Once again...I've been misunderstood...I give up. |
I know how you feel and I have someone at work who is a little like that. She always has to have the expensive purses and the expensive car and house and I know it's because she feels so inferior that having those things helps her feel better about herself so mostly I just feel sorry for her and try to tell her that those of us in the office love her without those things but I don't think she really hears me. :( My sister has donney & burke (is that even spelt right) purses and I was going to but one once and went to macy and it was over $100 and I thought, how can I spend money like that on a purse when there are children starving in the world and couldn't bring myself to buy it. Not critisizing those that do, but if I have a $100 I choose to buy my $20 bargain purse and give the rest to someone who really needs it..... But also feel sorry for those that think an expensive purse or expensive anything makes them better cause that's just plain sad. :( |
Oh, I get that shoved in my face all the time by one of my family members. Even in High School, when her mother was poor - she STILL had to have all brand names this and that. In high school, I cared even less than I do now. Now she is married and a wealthy SAHM and it's Coach purse this and Coach that; you name it ~ she has it and is MORE than willing to show it off. Everything she has is better than what YOU have. Yuck. |

This thread has been interesting,,, my 2ish cents worth.,Ya cannt take it with ya! The only name that really brings me joy in my clothing, purses and other accessories is mine. The joy of creating in my mind what I want and figuring out how to make it is far greater than even the finished product. The joy I get from gifting some of my creations to friends is greater than anything to me,except my family. To leave a mark of joy on someone else instead of hurting their spirit for the purpose of making oneself feel bigger is a much bigger blessing to yourself. My heart hurts for the person that feels they are better than others because of what they own, because when you get right down to it,you cannt take it with you. If I am very lucky in eternity I will have my family and past pets surround me. |
This convo reminds me of when I went to college decades ago. My school had a reputation for being full of rich spoiled kids. I was pretty spoiled but not rich and was totally clueless about designer labels. To me, a purse was something you spent maybe $10 to buy. My neighbor in the dorm showed up with a designer purse, which I didn't recognize as such - I thought it was ugly two-toned brown, looked more like plastic than leather, and didn't understand why you would want somebody's initials all over your stuff. Needless to say, she never tried to impress me with how rich her daddy was again. I still don't want somebody's initials all over my luggage, or on my rump, for that matter. |

Was this on a handbag forum or a dog forum?! Some people are just looney- but this person probably has no friends, no life, nothing, aside from her "things". |

I haven't been back since........... ugh I hate them. They are not "ladies" for sure. They are the types to buy a tiny pup from a pet shop to carry around in a $1000 designer bag as a status symbol. :thumbdown |
LOL. My take on spending so much for a purse: If I spent a lot on a purse, I would not have anything to put in it. My dtr is always fussing at me. I like to change purses when I get tired of them or they get too messy inside. I always look on the clearance racks at stores. I am usually out of season all the time. If I spend more than $15 for a purse i feel bad. |

Along that same line ... my brother said something wise to me after his car was stolen and he had time to reflect. He said, "Never love something that can't love you back." That really made me think and I have honestly tried to incorporate that into my life. |
