| I'm a horrible person This morning started off horrible! I was driving out of my housing track, traveling slow. I came up and looked and saw this little brown bird in the street, just sitting there. Well with my experience the birds usually fly away once you get close enough. Well he didn't, I realized I never saw him fly up and I looked back and he was smashed!! I turned around to make sure he wasn't suffering, and I saw his little friend hop over to him, he was looking at him ( you know how they turn their heads) and kept trying to move him!! I felt HORRIBLE!!!! I KILLED A LITTLE TINY BIRD THAT WAS JUST SITTING THERE IN THE STREET GETTING SOME SUN! This is my first roadkill, I feel horrible about it, I really do! Since we are backed up on a hill and up over our hill is just dirt and rocks and tons of animals, we have ALOT of different types of birds come around, last night I saw this cute little yellow one. Well bc of what I did I am going to get a little bird feeder and little water thing in memory of the little guy I hit!! Does the pain ever go away?

| Eventually. The pain will go away. How long it takes depends upon your willingness to forgive yourself. I remember the day that I hit a squirrel, same scenario, except I heard and felt the crunch. My sister was in the car with me, I was very angry and I really truly thought the little guy would run at the last minute. Well, he didn't. That was about 15 years ago and it still hurts. |

| I swear, we are soul sisters! I once hit a little bird, coming out of my housing track. I thought he was flying away - needless to say he didn't start in time, even though I was driving slowly trying not to hit him. I stopped the car, got out to see if he was ok (he was lying on road). I was home for lunch while working. I saw his eye blink but he seemed unable to move. I got a blanket out of my car, wrapped him up, took him to my vet at the time. Asked them if they could help him. I went back to work, LATE, w coworkers laughing at me that I drove a hit bird to the vet! My one male coworker told me that's what reverse is for. The vet called me a week later, saying they gave him IV fluids, he turned around, and they eventually gave him to a bird sanctuary to finish rehabbing him. And BTW, hope you threw out that blanket - the little bird had lice! UGH!!! I then took my car in for a thorough cleaning! Mom was mad at me - that was a wool blanket she had given me as a gift! I've got the feeling you would have done the same for that little one!!! I wouldn't beat yourself up - you did stop to make sure he was ok. It was an accident.

| I am sorry. I know the gut wrenching horrible feeling when something like that happens all too well. It stinks. I do like the bird feeding idea you are doing. I think you will really enjoy seening all the varieties of birds that come to feed.

| Thanks guys, you've made me feel a little better. It's just depressing to take a life of a little bird. I think the little bird that was there that went to look at his friend hurt the most. chattiesmom- I think I will be like you, and this will hurt me forever. gidget529- I think you are right!! We must be!! You always see them move at the last minute!! If he was still alive I would have taken him. Poor little guy! I told my coworkers and they just laugh at me and tell me I am crazy!! I am glad I can come on here for support! At least you tried to help the lil guy. Some people just run over things and have no sympathy!! horsnaround- It is hard when you see their loved one go to them, and wonder why they are not moving.. That hurts the most I think! Cha Cha- Thank you. I think that will help too!! I can't wait to set it up and watch all the pretty birds!

| I am so sorry... it shows you have a good heart! There was a fad a few years ago that people could buy toys that looked like an animal that they would put on the front of their cars(sort of like the fake bull balls hanging off the back of a truck or gun shots.etc) .. it would look like you hit an animal. Very poor taste. The sad thing is there was a lady at my work-- well one day she had a duck on the front of her truck -- we all thought it was one of the "toys" and one of use said something to her.. it wasn't a toy. We all started crying.. the janitor had to remove it for her. uggghhh

| I'm sorry that you are feeling bad after your accident today with the little bird. Of course I have a bird story as well. I was driving near a nesting area that the geese use and saw two sitting on the side of the rode. They were right next to the road on their nest. As I drove by the BOTH took flight! One hit the corner of my door and the other landed on the hood of my car and rolled across the hood, up the windshield and over my OPEN sunroof~all the while honking! It was the scariest thing ever and nothing that I could have done to prevent it. I decided to turn around and surprisingly neither was laying in the road. I have no idea how they were not there.
