Checking in for an update...praying that your DH is doing better today. |
That was so close for you. I'm so glad he is showing improvement and I hope he continues to get better. Hugs to you! |
Just seeing this; I'm so glad that your hubby is improving, I hope he continues to improve. |
wow.. just reading this.. I thought he was doing better and I am so shocked!! I am praying.. sending prayers and all my good positive energy to help your husband. Hang in there .. we are behind you !!!!! |
Thanks all! Just got back from hosp. He is in the process of getting another unit of blood. The hemocrit (think that is it) has risen to 23 today. Still low as it is suppose to be at least 35 though they want 45. Sd may go home tomorrow but that was an internal medicine dr not the stomach dr that admitted him. He should be in Monday. I plan to get to the hosp about 8. I talked to a coworker today and she thinks they will not fire me if i miss another day because to the circumstances. I do not understand his diet though. I had been told by admitting dr would be a bland diet. His first meal was a turkey sandwich and animal crackers. Later he had asparagus with hard edges. Dr had sd they did not want food with sharp edges cause it could rub the ulcer. They have also been giving him carbonated drinks such as diet coke and coffee. ?!? when i asked the internal med dr she sd it would be ok. Will def talk to dr tomorrow. |
I hope hubby can come home tomorrow. Keeping him in my prayers. |
Oh my how scary! I'm glad he is improving....I hope the diet they are giving him really is ok! |
Hope you got his diet straightened out. I would agree - asparagus, coke and coffee are not on the list of bland food diet for moderate to severe GI inflammation/bleeding issues. Hoping all is well and he is continuing to improve. |
My prayers are still with you! Can't wait to hear that number hit 35 and then 45! Keep us posted! |
Hoping things are continuing to improve. Sending prayers and hugs. |
This does sound like a strange diet for an ulcer. My brother had Ulcerated Colitis and he couldn't have any of those foods and a ton of other stuff, it was a really bland diet. Continued prayers for you and your husband. Often illness is harder on the caregiver than the patient. |
another update! YIPPEE! he is home. His hemocrit (sp) got to 27. Not as high as they would like but over the 24 required to go home. It was 16 when he came in. His hemoglobin got 9.2 (it was 5.9 when he was brought in) they would like it to be 15. This is after 5 units of blood. He has to go to stomach dr on friday to be reevaluated. He can not get in the heat and needs to take it easy along with no driving. I have requested family leave act papers so i can stay out of work till july 5th. I will be watching him like a hawk. If any symptoms reoccur, back to er. His stools are still black and if they do not clear up in next few days will be calling dr. he will have another scope in 4-6 weeks Diet. nurse sd the chart sd gi soft bland diet. Sd he did not say clear liquids. when I mentioned the diet he was giving including caffiene and organe juice. he sd he should not have been giving them but he could not watch the nurses all the time. each blamed the other. He sd jimmie scared him friday in the er. one of the worse cases he has ever had. and he has been a dr for a good while. He is considered one of the best in knoxville. He has helped my dad several times so i trust him. |
So happy he is home. I hope you can get the leave you need. Sending my best wishes for both of you.:) |
I hope your husband's health continues to improve and that you both can rest more easily. Jimmie is very lucky to have you loving, protecting, and advocating for him. In his own home and with your love and that of your pups, he will probably get better much more quickly. You both are in my prayers. |
Checking back and I'm thrilled to here DH is now home and improving. With your love an attention, I'm sure he will be back to his ole' self in not time. Hugs))) to you both. Still praying for continued improvement. |
I am so glad your DH is doing better and home. I will pray for him to continue to heal and for you both to get some much needed rest. ((hugs)) |
Glad to hear your husband is home. Hopefully it is only up from here! I think it's a good idea to be home watching him for a while. You've both just been through the ringer. |
