feel better soon. |
omgoodness this is a rough one. Praise God he listened to you finally and let you make him go. i will be praying that he gets better really soon and the drs and surgeons will be blessed to know what they need to do to help him and make all the right choices and bless them if they do any surgical procedures on him. try to rest and know that we are all praying for him and God hears those prayers. |
Sending positive thoughts and energy for you both. |
Checking on updates this morning. Hope hubby is doing better. |
Hoping for some good news keeping your family in my thoughts |
