Really, I just made the 'pretty white woman' comment as a reference as to how it got started with the statistics. I found them to be not credible and slanted. Numbers don't lie, but they can be used to make just about any point one wants to make.

Now don't go testing your theory by getting yourself into trouble. We at YT don't want to have to come bail you out!!

I don't get why people do not understand that circumstantial evidence is the evidence accumulated @ the scene of the circumstance.

People that are depending on a video tape of the crime are just beyond stupid. CSI is a show w/all your results in an hour. I truly think that's what juries are looking for now.

I think she will have to move out of state, even change her looks. Everybody knows her by now.

I don't think presenting statistics is inappropriate. You can go back and read everything that I said so that you don't feel so offended. I didn't disagree with anything the previous poster said, again if you had read. I copy pasted certain parts of the statistics because I wanted to emphasize certain points that I wanted to discuss with another poster...if I wanted to not provide all of the statistics presented there I could have simply not provided the link. If you go back a couple of posts, you would have read that I pleaded that my comments regarding race/ethnicity not offend anyone I wanted other people's input, which many people respectfully provided. Another poster provided statistics from 1997 and all I said was that it was outdated and I provided her with a more recent link that provides more recent figures, and I pointed out a statistics that I think is important to consider when evaluating it.

I would also like to add that I'm in a PhD program in which our research is solely based on statistical analysis and I know very well that statistics can be interpreted in different ways. Quite frankly I'm offended that you didn't read all of my posts before saying that what I brought up was "innapropriate" because I took great care into asking and making sure people understand what I was asking/why I was asking and that I meant to not offend anyone.

I would also like to add that I spend A LOT of my free time petitioning different cases brought up by Amnesty International. One that was very important was that of Troy Davis a man who was convicted a police officer in 1991 who remains two decades letter on death row even though the evidence for his conviction has completely fallen apart. And no, I am not saying that this is the average case on death row. By far Troy Davis is the exception, but I feel completely entitled to stand up for what I believe in and what I've spent many hours of my free time working on and researching. So I'm sorry if I've apparently offended someone.

Yeah, I'll try to stay out of trouble! :rolleyes: A jury of my peers would HAVE to come from the YT community...so at least I would get a fair trial. ;)

roseylovestosho, this is a topic that can get a lot of emotions going. (Trust me, I know...I can see myself falling on both sides at times!) I do recall you saying you didn't want to offend anyone, and please know you have not offended me. We are all entitled to our opinions, when the topic is a sensitive one, emotions can get high. Like my own! :rolleyes: Please don't let your feelings be hurt. I think it might be best to move on from that topic.

Back to Casey Anthony....her hearing is tomorrow to see what her sentence will be. My HOPE is that Judge Perry doesn't cut her ANY slack.

She could get up to a year for each offense, so that would be 4 years. She's already served 3 years, but a lot of that was because of her felony convictions for check fraud (stealing from her best friend.) I hope that he gives her four years...at least she would have to serve about another year.

They are speculating that she will get four years (served consecutively, so really just ONE year :mad: ) and since she's already served nearly that they will give her the rest off for 'good behavior.'

Judge Perry is pretty heavy handed when it comes to sentencing, from what I've heard. I just hope there aren't any loop holes Baez is able to pull her through. But, my hopes aren't real high. She'll probably walk free tomorrow. Disgusting!!

Have to add...the "time off for good behavior" always bothers me. There aren't a lot of children to murder in jail, so yeah, I guess she's been "good." :thumbdown:thumbdown

Thank you for considering my feelings. Because they were hurt pretty badly. I'm just unsubscribing from this thread. Today has just been an awful day all together. On top of everything that has happened this week with Casey Anthony, the woman I saw get beat up outside of my apartment window, and tonight I just found out that my elderly neighbor's husband with dementia passed away...AND I have to take Teddy to the opthamologist tomorrow and hope everything goes well and they can finally figure out what is wrong with him. I just need a break from everything and need to think positive thoughts because I am just completely devastated...so I'm just going to excuse myself from this thread. Goodnight all.

I think it is great that you do this. It is AWFUL that anyone innocent goes to jail. There is a saying I've heard...it's better for 9 guilty to go free than one innocent to go to jail. That really made me think. As much as I have been (and still am) angry at our justice system (over Casey getting off), it is slanted in favor of the defendants for a reason. Unfortunately, even then sometimes the innocent get convicted. But, that is probably a conversation for another day! LOL!

For like a month. I guess it is better than NOTHING, but not much.
I WISH the judge wouldn't have let her have credit for the time she served for the felony charges. But, whatever, this whole thing has not been fair, why should it be different now?

Less than 30 DAYS for murdering her daughter. Disgusting.
