Do you have any nonsensical / compulsive behaviors? I'm sure I have more than one :D, but this one is silly to me, and I've been laughing at myself over it: *When I'm about to get out of my car, I press the lock button on the door to lock all doors. HOWEVER, I can't just leave it at that and trust that it's locked. After I close the car door, I absolutely must press the button on my keyfob to hear the confirmation honk. I just have to hear that honk! I've tried not honking, and I can't do it. So silly. It's not like I'm storing diamonds in the car, anyway. Although, I do often have freshly purchased Target items in there, and we all know that's like gold. Does anyone do stuff like that? |
I lock my doors immediately after getting into my vehicle. I also wash my pots really good after cooking, but then when I take them out to cook the next day i wash them again before using   I think that is very weird.. :D |
Now that I am getting older and my memory and concentration are steadily deteriorating, I compulsively check and re-check door locks. My biggest compulsion is checking my bank card. When I leave a store, I check that the card is in my purse. I check again in the car. I check once more at home when I take out my receipts. I suppose this is only nonsensical in that I don't trust myself. :p |

Hmmm, I can't lock my door before I exit so I have to use the remote lock. I drive around the block to make sure I closed my garage door. I have yet to find that I didn't. |
I always check before I shut the car door at least twice to make sure the keys are in my pocket or brief case. Guess it comes with getting old. Then I always lock it at least twice before I am satisified to leave it. I think I am trying to drive myself nuts. LOL |
Well I don't know how odd this is, but when I back out of the garage I hit the garage door remote and just sit there till the door is completely closed. And right before bed time we take the girls outside for a little while and even though I see all of them come in, and after I give fresh water and put pee pads down, I still look in all their beds to make sure they are all there before I turn the light off and go upstairs. Maybe this is more "being careful" than anything else? |

If I have to start my car and then get out to scrape/brush snow off my windows, I get out of my car, check and pull on the manual lock to make sure it's unlocked for sure before I shut my door. I have this weird feeling that I'm gonig to lock my keys in my car! I have never ever locked my keys in my car, so I don't know why I have such a fear of it! I also check locks on the house bcause I always second guess myself. When I'm home by myself, I deadbolt the door as soon as I walk in, but I still go back to check it to make sure it's really deadbolted. I live in a small town where nothing is ever stolen (neighbor's kids leave stuff all over their lawn year round!) plus we have an alarm system, PLUS they'd need to break in the garage first before getting to the house... yet I still feel if something were to happen, it would happen when I'm home alone, and so I continue to check on everything! |

I have to check to make sure the stove is off even if I know I turned it off. And the lamp.. Once a couple years ago I left the oven on and left the house. We'll just say that coulda ended really badly! After I stop pushing buttons on my celly, it goes black after a few seconds. I constantly have to push a button to light up the screen and see if I got a text. And even if I'm staring at it the whole time, I still have to push a button to make sure. |
:D:D:D Must all be female traits! |

Door Locks are a BIG one, like you I need to hear the confirmation honk on the car- I often get to my car and then go back to my apartment door just to check that I really locked it. A weird one but I always check the shower before I go to bed- like to make sure no one came into the house, hid in the shower, and then stayed there for hours waiting for me to go to bed before they pounced. |

If I take my socks off for any reason I just can't put them back on (even if I've only had them on a few minutes) - I can only put clean socks on. Teresa |
Compulsive behavior?...let me tell ya...space heaters away from my little girls beds!! I know I check them suckers all the time but have to keep rechecking. You would think that my 5lb and 2.5lb little one could really move a 20lb heater around the room but I just get freaked thinking of the worst possible scenario. Also, they have to be close enough to keep them warm but not far enough that they would have a chill, so I keep readjusting them. It drives my DH crazy!!!(maybe thats why I do it:ladywinks |
I keep the alcohol in my room as well as the cookies so I put a lock on my bedroom door (I have a 17 year old and a 11 year old in the house) When I go to leave I lock the bedroom door even if i know that the kids will not be home before i get back and I have to go back and check the door. If I get to bed and I don't know that the front door was locked I have to get up and go downstairs and lock it or I cant sleep I wake up in the night and call for Gatsby if he does not come up and lick my face I have to turn the light on and get out of bed and look around the room for him. (even though he could not get out of the room) |
I cannot sleep without my feet being covered up. When I was young, my parents used to scare me with the "witch under the bed" thing and I was always afraid the bad witch would tickle my feet. To this day I MUST have my feet covered. Also, my little Cooper's horn doesn't toot when I hit the lock button, but the lights flash when it is locked/unlocked. I find myself pushing the lock button and if I wasn't watching for the lights to flash I have to hit the unlock and then hit the lock button again while I'm watching. |

One of mine is, I can't use new dishes, glasses, or silverware unless it has been washed 30-50 times. I'll wash them and put them right back in the dirty dishes pile to wash again. Even then, it'll be about a month or two before I'll use them. Another is I can't drink water out of plastic cups. I can't explain it, but I just can't. Soda, juice, and aguas frescas I can drink fine, but not water. He glass can't be wet either. It seriously gives me the creeps! |
I have a few, one is when I take a shower I have to wash my hair first, leave shampoo in while I shave under my arms, rinse hair, put conditioner in and while it sits I wash my body, shave my legs and rinse conditioner out of my hair. Then before I turn off the water I have rinse my hair out one more time. I follow this routine every day. I feel if I don't something bad will happen. Same thing when I do dishes, I do them in the same order every time. Am I crazy:confused: |
No you're not. At least not about the dishes. I have to do them in a certain order too. Cups and glasses, while doing the spoons, forks and knives at the same time, then plates, and leaving pots and pans for last so I can spend as much time on them as I have to. If I do it in any other order, I feel like I'm never going to finish!!! |

This thread really makes me feel like I am in good company. For so long I thought I was all alone in my nonsensical behaviors. :p |

I do the driving back to make sure I shut the garage door. Every night I check the laundry room to make sure nothing fell by the hot water heater. I am afraid of a fire. I do it at least 2 times to make sure. |
